Harlequin (1980) Robert Powell, David Hemming, Carmen Duncan
HARLEQUIN is an intriguing supernatural thriller. My personal favourite & perhaps the best in the OZSPLOITATION genre which keeps the psychological edge on high and mainly relies on Robert Powell' playing an eerie cross between Jesus and Rasputin evil scary and seriously sexy hypnotic character. The actual story revolves deputy governor Eli Steele (Jack Ferrari) who disappears while snorkeling in the sea,(a poor excuse for a Harold Holt plot if ever there was one) rescuers are sent but alas, no trace of the governor is found. (shock) Meanwhile Senator Nick Rast (David Hemmings) is next in line for Eli's high powered job & he has an adorable 4 year old son Alex (Mark Spain one of Australias most talented children) however the poor darling has leukaemia & is no longer responding to treatment. (Some of the best child acting I have ever seen to this day apart from my own...yep I'm in the film too) One night the Rast's family home is visited by Gregory Wolfe (Robert Powell) who claims he can cure little Alex & after just a few minutes with him Alex seems so much better.(again with the Marvellous acting) In that Rasputensque simile Wolfe manages to work his way into Senator Rast's (Anyonr notice that is TSAR spelled backwards?) life & sleeps with his wife Sandra (Carmen Duncan) it becomes clear he has more on his agenda than just curing his son...bwaaa haaaa haaa!

Harlequin - Innocence (live 1980)
Probably the most well known song from this concert, and one of four songs from the newly released Love Crimes. Don't know why Superstitious Feeling and I Did it for Love weren't played, but I wish they had been.

Harlequin - Thinking of You (live 1980)
Track 4 from the 1980 concert that was broadcast from Montreal just after the release of Love Crimes. If not for the background hum of a poorly grounded amplifier, this would be an awesome concert. As it is, it's still the only live recording from their prime. Hope you enjoy it.

Harlequin - Sweet Things in Life (live 1980)
From the album Victim of a Song, this track is the only one I noticed played differently than the studio version (a change in the lyrics to indicate the subject was smoking something illegal). This concert was broadcast just after the release of Love Crimes, and is the earliest live recording of them that I know of. Sorry about the amp hum, not my fault.

Harlequin - You are the LIght (live 1980)
Next to last track from this concert. Only show I've heard from back when they were at their best. Love Drive was a brand new album, and One False Move wasn't even in the planning stages yet. I'd love to go back to when this was new (and I was 20 years old).

Harlequin - What's Your Name / guitar solo(s) / band intro (live 1980) version 1
The only live recording from their past glory that I am aware of. There is a lot of hum from a bad ground on an amplifier or something (maybe unshielded cables), but old Harlequin fans are going to like this stuff.

Harlequin - Survive (live 1980)
Third song from this live recording which was broadcast over the radio as it happened. The picture is from the current line-up, but other songs from this concert have a period photo. I've used noise filtering software to tone down the amp hum that is on every track, but it's still pretty noticeable. For fans of the band, this is much better than the lousy live footage from recent shows.

Harlequin - It's All Over Now (live 1980)
The band played this live show shortly after the release of their second album, Love Crimes. As far as I know, it's the only live recording of their early years available. To be sure, this is not something you can buy at Amazon, com or Best Buy as it was never released to the public. The quality is just so-so, but still better than trying to watch those awful cell phone recordings of the current line-up.

Erotique Fantastique Masquerade Ball
THURS JUNE 2nd Erotique Fantastique Masquerade Ball with Rape of the Vampire: Re-Vamped & Re-Mixed (feat. live score by Demdike Stare + Anworth Kirk!) Tickets & Info: http://tinyurl.com/43lr2n6
It’s a gothic erotic masquerade, featuring a live set by Geneva Jacuzzi, dark disco dance party DJ sets by the Killing Spree crew, and a live score to a special re-vamped version of Jean Rollin’s Rape of the Vampire, the very first French vampire film! One of the most underrated and misunderstood directors to emerge from the rising smoke of the 1968 Parisian social explosion, Rollin is best known for his films in the “fantastique” genre (the French tradition of blending horror and fantasy) -- and Rape of the Vampire, with its hypnagogic non-linear narrative, coupled with copious amounts of sex and violence, is a mesmerizing masterpiece of surrealist horror itching for re-interpretation! Tonight, UK haunt-ologists Demdike Stare + Anworth Kirk conduct a darkly hypnotic, beat-driven, industrial-concrete and ghost-ambient backbeat to this moody black-and-white classic -- so don your velvet cape and harlequin headgear, and step out in style! Seriously, it’s a Masquerade Ball -- so come in costume!

Harlequin - intro and Love on the Rocks (live 1980)
The only live recording I've found by Harlequin from their prime. No one seems to have posted anything from this, so here is the first track. There is a noticeable amp hum throughout the concert. I have used some noise eliminating software to tone it down, but not so much as to alter the quality of the recording (which isn't the best to start with). There is a gap with no sound near the end. I have two recording of this, and it's on both. I hope you enjoy it.

Harlequin - Shame Shame (live 1980)
Encore of this concert. I apologize again for the audible hum, but that's the way it came. Next up will be a live radio performance / interview for One False Move. I have to transfer it from vinyl to MD first, and then to CD; so, it will be a little while yet. I hope you enjoyed the concert.

Harlequin - Sayin Goodbye to the Boys (live 1980)
As I've stated on each of the songs from this concert, there was some amp hum audible throughout the concert. I have tried to tone it down. I've never found any other live material from these guys during their prime, although I do have a radio interview disc from One False Move. Perhaps I'll make the interviews available at some point, but I haven't put it on CD yet.

Harlequin - Victim of a Song (live 1980)
I found a picture of the band from the right time period to go with this concert now. This is one of my favorite songs by the band from their 1st album of the same name. The amp hum that was audible throughout the show was especially bad on this song, so I hope I didn't over do the noise filters. Let me know what you think.
