LUCIANO - GOD IS MY FRIEND
Luciano's music is influenced by Stevie Wonder, Frankie Paul and late reggae singer Dennis Brown. It was later on that he changed his stage name to Luciano while often being referred to as "Jah Messenjah" and also at around that time collaborating with Fattis Burell's Xterminator label where he developed his conscious roots aspect. After recording several LPs for Burell he recorded a set for Island records before starting an independent career recording. Luciano's most recent work to date is his album 'Jah Words' (released worldwide April 26 2005 on the RAS records label) which features such singles as the romantic 'Angel Heart' and the political 'Cry for Justice', the album also features his heavenly single with a distinctable thumping dancehall beat named 'Why Should I' with backup vocals by Shelene Thomas, Luciano even recorded a video for 'Why Should I' not widely known commercially but notably a dancehall classic like many. After voicing several covers for the Producer Sky High, Luciano released "Give My Love A Try," which was produced at Castro Brown's New Name Studio and was a hit in Jamaica. It was there that Luciano met Freddie McGregor the former Studio One child star who had become an International Reggae Superstar. Joining McGregor's Big Ship production company, Luciano began creating cultural, conscious reggae that reflected his religious and social concerns. Again in 1993, Luciano scored a #1 UK reggae hit with the song "Shake It Up Tonight" but Luciano says ...

Luciano Berio's Sinfonia and SWINGLE SINGERS 1 of 3
Romanian National Radio Orchestra Conductor : ASHER FISCH Program notes written by Michael Steinberg: The original version of Luciano Berio's Sinfonia, composed in 1968, was first performed on October 10 of that year by the New York Philharmonic and The Swingle Singers, under the direction of the composer. The 1969 version, expanded from four to five sections, was performed in New York for the first time on October 8, 1970 by the same forces under Leonard Bernstein. The published score carries the inscription: "Written for (and commissioned by) the New York Philharmonic and dedicated to Leonard Bernstein." The work is scored for three flutes and piccolo, four clarinets, two oboes and English horn, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone, two bassoons and contrabassoon, four horns, three trombones, tuba, percussion (timpani, glockenspiel, marimba, vibraphone, tam-tams, snare drums, bass drums, cymbals, sizzle cymbals, tambourines, wood-blocks, bongos, guiros, frusta, grelots, castanets and triangles), harp, piano, electric organ, electric harpsichord, strings (with one solo violin and violins divided into three sections) and eight singers. Luciano Berio's music displays a constant obsession with language and the many possibilities by which language can be presented in a musical context. Fragmentation into phonetic sounds, emblematic quotations, traditional vocalism and anti-academic (or pop) vocalism, musical, physical and semantic gesture: these are some of the many devices ...

He first began recording in 1992, with his debut single "Ebony & Ivory" on the Aquarius Record label and followed with his debut album 'Moving Up' for RAS records in 1993. Luciano is the seventh of nine children and was born to extremely spiritual and musical parents while growing up in Daveyton, a small district in the central parish of Manchester, Jamaica. His birthdate has been more listed as 1974 and sometimes in the month of November rather than October. Some sources say he was born in 1964.

Pope Benedict XVI sent a telegram of condolence, which was read out at the start of the service. Three Tenors singing- La donna e mobile
The Three Tenors is a name given to the Spanish singers Plácido Domingo and José Carreras and the Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti who sang in concert under this banner during the 1990s and early 2000s. The trio began their collaboration with a performance at the ancient Baths of Caracalla, in Rome, Italy, on July 7, 1990 -- the eve of the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final. Zubin Mehta conducted the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Orchestra del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto - Un di, felice, eterea
Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007) Born and died in Modena, Italy, Pavarotti was an Italian tenor who was known for his seemingly effortless high Cs during the early stage of his career. Renata Scotto (b.1934) is an Italian soprano widely admired for both her musical and dramatic gifts. Since retiring from the stage as a singer in 2002, she has turned to directing opera as well as teaching at her own opera academy in Italy and New York. Here Pavarotti and Scotto sing the duet 'Un di, felice, eterea' from a live performance of Verdi's La traviata. This was on 19 March 1965 at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. Comment, rate, but don't spam. If you don't like these singers please tell me why...we can discuss.

