Luoyang (洛阳) - Longmen Grottoes (龙门石窟)
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000, the Longmen Grottoes outside of Luoyang, Henan province, are one of the best examples of Chinese Buddhist art. Here, over 100000 statues of Buddha and his disciples are carved into the limestone caves of the Xiangshan and Longmen mountains. It's an amazing sight, and certainly worth a visit if you are traveling in China. Blog post can be found here - www.transparent.com

Wang Hong Jun Tie Dang Luoyang 2005
Wang Hong Jun is the 12th generation successor of Tie Dang (Iron Crotch) Gong Fu and has demonstrated this miraculous system to great acclaim. He represented Luoyang to demonstrate 'Iron Crotch Skill' in a performance at the Henan skill centre and was soon very famous in China as he won the first prize. The Shaolin Temple in Henan Province is roughly 2 hours away from Luoyang, and in the early 1980's, Wang Hong Jun received an invitation from the great Master Diao Chan of the Shaolin Temple to perform his Gong Fu. After observing this performance, the great Master said "Wang Hong Jun's Gong Fu is a lost Gong Fu, it has been lost to the world for over 300 years until now". In This Clip he Demostrates this skill to his Disiple (Mike Farr) Students from Wales (UK) for the first time.

China: Luoyang's Peony Festival
www.TravelsWithSheila.com There is a Peony Festival in Luoyang from April 1 to May 2 every year. We were a little late and the blooms were far and few between but the sights within the park were interesting. One group of elderly Chinese who gather every morning to sing about "having happiness in your heart, and enjoy life"...something we all should do. There was a small circus, stalls selling "stuff" and everywhere, the beautiful Chinese children having a ball. An enjoyable way to spend a morning.

"Bai ma si" buddhist ceremony, Luoyang
Budistų vienuolių apeigos, seniausiame Kinijos ... Budistų vienuolių apeigos, seniausiame Kinijos budistų vienuolyne -- „Bai ma si" (kin.白马寺), Luoyang'e (kin. „Baltojo arklio vienuolynas").2007 m., rugsėjo mėn. "White horse temple" buddhist ceremony (Bai man si) White Horse Temple (simplified Chinese: 白马寺; traditional Chinese: 白馬寺; pinyin: Báimǎ Sì; also White Horse Ministry) was the first Buddhist temple in China, established under the patronage of Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han capital Luoyang in the year 68. According to the Book of Later Han history, Emperor Ming was said to have dreamed one night in the year 64 of a golden person standing 20 metres tall and with a radiating white aureola flying from the West. The next day he told his ministers, and the minister Zhong Hu explained to him that he had probably dreamed of the Buddha from India. The emperor then sent a delegation of 18 headed by Cai Yin, Qin Jing and Wang Zun to seek out Buddhism. They returned from Afghanistan with an image of Gautama Buddha, the Sutra of Forty-two Chapters and two eminent monks. The monks names have been variously romanized as Kasyapamatanga and Dharmavanya, Moton and Chufarlan. The next year, the emperor ordered the construction of the White Horse Temple three li east of the capital Luoyang, to remember the horse that carried back the sutras. It was China's first Buddhist temple. Notably, the emperor ordered the suffix 寺(pinyin si) to be used in the temple's name, as a ...
