Africa The Serengeti
The Serengeti takes you on an extraordinary journey to east Africa to view a spectacle few humans have ever witnessed: the million wildebeests, zebras and antelope as they travel over 500 miles across the Serengeti plains. The Serengeti vividly details life and death in an unforgettable film experience. Filmed entirely on location in Kenya and Tanzania, Africa. The Serengeti brings you spectacular vistas and dynamic aerials. It also features Africa's greatest predators -- lions, crocodiles and cheetahs -- in deadly pursuit of the migrating prey. "There is a place on Earth where it is still the morning of life and great herds still run free." - James Earl Jones

Lion vs. Brave Baboon Fight-West Serengeti Safari
I am sharing this because 1) this was unusual behavior (lions generally don't expend energy for such small rewards) and 2) you get suspense, drama, comedy and terror in 3 minutes. In my defense, I am ONLY rooting for the baboon because I would never want to witness another primate (including humans) being killed. Yes, I did want to see a kill but I was really hoping to see a zebra or wildebeest behind those bushes! But that's nature.

Serengeti National Park - Tanzania
The Serengeti is a region of grasslands and woodlands in Mara Region in Tanzania. It has more than 1.6 million herbivores and thousands of predators. Blue Wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and buffalos are the animals most commonly found in the region. This area is most famous for the migration that takes place every year, which is considered to be one of the seven tourist travel wonders of the world and was named by the American television show Good Morning America and newspaper USA Today as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World" [1] in 2006.

SERENGETI & NGORONGORO Tanzania
In the north of Tanzania is one of Africa's finest natural landscapes, the Serengeti. From endless grass covered savannahs to dense rain forests, the large variety of landscapes, as well as many species of wildlife, is really quite remarkable. The Massai have retained their age-old traditions and the pastures at the bottom of the Ngorongoro Crater are ideal for their herds of cattle. The 260 square kilometre Ngorongoro Crater is not only a wonder of nature but also home to an impressive number of animals. The bottom of the crater is covered with grass and several watering holes provide a perfect habitat for large herds of wild animals. In the second half of the 20th century, two British archaeologists and anthropologists made several striking discoveries in the region. In the Oldupai Canyon, they discovered a Hominid skull. This made both explorers world famous, as the almost two million year old skull was the oldest prehistoric discovery of human existence ever found. Each morning, two balloons take off from the Massai Kopjes in the centre of the National Park on a one hour journey above the Serengeti. Depending on wind and weather conditions, the balloon rises to an altitude of more than 300 metres above sea level. The pilots often navigate their balloons close to the ground and just above the treetops when most of the animals run away at the sight of the hot air balloon and the strange sound caused by its burner. Gazelles, gnus and buffalo crowd into their favorite ...

HD Movie Lions
I have several HD Stockshots from these lions. Watch selection of our clips at: www.global-dvc.org/pond5.asp
For BBC documentaries and many Hollywood productions these lions were used as an actor or stand in. Certain moves and Close ups seen in many Serengeti/ Masai- Mara documentaries. Reasonable tame lions so quite save for us to enter the cage and did some close/ups also. Fantastic experience of a life time. First time in 2005. I could use the new Sony FX1 in HDV mode. 1440x1080i. Soon we go back for another production at this great Hotel near Pretoria. Fortunately I had a small pocket tripod with me. Ideal for low angle shots. Quick set up and pull back.

Migration
The annual wildebeest migration takes place in the Masai Mara, Kenya and the Serengeti, Tanzania. It is known as the “Great Migration” and is one of the most iconic events in Africa. One of the largest obstacles the migrating animals face is the mighty Mara River.
Through a combination of telephoto video clips and wide-angle time-lapse sequences, we aim to illustrate the scale and drama of this incredible spectacle. We have never before seen a wildebeest river crossing recorded in this way... as far as we know, this could be the first time that time-lapse has been used to reveal the dynamics of a wildebeest river crossing.

Tanzania - Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region located in north-western Tanzania and extends to south-western Kenya between latitudes 1 and 3 S and longitudes 34 and 36 E. It spans some 30000 km2. The Serengeti hosts the largest and longest overland migration in the world, a semi-annual occurrence. This migration is one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. The region contains several national parks and game reserves. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language, Maa; specifically, "Serengit" meaning "Endless Plains". Approximately 70 larger mammal and some 500 avifauna species are found there. This high diversity in terms of species is a function of diverse habitats ranging from riverine forests, swamps, kopjes, grasslands and woodlands. Blue Wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and buffalos are some of the commonly found large mammals in the region. Around October, nearly 2 million herbivores travel from the northern hills toward the southern plains, crossing the Mara River, in pursuit of the rains. In April, they then return to the north through the west, once again crossing the Mara River. This phenomenon is sometimes called the Circular Migration. Over 250000 wildebeest alone will die along the journey from Tanzania to Masai Mara Reserve in upper Kenya, a total of 500 miles. Death is often caused by injury, exhaustion, or predation. The migration is chronicled in the 1994 documentary film, Africa: The Serengeti. ( source Wikipedia )
