MARCH 31st., ORGANISE, MARK IT.

There has never been a greater need nor a greater urgency for the people of Europe to come together to defend themselves against the march of capitalist greed. Capitalism has morphed, no longer is it the "bossman" up the road who employs the local people. Today it is world wide corporate fascism, unelected groups moving their wealth around and dictating to elected governments how to run their respective countries. The financial Mafia sit on the throne of this new beast, corporate fascism, and they are intent on plundering all public assets and directing all funds from the public purse straight to their personal coffers. Greece is just the start, that is the road that faces us all unless we can halt the march of this greed driven corporate fascism. Your children and your grandchildren are depending on your action now, it is their future that is being stolen. The following is the latest from March31 movement.

Dear Comrades,
we would like to update you on "M31", the European Day of Action against Capitalism, to be held on March 31st in many countries. Some of you may already know the project, or may have heard about it through different channels. This is just one further attempt to get you interested and involved.
M31 is an initiative of leftist, anticapitalist and antinational groups from Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. Groups from other countries like Belgium, Denmark and Ukraine have since joined the project. With the crisis deepening, we want to overcome the national and nationalist division of struggles.
Take a look at our international homepage: www.march31.net/

Here's our Call for Action, available in many languages:

Or follow M31 on facebook:

We think it's about time to organize a radical intervention. We're not interested in superficial social reforms of capitalism. We can see in Greece what the future of our societies will look like, if left[ist] resistance fails.
M31 is very much a work in progress. Who knows what will happen till March 31st! In Germany, we're helping to organize a rally in Frankfurt, dealing with the European Central Bank (ECB), among other issues. In Greece or Spain, interventions may be different.
If you like the project, please tell others about it. Get in contact with M31-groups in your country, and help set something up. If there's no group from your country on our list of M31-groups, send us an eMail, and we'll try to get you in contact with people who are already discussing M31 in your country. Planning an "open assembly" is a good way to get something started.

If you have any questions or proposals, please send an eMail to: m31@umsganze.org

Let's get it on!

THE ONLY ANSWER – DIRECT ACTION.

Across the continent of Europe the people are taking direct action in an attempt protect themselves, the attack on the onrdinary people comes from all sides of the corporate fascism that we live under. While the social fabric of our lives is being torn assunder by "austerity cuts", our future is being plundered by the bargain basement sale of our public assets in the biggest asset stripping exercise of modern times. As the corporate world expands its empire it will move everything and everybody out of the way and in lots of cases it is a case of bulldozing people off their land with disasterous results, as was this case in Italy.
Taken from Anarchist news dot org:

Widespread acts of resistance are taking place across Italy triggered by the near murderous actions of the police in Val Susa.
A summary of the latest events - Baita Clarea is an area in Val Susa where works for the implementation of the TAV were due to start soon. On Monday 27th February the forces of order proceeded to evict and expropriate the land in Baita Clarea in order to clear the way for the devastating high speed railway works. On the same day Luca Abba’, a resident of the Val Susa whose land was also expropriated, climbed a pylon in an attempt to block the ongoing military operation. The cops ordered Luca to come down without taking precautions for his safety, pushing him even higher and failing to cut off the electricity of the pylon. As a result, Luca was electrocuted and fell several metres below. Rescue was delayed by cordons of antiriot cops but finally Luca was taken to hospital by helicopter. He is now out of danger although his conditions remain very serious.
Barricades were set up by NO TAV people in the area, which has been declared a ‘strategic site of national interest’.
Protests and blockages are being organized all over Italy.
The faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Bologna has been occupied in solidarity with the struggle in Val Susa. Here is the communiqué of the occupiers:

Sparks Electricians Claim Victory Over Employers

Guess who's come to gatecrash dinner? Sparks in Central London last week. This evening the rank and file Sparks group of electricians is claiming victory over the construction companies who sought to tear up their current contracts, and enforce a new settlement which would have cost many 35% of their wage packet, and severely deskilled the trade. Right now, the Sparks Facebook page is filling

THE SCUM IS RISING FROM THE SEWER.

