Manuel Carrasco

Manuel Carrasco Galloso (born January 15, 1981) is a Spanish pop singer from Isla Cristina, Spain. He rose to fame during his participation in the second edition of the Spanish reality TV program, "Operación Triunfo," where he finished second. He has gone on to record four studio albums, including his debut album, "Quiereme," which sold more than 200,000 records.

Early life[link]

Manuel Carrasco was born on January 15, 1981 in Isla Cristina, a seaside town in Huelva, Spain. Son of Jose Carrasco and Maria Galloso, he is the fourth of five siblings. From a very young age, he worked as a painter with his brothers, while he rehearsed and performed with a carnival group from his town. He joined the group when he was 13 and led it at age 16.

Operación Triunfo[link]

At 21, he tried out for the second edition of the Spanish interactive reality TV show, Operación Triunfo (Spain's version of American Idol or Fame Academy) where he finished second. The winner of that edition of OT was Ainhoa Cantalapiedra.

Recording career[link]

His first album, “Quiéreme,” was released a month after the show's end in 2003. The album was produced by Miguel A. "Capi" Arenas and included four songs written by Carrasco himself. His first album sold more than 200,000 copies. The "Quiereme" concert tour performed in 39 cities throughout Spain.

While recording his second album, Carrasco was offered the chance to participate in the Latin American music festival, “II Festival Mundial de Canción,” in Puerto Rico. After competing against 22 singers from countries around the world, Carrasco finished first with his self-composed song titled, “Dibujar Tu Olvido.”

In October 2004, he released his second album, "Manuel Carrasco." It was produced by Jordi Armengol, Jordi Cristau and Carrasco himself. All of the 13 songs (lyrics and music) were composed by Carrasco. He sold more than 100,000 albums and performed in 80 cities in the tour for his second album, including Ceuta, Baleares and the Canary Islands. Throughout the tour, Carrasco was accompanied on stage by renowned musicians, including Jordi Armengol (electric guitar and artistic direction), Jordi Cristau (keyboards), Jordi Portaz (bass), Eduardo Cortés (Spanish guitar), Carlos Martín (percussion) and David Simó (drums).

After spending more than a year recording in studios in the U.S. (NYC) and Spain (Girona), Manuel Carrasco released his third album, "Tercera Parada," on September 5, 2006, with 13 self-composed songs plus an added bonus track. His first single off of the album was titled "Y Ahora."

Carrasco's self-composed song, "El Beso de la Vida," was the theme song for the Venezuelan soap opera, "Ser Bonita No Basta."

In February 2005, Manuel Carrasco won the "Premio Dial" prize and went on to win the "Premio Musical 2005" for best new artist. He most recently received the "Premio Cadena Dial 2006" prize on February 28, 2007.

On September 16, 2008, Manuel Carrasco released his fourth studio album, "Inercia." It was recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and produced by Cachorro Lopez. To promote the album, Carrasco will be performing in theatres and auditoriums throughout Spain from January to March, 2009. The official "Inercia" concert tour was set to begin in April, 2009. "Inercia" entered the Spanish charts("Lista 40 Principales") in its first week at number 34. As of November 29, 2008, the first single off of the CD, "Sigueme," was at number 27 on the Spanish charts.

Ed Motta (born Rio de Janeiro, 17 August 1971), is a Brazilian MPB, rock, soul music, funk and jazz musician. He is nephew of late Brazilian singer Tim Maia.

His musical career started as vocalist of the hard rock band Kabbalah.^[1] though his first album was with the band Conexao Japeri in 1988. In 1990, Motta departed to begin his solo career, recording his debut Um Contrato Com Deus, where he played almost all the instruments by himself. Since then he has released several solo albums. In 1997 he supplied to the soundtrack to the film, Pequeno Dicionário Amoroso (The Book of Love).

In 1999, he translated Phil Collins's songs for the Disney film Tarzan into Portuguese (Brazilian version).

His album Aystelum was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards of 2006 in the Latin jazz category.

Motta has worked with Roy Ayers, 4 Hero, Seu Jorge, Incognito, Bo Diddley and Ryuichi Sakamoto amongst others.^[1]

His work covers a variety of genres utilising influences from jazz to popular Brazilian music, rock to Hollywood film soundtracks, funk, classical music, bossa nova and reggae.

A noted record collector, Motta has over 30,000 records.^[2]

Betis / Celta[link]

Born in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Andalusia, Pinto, a product of Real Betis' youth system, moved up to the first team and made his La Liga debut for the club during the 1997–98 campaign (one match as a second-half substitute against Racing de Santander).

Unable to dislodge Toni Prats at Betis, Pinto switched to Celta de Vigo a year later. He went on to win the Ricardo Zamora Trophy for the 2005–06 season, after allowing just 29 goals in 37 matches, a goals per match ratio of 0.78. He was also eventually awarded the captain's armband, appearing in 125 games in the first division and 56 in the second, as well as competing in the UEFA Champions League (in 2003–04, although backing up Pablo Cavallero in the domestic league, he would appear in five group stage matches, as Celta proggressed to the round-of-16 game) and in the UEFA Cup.

Barcelona[link]

Pinto signed on loan for FC Barcelona on 18 January 2008. He arrived as cover for the injured Albert Jorquera after the latter damaged knee ligaments during the festive break. He made his debut on 26 April, in a match against Deportivo de La Coruña, which Barcelona lost 2–0. His second match also ended in defeat, as Barcelona lost 3–2 (despite being 2–0 up) at home to RCD Mallorca.