THE BOX PRO - Round3 & Round4
Just eight riders remain in contention for event number two on the International BodyBoard World Tour, The Box Pro, with quarter-final placings being decided today in heaving four-to-six feet (two-metre) waves.
Local Ryan Hardy (Margaret River, WA), reigning Men’s IBA World Tour champion Amaury Lavernhe (REU) and multiple Men’s IBA World Tour champion, Guilherme Tamega (BRA) were among the stand-outs on a day that saw blood lost to the reef and at least one board broken in two.
Former two-time IBA world champion Damien King (Port Macquarie, NSW, AUS) received medical attention for gashes to his face after being driven head-first into the reef just moments into his heat versus Mark McCarthy (ZAF), Dave Winchester (AUS) and Joe Clarke (AUS).
The 32 year-old was desperately chasing a win to solidify a Round 4 berth and gave it everything he had when the rogue wave appeared.
“It (the wave) came through in the first five or 10 seconds of the heat and I could see it was hitting wide, but I thought it could be a good one so I thought ‘I’ll go for it’,” explained King.
“I backdoored it and I hit my face on the bottom faster than you can blink. I just got smashed, I hit real hard. I’m just lucky I didn’t hit my teeth. I knew I needed to win that heat to stay in the comp so I just kept my focus and stayed out there. You can’t get rattled when that sort of stuff happens, you need to expect it somewhere like the Box. Unfortunately things didn’t go my way today.”
South African, Jared Houston (ZAF), found himself in a unique situation; the 21 year-old had his board split apart after an aerial attempt gone awry. Houston punched a huge air-forward off a wedging Box end-section and came down hard over the front of his board. It caved in beneath him, buckling under the pressure, and folded straight down the middle.
“I saw that section and just went for it,” he explained. “I came down so hard my arms hit under water, I was still holding onto my board so I knew straight away it had snapped. I tried to ride out of it, but there was no way that was happening.”
Houston borrowed another board from someone waiting in the channel, but the relief was short lived. It was two inches shorter than what he normally rides.
“I was kinda going nowhere with it, then the guys on the ski went and picked up my back-up board and brought that to me, but I’d never ridden that either, it had no wax on it, it was so slippery. So the whole heat I was just trying to make the most of a pretty bad situation,” said Houston.
Houston regrouped to advance into the quarter-finals, where he has now drawn fellow countryman, Mark McCarthy (ZAF), in an all South African match-up. The only time the pair have faced off at the elite level occurred at Pipeline two years ago with Houston getting the nod.
Tamega was fortunate to survive his encounter versus IBA event wildcard, Mitch Rawlins (Broadbeach, Qld, AUS). The six-time world champion was combed for most of the 25-minute encounter, requiring two excellent scores to have a hope of progressing.
Rawlins went ballistic early, putting one of the sport’s biggest names on the ropes with a near perfect 9.6 out of a possible perfect 10 for an incredible barrel followed by a huge, text-book invert air.
With the highest individual wave-score of the event to his name, Rawlins then solidified his position with a second good scoring wave of 5.8 points and looked to have the heat locked away. But Tamega scraped back into contention registering a 7.9 ride, then with nothing to lose in the final seconds, caught the only breaking wave and pulled a huge backflip to take the win.
“I was just waiting for the heat to be over,” said Tamega. “This little wave came to me and I thought, ‘Oh, I might as well catch this one’. It formed on the inside and gave me the biggest ramp ever and I thought, ‘Whoa!’ I just went for it and it worked, I didn’t think the judges would give it me though, I heard the score and it was just too good to be true.”
Hawaiian, Jeff Hubbard is looking down the barrel at a possible trifecta, the 35 year-old bodyboarding vet is coming off two consecutive wins. One at the final event of 2010 at Fronton in the Canary Islands and the first event on the 2011 tour held in his backyard at Pipe in February.
Things did not go the Hawaiian’s way the last time Hubbard competed at The Box more than eight years ago, he was eliminated early from the event in much smaller conditions.
“It’s one of those things, you just gotta pretend those other wins don’t exist and just keep going for it otherwise it creates too much pressure. So my approach is in every heat is like I’m starting from scratch,” said Hubbard.
“I’m pretty amped because there’s good waves coming, it’s going to be bigger than last time I competed here, it’s going to really help us. Plus it’s going to be more consistent, so you’ll see all the guys going for it, pushi