It would appear thatthe Scottish Defence League (SDL) intend to hold a “static”demonstration somewhere in the centre of Glasgow on Saturday February25. It is up to the Glasgow citizens to turn up in their hundreds andshow their disgust and hatred of this fascist off-shoot of theEnglish Defence League/BNP Nazi grouping. The ordinary people ofGlasgow should make it quite clear that there is no room on ourstreets for this bunch of racist/Nazi/fascist scum. These people havebeen responsible for intimidation and violence against any group thatshows any form of libertarian views. They have attacked stalls in thecity centre because they don't like what they say. When ever thesebrainless clones raise their empty heads above the sewer it is withthe intention of intimidation and violence, they get off on doingNazi salutes in front of a mirror, we should not allow them to createdivisions with in our class, we are all being exploited by the samecorporate greed machine, even the Nazi scum, but they are too stupidto realise that fact. They should not be let out alone.

At a time whenwe are facing an all out attack on our living standards from thecorporate fascist, these brain dead street fascists seek to findscapegoats. It can be anyone who is different, immigrants, people ofcolour, those with a different religion, all they do is createdivisions in the working class making it easier for the corporatefascists to plunder the public purse. The ordinary people have acommon cause against the corporate world that is destroying the veryfabric of our society, there is only one division, those who own andcontrol the means of production and distribution, and the ordinarypeople, those exploited of this system. We can't allow the brain deadfascists of the SDL ilk to divert us from our resolve to win a better lifefor all.

FINANCIAL COLONIALISM.

Thecorporate fascists continue with their hatchet job on the Greekpeople and at the same time having imposed an financial technocrat asboss of the Greek government, they are now intent on demolishing anysemblance of democracy that the Greek people ever had. As well asdemanding that the politicians put in writing that they will carry onwith the “austerity” measures as directed by the corporatefascists, even after new elections, they are also demanding that theyput officials in place in Greece to run the Greek fiscal policies. Itis modern colonialism, corporate financial colonialism. What is morethere is nothing that says that they can not, and will not, do thesame to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, or any other country thatthey feel they need to, to protect their billions and their power. After all they already have installed a Goldman Sachs hit man to runItaly. We, the ordinary people have to stand with the Greek people,we have to accept that this is not a national struggle, it isinternational struggle and only by international solidarity of allour people do we have a hope in hell of defeating this corporateassault on all our living conditions.

EDINBURGH.

Itis encouraging to see that there have been demonstrations ofsolidarity with the Greek people across Europe and there has alsobeen demonstrations of solidarity in the US. Are we slowly awakeningto the reality of our situation?  Just some of the support for the Greek people from around the world, may it rapidly grow.

PICKET ATOS GLASGOW.

Picket Atos
Friday 17th February 2012
4pm-5pm
Atos Medical Assessment Centre,
Corunna House,
29 Cadogan Street,
Glasgow G2 7AB.

Against the latest Atos and DWP con:

Atos and the DWP are conning people into signing on for Job Seekers Allowance when they get turned down for sickness benefit. This means they are forced into applying for jobs that loads of other people are applying for and as most people win their appeal against getting turned down for sickness benefit with the help of an advice centre it also means a lot of sick and disabled people are being harassed into applying for jobs that they are too ill to carry out. If claimants just ask for a reappraisal their money is reduced until they win their appeal, but they are not forced to job search or restart their claim for sickness benefit from scratch and they will get their sickness benefit back-dated.

We also want to let claimants know that it is fairly easy to appeal against being placed in the Work Related Activity Group on Employment Support Allowance (the new name for sickness benefit). In this situation you get sickness benefit, but they try to harass sick and disabled claimants off ESA by forcing them to attend regular interviews over a number of months.

We will be giving advice leaflets to sick and disabled claimants outside Atos, but please share this information with anyone you know on sickness benefit:

Good morning, I'm your new assessor.

GLOBAL SOLIDARITY IS ESSENTIAL.

We shouldnever forget that our struggle is global, it has to be, those who areexploiting the ordinary people are organised on a global scale. It isno longer the boss who lives up the hill, it is the boss who works inmarble halls somewhere thousands of miles from your workplace. Onlywhen we link up and organise on a global scale can we hope to win adecent life for all our people.

