Counterculture (also written counter-culture) is a sociological term used to describe the values and norms of behavior of a cultural group, or subculture, that run counter to those of the social mainstream of the day, the cultural equivalent of political opposition. Counterculture can also be described as a group whose behavior deviates from the societal norm. It is a neologism attributed to Theodore Roszak, author of The Making of a Counter Culture. Although distinct countercultural undercurrents have existed in many societies, here the term refers to a more significant, visible phenomenon that reaches critical mass and persists for a period of time. A countercultural movement expresses the ethos, aspirations, and dreams of a specific population during an era—a social manifestation of zeitgeist. It is important to distinguish between "counterculture," "subculture," and "fringe culture".

Countercultural milieux in 19th-century Europe included Romanticism, Bohemianism, and the Dandy. Another movement existed in a more fragmentary form in the 1950s, both in Europe and the United States, in the form of the Beat generation, followed in the 1960s by the hippies and anti-Vietnam War protesters.

Anna Torv (born 15 June 1978) is an Australian actress known for her role as FBI agent Olivia Dunham on the Fox television series Fringe.

Anna Torv was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to Susan and Hans Torv and grew up on the Hinterlands of the Gold Coast, Queensland. Anna's father Hans Torv is of Estonian descent, but was born in Stirling, Scotland. She has been estranged from her father since the age of 8. She has one sibling, a younger brother, Dylan. Her paternal aunt is writer Anna Maria Torv Murdoch Mann, who was married for 31 years to billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Torv graduated from Benowa State High School in 1996. She graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) with a degree in Performing Arts in 2001.

In 2004, Torv joined the cast of Australia's acclaimed television drama The Secret Life Of Us playing Nikki Martel.

Torv appeared in the BBC series Mistresses. She also played the voice and performed motion capture of the main character Nariko in the 2007 video game Heavenly Sword.

Kevin Mahon is a former football player and manager, most notable for his double cup success with Derry City F.C.

Mahon began his career at Athlone Town A.F.C. at the age of 16, after turning down a move to Arsenal F.C.. While he did not win anything with that club Mahon went on to win an American Soccer League II title with U.S. club New York Apollo and a League of Ireland Premier Division title with Dundalk F.C..

Mahon also played for Finn Harps F.C., Thurles Town F.C., Coleraine F.C., and Derry City F.C., before entering management with Derry City. Under his management Derry won the League of Ireland Cup in 1999, beating Athlone Town A.F.C., and won the FAI Cup in 2002. He went on to become Derry City's longest-serving manager since the club joined the League of Ireland.

Mahon resigned as Derry City boss on 20 July 2003, following a string of poor league results which saw Derry slip to second from bottom in the table and fighting against relegation.

Joshua Carter Jackson (born June 11, 1978) is a Canadian American actor. He has appeared in primetime television and in over 32 film roles. He is best known for playing Charlie Conway in The Mighty Ducks film series, Pacey Witter on Dawson's Creek and Peter Bishop in the Fringe TV series.

Jackson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the son of Fiona Jackson, a casting director, and John Carter. Jackson's father is from Texas and his mother is a native of Ballyfermot, Dublin, Ireland, having emigrated to North America in the late 1960s. He was raised Catholic. He has a sister, Aisleagh, and two half-brothers, Lyman and Jonathan Carter from his father's first marriage. Jackson grew up in California until the age of 8. Not long after his sister was born in California, his parents divorced and Jackson, his mother and sister then moved to Seattle, where he attended Einstein Middle School in Shoreline, Washington. Shortly thereafter, he moved back to Vancouver with his mother and younger sister. He attended Ideal Mini School and later switched to Kitsilano Secondary School. In an interview with The New York Times, Jackson said he was kicked out of high school once because of The Jon Stewart Show: "[The show] played, at least where I grew up, at 1:30 in the morning, so I would stay up at night to watch Jon Stewart, but then I'd be too tired—or too lazy—to go to school in the morning. So I'd just take the first couple of classes off, 'cause I wanted to be fresh when I got there." He claims that the first time was because of "attitude" problems and that he "wasn't in the school spirit".
