London - England Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation
World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube London Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation http://bit.ly/1acugNw London - England Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation London's vociferous mix of grandeur, history, style and culture seems to get more enticing by the year. It charms with leafy Royal parks, free world-class art galleries and frothy ale amid wood-clad pubs; it intrigues with ancient streets and grand architecture, and excites with the neon-lit West End, designer shopping and an innovative dining scene that has become one of the richest in the world. The average London street transports you back centuries with its architecture, and across continents with its population. Brimming with iconic British emblems -- the ubiquitous black cab; the Houses of Parliament's soaring limestone peaks -- London unites a colourful history and solid traditions with boundary-pushing creativity and true multiculturalism. Whether exploring one of its glorious markets or taking it easy in a soft green park, expect to see faces from all corners of the globe. Culturally, London is breathtaking, with its galleries and museums among some of the most prestigious and comprehensive on earth. From the natural wonders housed inside the ornate, terracotta façade of the Natural History Museum to the cutting-edge artists pushing boundaries inside the Tate Modern, a staggering number of London's cultural attractions are free. With all this and more, London rarely sits far from the world's attentions, but 2012 proved to be a truly exceptional year for the city. In June, the Diamond Jubilee saw thousands upon thousands of flag-waving revellers take to London's streets in celebration of the Queen's 60 years on the throne despite being deluged in rain showers. Street parties, open air concerts and heaving crowds all craved for a glimpse of a regal face, proving that the British Royal Family remained a much-loved institution. The spotlight on London shone even brighter during the 2012 London Olympics. Key landmarks provided the backdrop to thrilling sporting action, such as Horse Guards Parade playing host to beach volley ball and sprawling Greenwich Park offering the setting for equestrian events. Olympic fever truly swept through and beyond the capital to the rest of the country, capped by spectacular triumphs from Team GB. Now, the stadium which hosted iconic events -- Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park -- will host concerts while surrounding areas and venues are being transformed into a park and leisure facilities, some of which will be open to the public from summer 2013. Another attraction stealing the limelight in 2013 is the newly-opened View From The Shard. Piercing the sky at 1,016ft (310m), the tallest building in Western Europe has redefined London's skyline. Visitors can gawp at stunning city views at 244m (800ft). Meanwhile, a series of musical and festival-style events in the summer are planned to mark the Queen's Coronation. But London doesn't need grand events or attractions to show what it's all about. More than 300 languages are spoken in the city, with residents originating from every corner of the globe. London feels not only like the centre of the world -- but in many ways, it is also a world in one city. Whether in the glittering West End, gazing across to the Houses of Parliament from Waterloo Bridge, marvelling at Bank and Moorgate's glossy towers or strolling the fashionable streets of Shoreditch, there can be no doubt you're in one of the greatest cities on earth. ============================== London Videos, London , London Tourism, London Travel Guide, London Vacation, London tours, London Attractions, London Restaurants, London Shopping, London Transport, London Museums, London Nightlife .... World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube London Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation http://bit.ly/1acugNw Attractions in London, England - Tourism in London Things to see in London Passes: The London Pass allows free access to over 60 attractions (including the London Aquarium, Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and St Paul's Cathedral). The 'with transport' option also includes transport on all London buses, Tubes and trains. The card is available for one, two, three or six days ranging in price from £47 to £102 for adults; you can buy one at the airport and tourist information offices around London. The card is fairly expensive though, so only worth buying if you are planning on doing a lot of sightseeing during your stay in London, or if you are pressed for time (card holders can avoid queues at many of the attractions). Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament The striking Palace of Westminster is home to one of the city's most famous landmarks - Big Ben. Big Ben is actually the name of the huge bell, whose tolling tune is instantly recognisable. The most ancient part of the whole palace, Westminster Hall, is 900 years old. Severe fire damage led to the rest of the palace being rebuilt in neo-gothic style during the 19th century.During late July/August and mid-September/early October the Summer Opening of the Palace of Westminster takes place. For a guided tour, book in advance. Watch Parliament at work, rather than tour the palace, from the Strangers' Gallery. Opening Times: Mon-Sat 0915-1630 or 1315-1630 (depending on schedules). Admission Fees: Yes Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: Yes Address: Parliament Square, SW1, London, United Kingdom British Museum The British Museum, the centrepiece of which is Norman Foster's glass-roofed Great Court, is one of the world's finest museums. Visitors must contend with a mind-boggling six million artefacts from all corners of the globe, plucked (or plundered) by collectors. The awesome scale of the museum means it is essential to select just a few of the 94 galleries for close attention. Highlights include the Rosetta Stone, the Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo treasures and the controversial Parthenon Sculptures, known as the Elgin Marbles, taken from the Parthenon in Athens. A 90-minute 'Highlights' tours is available daily at 1030, 1300 and 1500. Opening Times: Daily 1000-1730. Admission Fees: No. Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: Great Russell Street, WC1, London, United Kingdom Buckingham Palace The London home of the Queen is hugely popular with tourists. Witness royal pageantry dating back centuries at the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place daily at 1130 from April to July and on alternate days at other times of the year. There is also the rare chance of seeing inside a royal residence (summer only). The 19 State Rooms of the palace, including the Throne Room and the Picture Gallery, are only open to the public during August and September, when the Queen moves to her Scottish residence. The Queen's Gallery is open to the public year round. Opening Times: State Rooms: Daily 0945-1830 (23 July-3 Oct). Admission Fees: Yes Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: Buckingham Palace Road, SW1, London, United Kingdom Covent Garden Twinkling market stalls and colourful street entertainers make the pretty setting of Covent Garden even more inviting. For over 300 years, it has hosted traders of all sorts of wares, perhaps most famously the fruit and vegetable market, which was centred in the Piazza. The market is still here, and today, the area is also home to many shops, bars and restaurants. Also here are the distinguished Royal Opera House -- home to the Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet -- and the popular London Transport Museum, which follows the history of the city's transport system. Admission Fees: No Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: Piazza, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdo London Eye and County Hall At a towering 135m (444ft), the London Eye is an unmissable sight. It's become a highly popular London attraction, which usually means a 'flight' requires booking in advance and often queuing as well. The experience (one revolution of the wheel, lasting approximately 30 minutes) is absolutely worth it - the unparalleled views of London reach as far away as 40km (25 miles). Sitting right next door and directly across the River Thames from the Houses of Parliament is County Hall, the former home of the Greater London Council. The enormous building is home to both the London Aquarium and the Dalí Universe. Opening Times: Daily 1000-2030 (Jan-June, and Sept-Dec); daily 1000-2230 (Jul-Aug). Acadia National Park
As the only National Park in Maine – and New England – distinction comes naturally to Acadia National Park. Comprised of more than 35,000 acres of pristine land on Mount Desert island, Isle au Haut and the Schoodic Peninsula, Acadia captures the essence of Maine’s rocky coastline, its gently rolling mountains, and its thriving forests, ponds, marshlands, fields and marshlands. Acadia also offers unmatched wildlife diversity, with countless ecosystems playing host to everything from mollusks and mammals to raptors and reptiles. For vigilant visitors, it’s impossible to visit without crossing paths with a wide variety of wildlife in its natural habitat.
But Acadia’s appeal doesn’t stop with its natural splendor. Home to Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Seal Cove and Northeast Harbor, Mount Desert Island – which contains the largest share of the Park’s acreage – offers a variety of manmade attractions. The Park’s well-known carriage paths, commissioned by John D. Rockefeller in 1915 and constructed over the course of nearly 20 years, provide more than 33 miles of easy, peaceful exploration by foot, bicycle and horseback – free from cars, crowds and other everyday distractions.
Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor add a touch of eclectic, unhurried civilization. From fine restaurants, museums and galleries to shopping boutiques and refined lodging, there are diversions to suit every traveler – and make each and every visit memorable.

Maine State Parks
700,000 acres of land have been set aside for public use in Maine. Explore historic sites preserving Maine’s legacy, including Fort Popham, Colonial Pemaquid and the Katahdin Iron Works. Maine is home to many famous state parks. Baxter State Park is the largest state park in all of New England. It was donated, in trust, by Percival P. Baxter, a former Maine state governor. Quoddy Head State Park is the most easterly point in the United States. Acadia National Park is the second most visited national park in America, second only to Yellowstone.
