Atom Egoyan & Serj Tankian
Two days before the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, we bring together two artists of Armenian descent to discuss its lasting impact. Atom Egoyan's critically acclaimed films include Chloe, Speaking Parts, The Adjuster, Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter (nominated for two Academy Awards), and the award-winning Ararat, a meditation on the Armenian Genocide. His work has been featured in international retrospectives including at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and at the Venice Biennale. Serj Tankian is a Lebanese-born Armenian American singer, songwriter, activist, and composer. Tankian has released five albums with the rock band System of a Down, one with Arto Tuncboyacıyan, and two solo albums. In 2002 Tankian and Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello co-founded a nonprofit activist organization, Axis of Justice. In 2011 Tankian was awarded the Armenian Prime Minister's Medal for his contributions to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the advancement of music. hammer.ucla.edu

www.egs.edu Filmmaker Atom Egoyan discussing the screening of Citadel, a documentary filmed on a camcorder in Beirut, Lebanon. It traces the deeply personal return of actor Arsinee Khanjian to Lebanon after a 28-year absence. Atom Egoyan`s film Screening at MOCA
The Museum of Contemporary Art on June 24 hosted a special screening of the 2002 film 'Ararat' followed by a Q&A with director Atom Egoyan. The screening was organized in conjunction with MOCA's Arshile Gorky: A Retrospective exhibit. 'Ararat,' a film within a film, was written and directed by Egoyan and stars Arsinée Khanjian, Christopher Plummer, and Eric Bogosian. The film weaves together tales about a contemporary Armenian family, artist Arshile Gorky, and a tragic part of the history of the Armenian people--the Armenian Genocide.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

www.imdb.me/maninasry
This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Adoration - A movie by director Atom Egoyan
ADORATION is celebrated director Atom Egoyans twelfth feature film. It is woven with the common threads that appear in much of his work: the differences between appearance and reality; and the subjective nature of truth; prismatic, fragmented structures; multiple time frames and points of view; rich and complex characters; and the dynamics of family. Egoyan has long been interested in the concept of communication and the role of technology in our lives. In ADORATION, Egoyan explores intimacy and the nature of our relationship to media and technology, and its effect on the construction of personal identity. One of the original inspirations for the film came from a 1986 news story Egoyan had read about a Jordanian man who sent his pregnant Irish girlfriend on an El Al flight with a bomb in her handbag, of which she had no knowledge until security found it. The story always struck me because it was one of the first examples of how extreme a terrorist act could be and how one could turn someone close into an abstraction— not only his fiancée but also an unborn child. I came across the story again in 2006 and began to wonder about the child and the legacy of being raised knowing what your father had done. The ensemble piece follows Simon, a high school student who uses the Internet to misrepresent himself as a figure from recent history (the unborn child), and draws a group of schoolmates and survivors into a community of people mourning a tragedy that never happened. The ...