On 30 May 2008, Barcelona signed Pinto on a permanent deal, for two years and €500,000.^[1] During his first full season, he was first-choice in the Copa del Rey, which Barcelona won, including the final against Athletic Bilbao.

On 22 October 2010, UEFA opened a disciplinary case, charging Pinto with "improper conduct" following his actions in a Champions League group stage match against F.C. Copenhagen, two days earlier. Allegedly, he whistled to fool opponent player César Santin - who was running through on goal in the 26th minute - into thinking he was offside, leading him to stop, believing that the referee, Stéphane Lannoy, had blown his whistle. The referee allowed the play to continue and did not show Pinto a yellow card for the alleged deception.

Following the game, Copenhagen strongly distanced itself from Pinto's conduct.^[2] The incident was captured on video, showing the goalkeeper apparently whistling and then gloating over the incident.^[3] After the investigation was concluded, he was suspended for two games.^[4]

On 20 February 2011, Pinto made his first league appearance for Barcelona in more than two years (due to a knee injury to Víctor Valdés), playing in a 2–1 home win against Athletic Bilbao and performing well, notably saving a Fernando Llorente header.^[5] Again, he started in the domestic cup campaign, including the final against Real Madrid, a 0–1 extra-time loss;^[6] the following week, against the same team, in the Champions League semifinals' first leg, he was sent off by referee Wolfgang Stark after an half-time altercation involving himself (he was on the bench), Álvaro Arbeloa and Real Madrid match delegate Chendo, in a 2–0 away win.^[7]

In 2011–12, Pinto was once again the starting goalkeeper in the Spanish Cup campaign, with Barcelona again reaching the final.^[8] His first league appearance only came on 29 April 2012, in a 7–0 away routing of Rayo Vallecano.^[9]

Manuel Ortiz Partida (born May 22, 1971 in Tijuana, Baja California) is a professional wrestler who is currently wrestling the independent circuit in Mexico, particularly in the Tijuana area. He is better known by his stage name Halloween but is also known in the United States as Ciclope, a character he portrayed in World Championship Wrestling.

Professional wrestling career[link]

Manuel Ortiz Partida, debut in the pros in 1990, spent his time in the Independent Circuit. He wrestled as "Halloween" for most of his career.^[1] In 1996, Ortiz joined WCW where he took the name "Ciclope."^[3] His biggest moment in wrestling was part of the feud between Chris Jericho and Dean Malenko. Malenko, who had been inactive for a few months prior, dressed up as Ciclope to win a Cruiserweight battle royale to determine the number one contendership to Chris Jericho's Cruiserweight Title. Jericho had been refusing to grant Malenko contendership, making the disguise necessary.^[3]

After his time there was over, he lost the Ciclope mask to Antifaz del Norte early in 1999.^[3] He quickly reverted back to his Halloween character but lost his mask again on December 24, 1999 in a match against Super Parka.^[4] He has wrestled in many United States promotions over the years including for USA Pro Wrestling, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and Luchamania. In 2002 he along with La Familia de Tijuana (a group consisting of himself, Damián 666, Nicho el Millonario, Rey Misterio, Sr. and their valet Lady Victoria. although Rey did not come for the tour) came to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in Mexico City. The trio won the National Trios title but Nicho had a falling out with management and La Familia soon left entirely.^[5] They continued to work for independent promoters until CMLL called them back in 2005 to wrestle against Negro Casas, Heavy Metal and Felino on a show celebrating Negro's 25 years of wrestling. Perro Aguayo, Jr. recruited him and Damián for his Los Perros del Mal group.^[6] However, Halloween suffered a leg injury and his role was minimalized. After Universo 2000 used the illegal martinete on Damián 666, Halloween challenged Univeso to a hair vs. hair match on the December 2 show. After losing the match and his hair, Halloween underwent knee surgery that put him out of action for several months after which he was released from CMLL. In 2009 Halloween joined Aguayo's Perros del Mal Producciones, where he reunited with Damián 666.^[7] In June 2010, Halloween became a major part of a storyline, where Los Perros del Mal invaded Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).^[8] On June 18, 2011, at TripleManía XIX, Halloween, Damián 666 and X-Fly defeated Los Psycho Circus in a tournament final to become the first ever AAA World Trios Champions.^[9] On July 31 at Verano de Escándalo, Los Perros del Mal faced Los Psycho Circus in a steel cage match, where the last person left in the cage would lose either his hair or mask. The match ended with Psycho Clown escaping the cage, leaving X-Fly inside and forcing him to have his hair shaved off.^[10] On October 9 at Héroes Inmortales, Los Perros del Mal and Los Psycho Circus ended their year long rivalry, when Halloween, Damián 666 and Nicho el Millonario were defeated in a Masks vs. Hairs steel cage match and were all shaved bald.^[11] After a five month break from the rivalry, Los Perros del Mal lost the AAA World Trios Championship to Los Psycho Circus on March 11, 2012.^[12] The following day, Halloween, Damián 666 and X-Fly announced that they had quit Los Perros del Mal.^[13]

On March 13, 2012, Halloween, Bestia 666, Damián 666, Super Nova and X-Fly announced that they were forming La Familia de Tijuana, a group of independent wrestlers, much like Los Perros del Mal, with the exception that they were not looking to form their own promotion.^[14] On March 29, International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) was officially announced as La Familia de Tijuana's new home promotion.^[15] Afterwards, Halloween was the only member of La Familia de Tijuana, who kept appearing on AAA events. After initially teasing dissension with El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween reunited with Los Perros del Mal on April 1.^[16] On April 19, Halloween officially severed his ties with the rest of La Familia de Tijuana and returned to Los Perros del Mal.^[17]
