Hanoi has a 1000 year history as a city. It has been invaded by the Chinese, French and Japanese. The French Colonial period in particular has had a noticeable influence on the aesthetics of the City. I visit a Bia Hoi Bar where I find relief from the constant rush and din. This is a video that I made using some of the pictures I shot during my trip to Vietnam (November 2010). I've been to some place in the North and then, after visiting Ha Noi, Ha Log Bay, Cat Ba island, Hai Phong, Bac Ha and Sa Pa, I went to Hoi An (in the central Vietnam) and to Ho Chi Minh city and Tay Ninh (in the South). Here you will see the pictures from the capital Ha Noi (and from some places in the surroundings), from Ha Long bay and Cat Ba island and bay and from Hai Phong. China's new missile brigade marks Hanoi as target

China has set up a new missile brigade in its southern province of Guangdong as part of a "shock and awe" strategy to deter other countries with claims to the South China Sea from challenging its dominance in the region. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the United Daily News said the new 827 Ballistic Missile Brigade is based in Guangdong's Shaoguan City. While the brigade's administrative building was still under construction at the end of March, missile launch vehicles had been posted at the Shaoguan base. Missiles installed at the base might include Dongfeng (DF)-21D anti-ship ballistic missiles and Dongfeng-16 -- a new type of ballistic missile that has a longer range than anything in China's current cross-Taiwan Strait arsenal. Judging from Shaoguan's geographic location, they said, the 827 Missile Brigade is apparently charged with the mission of intimidating Taiwan and countries bordering the South China Sea. For instance, Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, is less than 1000 km away from Shaoguan. If a conflict breaks out between China and Vietnam over their conflicting claims to the South China Sea island groups, the 827 Missile Brigade could include Hanoi as a target.

Hanoi ha cambiato molti nomi nel corso della sua storia, tra gli altri Tống Bình (宋平), Long Đỗ (龍肚; letteralmente "pancia del dragone") e Đại La. Nel 1010 l'imperatore Lý Thái Tổ, della dinastia Lý, fece costruire su questo sito la sua nuova capitale, chiamandola Thăng Long (昇龍, "dragone che si alza in volo”). In seguito a varie vicissitudini storiche, Hanoi venne chiamata anche Đông Đô, Đông Quan, Đông Kinh (東京, “Capitale dell’Est” – il nome che gli europei conosceranno come Tonchino) e Bắc Thành (北城, “Cittadella del Nord”). Nel 1802, la ristabilita Dinastia Nguyễn mosse la capitale a Hué. Nel 1831 l'imperatore Minh Mang ridenominò la città Hà Nội (河内, traducibile come “tra i fiumi”). Occupata dai francesi nel 1873, divenne la capitale dell'Indocina francese nel 1902. Nel 1940 venne occupata dall'esercito del Giappone per essere liberata nel 1945, quando Ho Chi Minh, leader del movimento indipendentista Việt Minh proclamò ufficialmente l'indipendenza della Repubblica Democratica del Vietnam, il 2 settembre del 1945. Rioccupata dai colonialisti francesi nel 1946, viene liberata definitivamente nel 1954, divenendo la capitale della Repubblica Democratica Popolare del Vietnam (Vietnam del Nord) fino alla riunificazione del 1976.
La città sorge sulla riva destra del Fiume Rosso, e dista 130 km dalla sua foce nel Golfo del Tonchino.

Max Azria (Sfax, 1 gennaio 1949) è uno stilista francese, di origini tunisine. Ha fondato il marchio di abbigliamento BCBGMAXAZRIA, ed è il principale stilista, direttore ed amministratore delegato[1] di BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, un'azienda che incorpora oltre venti case di moda.[2] Vive a Holmby Hills, Los Angeles[3], insieme alla moglie Lubov Azria, direttrice creativa di BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP. He sei bambini, includendo Joyce Azria, che è stata nominata direttore creativo di BCBGeneration nel 2009.[4]

Max Azria è nato a Sfax, in Tunisia,[5] ed è il più giovane di sei figli. Da bambino, Azria è stato educato nel sud est della Francia, prima che la sua famiglia si trasferisse a vivere a Parigi nel 1963. Dopo aver lavorato per undici anni a Parigi come disegnatore di moda femminile, Azria si è trasferito a Los Angeles nel 1981[5] dopo fonda Jess, una serie di boutique di abbigliamento femminile.
Nel 1989, Azria fonda il marchio BCBGMAXAZRIA,[1] che prende il suo nome dalla frase in lingua francese "bon chic, bon genre", traducibile come "buono stile, buon atteggiamento".[1] Nel 1996 in occasione della settimana della moda di New York viene presentato il marchio BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway.[6] Nel 1998 Azria entra a far parte del Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).[7]
Inoltre Max Azria mantiene anche due collezioni di design eponime, Max Azria Atelier e Max Azria. Lanciata nel febbraio 2004, Max Azria Atelier[1] è una collezione di abiti di alta moda creati per le celebrità e per eventi da red carpet. Sharon Stone,[8] Halle Berry,[9] Fergie[10] ed Alicia Keys[10] hanno indossato in occasioni differenti gli abiti di Max Azria Atelier. Nel febbraio 2006 invece ha debuttato il marchio Max Azria, più orientato verso il pret-a-porter[11], ed indossato da Angelina Jolie nel 2009[12][13]
Nel 1998 Azria ha rilevato la casa di moda Hervé Léger [7], segnando la prima occasione in cui uno stilista americano ha rilevato una casa di moda francese.[14] Nel 2007, il marchio Hervé Léger è stato rilanciato da Max Azria con il nome Hervé Léger by Max Azria[7], ed è stato indossato da Beyoncé Knowles,[15] Jennifer Lopez,[16] Catherine Zeta-Jones[17] e Kate Winslet[17] in varie occasioni mondane.
Nell'autunno 2008, Max Azria ha presentato i marchi BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway, Max Azria ed Hervé Léger by Max Azria in occasione della settimana della moda di New York. E' la prima volta che uno stilista americano organizza tre differenti sfilate durante un'unica settimane della moda.[18]
Nel 2008 è stato commercializzato il nuovo marchio del gruppo BCBGeneration, destinato ad un pubblico giovane.[19] A giugno 2009, Azria ha creato insieme a Miley Cyrus, per la quale aveva disegnato gli abiti del tour 2009, una collezione moda venduta da Walmart e chiamata Miley Cyrus & Max Azria.[2]
