DAWN OF TOMORROW, 1939 New York World's Fair Part 1
Part 1 - DAWN OF TOMORROW - The 1939 New York World's Fair. This new film series covers the entire "World of Tomorrow" from 1939 to 1940 in New York City during the legendary '39 NYC World's Fair! Filmed by the production team that made Westinghouse, Dawn of Tomorrow features interviews with those who experienced the Worlds Fair firsthand in Flushing Meadows NY, near Queens and on the same site as the 1964 World's Fair. It was called the World of Tomorrow and showed what the world was going to look like 20 years after 1939. The fair helped to bring the country out of the great depression, or at least to lift the spirits of those who were there. Inspired by the great fairs of the past like the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago where George Westinghouse, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Frank Lloyd Wright, Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Ford attended, the '39 fair featured new technology like television, automated cow milking machines, giant robots like Elektro and the amazing GM Futurama. Those visiting the fair had no idea that World War 2 was about break out months after it's start, in fact WW2 would set back many of the inventions showed off in New York. Part 1 of a multi-part documentary short film series. Features rare, never before seen footage, photographs, photos and films from the fair, transferred from 16mm film. Very rare full color and black and white film reels shot by an amateur photographer at the fair during the summer. www.Inecom.com

1939 New York World's Fair Reel 1 all 3 parts Color Kodachrome 1939 Medicus Collection
more at quickfound.net "Detailed documentation of the "World of Tomorrow" in beautiful Kodachrome." Color. Silent. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. en.wikipedia.org The 1939--40 New York World's Fair, which covered the 1216 acres (4.92 km2) of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (also the location of the 1964--1965 New York World's Fair) , was the second largest American world's fair of all time, exceeded only by St. Louis's Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904. Many countries around the world participated in it, and over 44 million people attended its exhibits in two seasons. The NYWF of 1939--1940 was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of "Dawn of a New Day", and it allowed all visitors to take a look at "the world of tomorrow..." In 1935, at the height of the Great Depression, a group of New York City retired policemen decided to create an international exposition to lift the city and the country out of depression. Not long after, these men formed the New York World's Fair Corporation, whose office was placed on one of the higher floors in the Empire State Building. The NYWFC elected former chief of police Grover Whalen as the president of their committee. The committee included Winthrop Aldrich, Mortimer Buckner, Floyd Carlisle, Ashley T. Cole, John J. Dunnigan, Harvey Dow Gibson, Mayor ...

Parachute Jump Thrill Ride 1939-1940 New York World's Fair
This 67 year old color film was taken by my father (copyright) at the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair. A short clip from this movie includes the infamous Parachute Ride in the Amusement Zone at the World's Fair. Riders paid about $.40 a ticket to be hoisted up by a cable system in essentially a park bench affair, with just a few straps, up 25 stories until the chute reached the top of the steel structure. Cables released the chute, a free fall occurred unitl the chute opened in the floating descent to the base. See a few of the ascents, some bouncy landings, and just appreciate the level of 'safety' of one of the original thrill rides as compared to today's amusement parks! Yikes!

Paris in 1900 - Exposition Universelle [Rare Footage]
MUSIC BY Gwenaël Kerléo www.gwenaelkerleo.com www.myspace.com ----------------------------- The Exposition Universelle of 1900 was a world's fair held in Paris, France, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next. The style that was universally present in the Exposition was Art Nouveau. Exposition Universelle viewMore than 50 million people attended the exhibition (a world record at the time), yet it still failed to turn a profit, costing the French government 2000000 Francs. The fair included more than 76000 exhibitors and covered 1.12 square kilometres of Paris. The Exposition Universelle was where talking films and escalators were first publicized, and where Campbell's Soup was awarded a gold medal (an image of which still appears on its label). At the Exposition Rudolf Diesel exhibited his diesel engine, running on peanut oil. Brief films of excerpts from opera and ballet are apparently the first films exhibited publicly with projection of both image and recorded sound. The Exposition also featured many panoramic paintings and extensions of the panorama technique, such as the Cinéorama, Mareorama, and Trans-Siberian Railway Panorama. Alexandre III bridgeThe exhibition lasted from 14 April until 10 November 1900. A special committee, led by Gustave Eiffel, awarded a gold medal to Lavr Proskuryakov's project for the Yenisei Bridge in Krasnoyarsk. A number of Paris' most noted structures were built for the Exposition ...

Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair (Complete)
From 1964, here is "Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair" where Walt Disney talks about the history of the World's Fairs and of course a preview of the Disney attractions that are first appeared at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair where they include "It's A Small World, "The Carousel of Progress" and others. And then, Walt talks about Audio-Animatronics. All this and much more. This was featured on the "Wonderful World of Color". Portions of the episode was shot in Queens, NY in the Flushing Meadows section where all the Disney characters and guests are arrived at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. The 1964-65 New York World's Fair was a 2-year exhibit and it was closed in 1965 to become what we know today as Flushing Meadows Park. It is located in Queens, NY. Shea Stadium where it used to be since it has been which is now Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets. After the fair ended, the two big attractions moved to Disneyland and opened two years later in 1966. By 2008, they added Disney characters to the ride. So this is a classic attraction for all ages. I used to go to Disney World twice back in 1994, but I hope I'll share with you. NOTE: This is a complete video for the first time ever on YouTube, and it is 38 minutes long. Enjoy!
