We visit this charming city which has more parkland than any other European capital. Stockholm is Sweden's largest city with 800000 inhabitants. We check out the old town with its restaurants and nightlife. And we meet Staffan Valdemar Holm, director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre who shows us around the Östermalms Saluhall (a gigantic food concourse). And we visit the Absolut Ice Bar, the planet's first bar made of ice.

Eva Dahlbeck in Ingmar Bergman's "Smiles of a Summer Night"
the great Eva Dahlbeck (March 8, 1920-February 8, 2008), as the actress Desiree Armfeldt, has a visit with her mother (played by Naima Wifstrand) trading ripostes in an almost Wildean manner. Eva Dahlbeck attended the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramatens elevskola) in 1941-44, then had many triumphs on stage and screen. She retired from acting years ago to write. Naima Wifstrand grew up very poor, but the shop owner who employed the young girl pushed her to follow her dreams. She eventually had quite a career on the stage in operetta and plays , both in Sweden and London. Bertolt Brecht wrote Mother Courage for her. Original Music by Erik Nordgren Sommarnattens leende (1955). Written by Ingmar Bergman

Tram Trip in Stockholm - Norrmalmstorg to Djurgården
This weekend I've visited Stockholm. The Vasa Museum situated at Djurgården, was well worth a visit and we took the opportunity to go there by tram. The grand building with golden decorations that you can see us passing by is The Royal Dramatic Theatre, is Sweden's national stage for "spoken drama", founded in 1788. The theatre has been at its present location in the Art Nouveau building at Nybroplan, Stockholm since 1908. The theatre was built by the architect Fredrik Lilljekvist. Famous artists like Carl Milles and Carl Larsson were involved in making the decorations, and some of the interior decorations were made by Prince Eugen. We were heading for Djurgården, an island in central Stockholm. Djurgården is home to historical buildings and monuments, museums, galleries, the amusement park Gröna Lund, the open air museum Skansen, the small residential area Djurgårdsstaden, yacht harbours, and extensive stretches of forest and meadows. It is one of the Stockholmers' favorite recreation areas and tourist destination alike, attracting over 10 million visitors per year, of which some 5 million come to visit the museums and amusement park.

MGM history of Greta Garbo ignores her European career
"The MGM history of Garbo pretty much ignores her European career." said Scott Reisfield, great-nephew of Greta Garbo. "It was her decision to present her as an actress that they had discovered and created, that they really didn't put much into their biography about the European life of the woman that she was from Europe. But Garbo came to the United States as a well trained European actress. She had grown up in Stockholm and earned a scholarship to the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. And her class was small - it was eight people basically. She was a part on an interesting group. Her class included a famous reader's director Alf Sjöberg, who was a life time friend, who was very well known as a teacher of acting to other actors and actresses and two actors who had decades of careers on stage and in film and in television in Sweden. So her class was a very interesting group by itself and accomplished a lot she was perhaps the most famous member of it."
