US Child Labor, 1908-1920
A look at child labor in the early 20th century in the United States as represented through the photography of Lewis W. Hine. The film documents the use of child labor in industry, including the exploitation of children and the lower classes in American society. Many of the jobs were extremely dangerous and numerous children and adults were injured or killed in the attempt to advance in society. The viewer must understand the context of the situation at the time and think of the individuals from the perspective that it could be one of their ancestors, in order to fully grasp the emotion of the video.

Child Labour - Philippines
March 1996 We offer you a shocking report on child labour in the Philippines. Mari-Lou is having the best day of her life. She and two friends are screaming at the top of their voices as they descend down a water chute. A government social worker has treated the girls to a day at an amusement park to help them recover from the trauma of being locked up, beaten, unpaid and sexually abused. Recruited from their peasant village to became maids in Manila, they have been totally exploited by their employment agency. Impoverished families are forced to let their children suffer slave labour. At a gold mine, Joel makes $8 a day scrabbling in the mud for any gold ore which spills beneath the wheels of endless trucks. In Manila, 13 year old Brian Marsada is locked into a dim warehouse where he bottles bleach. When it is raided by government forces, Brian escapes. A journey home to the lush but poverty stricken island of Mindanao in the Philippines reunites him with his family. His bright western clothes contrast with his father's torn and dirty shirt. Now embarrassed by the shabby hamlet, he misses the cheap, coloured lights of Manila. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Ending child labour in the Philippines
CNN's Kyung Lah reports on child labour in sugar harvesting in the Philippines. Many child labourers are in rural areas where families live in poverty. The Philippine government is trying to fight the problem, by reducing the worst forms of child labour by 75 per cent by 2015. In Northern Mindanao, the ILO, the Sugar Industry Foundation, Busco Sugar Milling and the Coca-Cola Foundation are building schools to remove children from sugar cane fields.

Phillipines struggles to curb child labour
In the Philippines there is a renewed push to stamp out child labour where over millions of children eke out a living as workers, miners and farm hands instead of going to school. The International Labour Organisation has put that number at more than five million children are working in sometimes hazardous conditions. But the government says its new policies will be able to eliminate child labor by 2016. Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan has their story.

Ending Child Labour by 2016: the Continuing Challenge
There has been progress in the effort to eliminate the worst forms of child labour worldwide. As a result of international commitments and the ILO convention to eradicate the worst forms of child labour, tens of millions of children around the world are out of work and in school. But as the world gets closer to the deadline in 2016 for the eradication of child labour around the world, the pace of progress is slowing.

Chocolate sure does taste good. But a 16x9 investigation in Ghana uncovers a nasty truth - many cocoa beans in that country are harvested by children. Many of those kids aren't given a choice; some are even slaves. All workers, no matter the age, live in poverty. Still taste good? Catherine Pope reports.

Tim Knol - When I Am King (HD)
Like the proud parents of a new-born child, we present you with the labor of love that is the video for When I Am King by Dutch indie rocker Tim Knol. The video was painstakingly put together by hotshot superbot Sverre Fredriksen who soldered ten tons (or thereabouts) of timber to create the images, and stop motion to animate them – averaging five hours of work per second shown. The clip was produced by our hot sister, YellowSubmarine, and we took the opp to create a ‘making of’ video, which you can see on http://2pause.submarinechannel.com (our homage to the art of music vids) along with this video and many many more.

The accurately titled Beyond the Sun, Chris Isaak’s Vanguard Records debut, is a self-described labor of love. Since he fell in love with his parents’ 45s as a child, this passionate writer/artist has been obsessed with the glory days of Memphis’ Sun Studio and the visionary artists who got their starts there—including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis—all of them discovered and nurtured by Sam Phillips. Now, at long last, Isaak recaptures the brilliance of Sun Studio, and beyond, by paying tribute to the roots of Rock ‘n’ Roll with renditions of classics, plus new, original self-penned tunes.

Labor Dept Pulls Farm Child Labor Rule After Massive Outcry!
Under pressure from farming advocates in rural communities, and following a report by The Daily Caller, the Obama administration withdrew a proposed rule Thursday that would have applied child labor laws to family farms. Critics complained that the regulation would have drastically changed the extent to which children could work on farms owned by family members. The US Department of Labor cited public outcry as the reason for withdrawing the rule. "The decision to withdraw this rule — including provisions to define the 'parental exemption' — was made in response to thousands of comments expressing concerns about the effect of the proposed rules on small family-owned farms," the Department said in a press release Thursday evening. "To be clear, this regulation will not be pursued for the duration of the Obama administration." The rule would have dramatically changed what types of chores children under the age of 16 could perform on and around American farms. It would have prohibited them from working with tobacco, operating almost all types of power-driven equipment and being employed to work with raw farm materials. "Prohibited places of employment would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions," read a press release from last August. www.infowars.com by Paul Conner The Daily Caller www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv twitter.com www.facebook.com

Child Labor In The Chocolate Industry (Explained)
During our project about human rights at Flakkebjerg Efterskole, Denmark, I made this video about the issues with child labor in the chocolate industry! This whole problem is very complex, and therefore it's hard to find a simple solution. Every link in the supply chain refuses to accept responsibility, and the blame is passed on from one to the next. The chocolate manufactories claim ignorance in regards to the origins of the beans. In theory they require their suppliers to sell them cocoa beans that hasn't been produced by slaves - but they make little to no effort on checking up on this. The cocoa suppliers claim they cannot manage what happens on the farms, as they don't buy directly from the them. The plantation owners blame the first world, who demands such low prices, that they can't make a proper living if they were to pay adults to do the work. The traffickers blame the living standards in third world countries such as Mali. Some of them actually claims that they are helping children escape a life in poverty, and others claim they do not know about the slavery, which is obviously a lie. The Ivorian government itself accuses foreigners of using and selling slaves to child labor. But in reality, they close their eyes for much of this, because they know, that if they shut down all of the cocoa farms, the country would go bankrupt, as it would lose much of its export. And finally there is the consumers, who unknowingly buy the chocolate. They don't know, that it's ...
