SMOKE ON THE WATER by RED FOLEY (1944)
"Smoke on the Water" was written in 1944 by Zeke Clements and recorded shortly thereafter by Red Foley. In 1941, the same year Red made his film debut with Tex Ritter in the Western "The Pioneers", he signed a lifetime contract with Decca Records resulting in his first #1 country hit Smoke On The Water in 1944. It topped the charts for 13 consecutive weeks in 1945, he was the first major performer to record in Nashville. Smoke on the Water There will be a sad day comin For the foes of all mankind They must answer to the people And its troubling their mind Everybody who must fear them Will rejoice on that great day When the powers of dictators Shall be taken all away CHORUS: Therell be smoke on the water On the land and the sea When our Army and Navy overtakes the enemy Therell be smoke on the mountains Where the Heathen Gods stay And the sun that is risin Will go down on that day For there is a great destroyer Made of fire and flesh and steel Rollin toward the foes of freedom Theyll go down beneath its wheels Therell be nothing left but vultures To inhabit all that land When our modern ships and bombers Make a graveyard of Japan CHORUS Hirohito long with Hitler Will be ridin on a rail Mussolinill beg for mercy As a leader he has failed But therell be no time for pity When the Screamin Eagle flies That will be the end of Axis They must answer with their lives CHORUS (Instrumental Interlude) CHORUS Lyrics posted October 21, 2005 by Kyle Joseph Ummamum. 78s - Hot Rod Race - Red Foley
"Hot Rod Race" is a Western swing song about an automobile race out of San Pedro, California, between a Ford and a Mercury. Released in November 1950, it broke the ground for a series of hot rod songs recorded for the car culture of the 1950s and 60s.With its hard driving boogie woogie beat, it is sometimes named one of the first rock and roll songs. Written by George Wilson, it became a major hit for Arkie Shibley and his Mountain Dew Boys (Gilt-Edge 5021), staying on the charts for 7 weeks, peaking at #5 in 1951. Trying to repeat his success, Shibley recorded at least four follow-up songs. Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan, Tiny Hill, and Red Foley, all released versions in 1951; Hill's became a hit on the pop charts. Shibley's record may have climbed higher and outpaced any of the others, but his second verse opened up with: Now along about the middle of the night We were ripping along like white folks might. Eastern radio stations, never a fan of Western swing anyway, refused to play it.[3] Dolan changed the verse to say "plain folks"; Hill to "rich folks"; and Foley to "poor folks". The song ends with: When it flew by us, I turned the other way. The guy in Mercury had nothing to say, For it was a kid, in a hopped-up Model A.

78s - Peace In The Valley - Red Foley
"Peace in the Valley" is a 1939 song written by Thomas A. Dorsey, originally for Mahalia Jackson. The song became a hit in 1951 for Red Foley and the Sunshine Boys. It was the first Gospel recording to sell one million copies. Foley's version was a 2006 entry into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry. The list of other artists who have performed the song is lengthy, with other popular renditions by Elvis Presley (with backing by The Jordanaires), Johnny Cash from his At San Quentin live album, Loretta Lynn, Screaming Trees, as a b-side to their "Dollar Bill" single, Ronnie Milsap, and most recently Faith Hill for a concert special.

Kitty Wells & Red Foley ~Hello Number One
Clyde Julian Foley (June 17, 1910--September 19, 1968), better known as Red Foley, was an American singer, musician, and radio and TV personality who made a major contribution to the growth of country music after World War II. For more than two decades, Foley was one of the biggest stars of the genre, selling more than 25 million records. His 1951 hit, "Peace in the Valley," was the first million-selling gospel record. A Grand Ole Opry veteran until his death, Foley also hosted the first popular country music series on network television, Ozark Jubilee. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, which called him "one of the most versatile and moving performers of all time" and "a giant influence during the formative years of contemporary Country music." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kitty Wells Ellen Muriel Deason (born August 30, 1919), known professionally as Kitty Wells, is an American country music singer. Her 1952 hit recording, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," made her the first female country singer to top the US country charts, and turned her into the first female country star. Her Top 10 hits continued until the mid-1960s, inspiring a long list of female country singers who came to prominence in the 1960s. Wells's success in the 1950s and 1960s was so enormous that she still ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of the Billboard country charts, according to historian Joel Whitburn's book The Top 40 Country Hits, behind Dolly ...
