Billy Lee Riley

Billy Lee Riley (October 5, 1933 – August 2, 2009) was an American rockabilly musician, singer, record producer and songwriter. His most memorable recordings included "Rock with Me Baby" and "Red Hot".

Biography

Born in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the son of a sharecropper, Riley learned to play guitar from black farm workers. After four years in the Army, Riley first recorded in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1955 before being lured to Sun Studios by Sam Phillips. He recorded "Trouble Bound" for Jack Clement and Slim Wallace. Sam Phillips obtained the rights and released "Trouble Bound" b/w "Rock With Me Baby" on September 1, 1956 (Sun 245). His first hit was "Flyin' Saucers Rock and Roll" b/w "I Want You Baby", released February 23, 1957 (Sun 260), with backing piano by Jerry Lee Lewis, after which he recorded "Red Hot" b/w "Pearly Lee", released September 30, 1957 (Sun 277).

"Red Hot" was showing a lot of promise as a big hit record, but Sam Phillips pulled the promotion and switched it to "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis. Riley felt that his own chances of chart success were compromised when Phillips diverted resources to Lewis' career. He had other Sun recordings and they, likewise, did not have a lot of sales as his promotion had stopped. Like other artists such as Sonny Burgess, Hayden Thompson, Ray Harris and Warren Smith, chart success largely eluded him.

Double Dragon (series)

Double Dragon (ダブルドラゴン, Daburu Doragon) is a beat 'em up video game series initially developed by Technōs Japan. The series stars twin martial arts, Billy and Jimmy Lee, as they fight against various adversaries and rivals. Due to the popularity of the game series, an animated series and live-action film adaptation have also been produced.

Titles

The original Double Dragon by Technōs was first released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1987. A Nintendo Entertainment System version also produced by Technōs was released the following year, followed by a Game Boy version in 1990. Various licensed versions of the games were also produced by other developers for various gaming platforms such as the Master System, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Genesis, and the Lynx. Versions of Double Dragon for home computers were also released as well. A Game Gear game titled Double Dragon also exists, but it is not another port of the original game. It is based on Streets of Rage instead, especially the main character, Billy Lee, who strongly resembles Axel Stone, the protagonist of Streets of Rage series.

Lee Riley

Leon Francis Riley, Jr. (born August 24, 1932, Omaha, Nebraska), best known as Lee Riley, was an American college and Professional Football defensive back. He played collegiately at the University of Detroit Mercy, in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the New York Giants, and in the American Football League for the New York Titans.

Lee Riley was raised in Schenectady, New York where he attended St. Aloysius Academy (high school). He later attended St. Bonaventure University before transferring to the University of Detroit Mercy, where he played collegiate football. His father, Leon Riley, Sr., played professional baseball and briefly played in Major League Baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies during World War II before relocating to Rome, New York to assume role as player/manager of a minor league team in 1940s to early 1950s. Lee played college football at the University of Detroit Mercy. He was the older brother of Pat Riley, currently president of the Miami Heat and former National Basketball Association player, coach and broadcaster.