SOLIDARITY.

The human resources manager at Nestlé's Kabirwala dairy factory has been ordered to appear before the Punjab High Court for repeatedly showing contempt for court orders to reinstate the unfairly terminated President of the Nestlé Kabirwala Workers Action Committee, Ashfaq Butt. The HR manager's contempt citation is one in a long series of violations committed by Nestlé over the course of more than 2 years as part of management's brutal response to the contract workers' struggle for their rights.

Nestlé has not only repeatedly violated court orders, Pakistan law and international standards and Conventions in its ruthless drive against the contract workers and the union which is supporting them. The company has falsely implicated Butt in four fabricated police cases, and he is only free on bail. Nestlé continues to pressure workers into withdrawing their legal claims for reinstatement, has created over 100 permanent positions for workers who do not support the Kabirwala workers' struggle for their rights, and is promoting a rival group of contract workers with an eye to provoking clashes in order to fabricate still more criminal cases.

Click here to send a message to Nestlé, telling them to Stop Nespressure and respect trade union rights in Pakistan!

GREECE BURNS AS THE BANKERS DEMAND THEIR POUND OF FLESH.

           Today in Greece tens ofthousands, possible hundreds of thousands of its people have taken tothe streets, In Athens it is estimated that more than 50,000 peoplecrowded the streets around Syntagma Square where running battles withthe police continued well after dark. Several buildings were on fireas darkness engulfed the city. At the time of writing tear gas andMolotov cocktails are criss-crossing the streets. The Euro-Bank andthe first floor of the State's Accounts Office are ablaze. What I find moresignificant about this demonstration is that as there have beendemonstrations across the country and the islands, there has alsobeen many occupations by demonstrators the list of building is quiteimpressive;

Protesters and strikershave occupied the following buildings and have transformed them intoheadquarters for the evening rally:
Athens Law School
Ministry of Health in Athens
Cinema-Theatre Olympion in Thessaloniki
Building of the Regional government of WesternGreece in Patras
Building of the Regional Government of Ionianislands in Corfu
Building of the Regional Government of Crete inRethymnon
Building of the Regional Government of Thessaly inLarisa
Rethymno City Hall
Holargos City Hall
Regional Union of Imathia in Veroia.

“In order to save the banks from bankruptcy, they’ve thrown us into poverty and unemployment. They sold off our country and all that belongs to us. Switch off your TV, take to the streets, for victory!”
So while the expensive suits, without consultingthe people, sit in the parliament building trying to do a deal withthe devil, heaping more misery on the heads of the Greek people, thepeople have been on the streets telling them that deal or no dealthey will not accept any more deprivation to protect the wealth ofthe bankers.
We should all be out demonstrating in solidarity with the Greek people, what is happening to them is no less than the sacrifice of a people on the alter of bankers greed. Greece is being turned into a third world country and there is no guarantee that it will not come over here. Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Romania, and Hungary are all teetering on the brink, and when the chips are down the bankers will have no qualms about doing to the rest of Europe, what they are now doing to Greece.
It was also interesting watching the BBC sixo'clock news, and thinking of a previous post, true to form, the main item and the longest spot went to the death ofan American singer Whitney Houston, with Greece and what is happening there a verybrief second spot.
Since writing this I have learnt that there are several banks on fire across Athens. How far will the bankers push the rest of the people in Europe??

CHAPLIN IS ALIVE AND WELL!!

Probably a speech from a movie that has more relevance today than when it was written. I can't see a modern big time movie maker allowing such a powerful piece onto the mainstream movie circuit. Charlie wrote the speech himself and it took him many hours of re-writing until he was satisfied that it said what he intended. I love the fact that the film in which Chaplin made the speech was made about 70/80 years ago but has been married to images of today. An excellent piece of work.

Greek Hospital Occupied By Workers

As Greek political leaders - including banker turned unelected Prime Minister Lucas Papademos - hold talks over another punishing round of attacks on the working class, the workforce of one hospital has taken matters into their own hands, and declared that "we occupy the public hospital and put it under our direct and absolute control". The Athens summit is aimed at putting forward another