THE ARICA CHILEAN CHALLENGE - Trials Final & Round 1 Day 3
The final day of the Arica Chilean trials was contested at El Gringo this morning with the top 7 riders securing a birth in the main event.
The morning started with some smaller but cleaner 3-5 feet waves as an early offshore groomed the waves into perfect peaks.
The trials were used to showcase a new 4-man priority system that would see less hassling and more focus on getting the best riders on the best waves.
IBA World Tour manager Terry McKenna explains.
“ This was driven by the riders that wanted a system that would be user friendly and make sure that no waves were wasted by excess jostling in the line-up, and it worked perfectly”
First up was the semi finals of the trials and the main mission of the remaining competitors was to get the 2000 GQS points on offer as well as steer clear of 8th position, as this was the only spot that would not be going through to the main event.
Semi 1 was a heavy exchange between 4 of the most consistent competitors in the event going at it with Jones Russell (Aust) & Charly Chapelet (Reunion) proving too strong for the South American trio of Roberto Bruno (Brazil) and Emiliano Tabre (Argentina).
The second semi was a battle of the heavy hitters with the Australian duo of Mitch Rawlins and Tom Rigby sneaking past the two locals Alan Munoz (Chile) and Renato Arellano (Chile) to set up a predominately Australian final.

By this time the waves were pumping and El Gringo was serving up some perfect lefts & rights in the 1.5 – 2 mtr range providing a spectacular arena for the competitors to showcase their skills.
Mitch Rawlins looked hungry for a win and picked the best waves to claim victory and snatch the 2000 GQS points that were up for grabs.
“Finally it all came together” laughed Mitch.
“It’s been a while and it feels good but with the first round of the GSS coming up, I don’t have much time to enjoy it” said Rawlins.
The Trials final results are as follows.

With the surf still pumping and the crowd building organizers decided to run straight into the first round of the main event.
The first heat of the GSS leader-board round set a blistering pace with former World Champion Damian King (Australia) firing in the gaping tubes.
“ I lost my board when I was in front and just kept cool” said King.
“There are a lot of young guys coming through the ranks so that challenges me to keep on top of my game and keep fresh” he added.
The leader-board section of the event offers riders 6 points for a win, 4 points for second, 2 points for third and 1 point for last across the first three rounds with the Top 16 moving into the round 4 man-on-man heats.

The second heat was a see-sawing affair with all 4 riders holding first place at various stages of the heat but in the end Ben Player (Australia) showed great determination and contest savvy to come home in the dying seconds.
“ I saw that wave coming and knew it had the potential to get the score” said Player.

Pierre Luis Costes (France) wooed the crowd with a fearless approach on the shallow reef that included a deep barrel and a highflying invert to post the day’s highest combo of 16.40 out of 20.
“ I like the 4 man priority” said Pierre. “It let me focus more on high performance riding rather that positioning”
In the final heat of the day current World Champion Amaury Laverhne (Reunion) looked like he owned the break stamping his authority all over the lefts to take first place.

Luciano - Shake It Up Tonight (Reggae)
www.lucianoreggae.com 'Shake It Up Tonight' was Luciano's first UK No 1 reggae hit back in 1993. Released on Freddie McGregor's label 'Big Ship', it was after linking up with McGregor, that Luciano started moving away from singing just love songs and began producing music which reflected his conscious religious and social concerns. Luciano has received numerous awards - most notable 'Most Spiritual & Educative Singer' and Nelson Mandela's 'Most Cultural Artist'. In 2007, he was awarded the 'Order of Distinction' in Jamaica for his positive contribution to the reggae industry. The Blessed Luciano - Jah Messenger

Aretha Franklin ~ Nessun Dorma (Re-Upload From Former Account)
Twenty two minutes after she was asked to cover for her ailing friend, Luciano Pavarotti, Aretha Franklin takes the stage to perform the legendary aria "Nessun Dorma", a piece she sang previously a few days earlier (in her own register, I might add), without changing Pavarotti's key - which is no minor achievement. It begets one of the most extraordinary musical moments in awards show history. It brought the audience to a thunderous ovation. ********** Re-uploaded from my deleted wiredream account, where this vid got nearly 200K hits. I hope it does so again!
