The Sound of Silence (Original Version from 1964)
Lyrics: Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sound of silence" This is the original version from 1964 from the album "Wednesday Morning, 3 AM." Just Simon's guitar and the vocals. The famous version was released in 1966. After "Wednesday Morning, 3 AM" flopped, they split up. Without either their knowledge, electric guitars and drums were added and that version of The Sound of Silence became very ...

Part 2 - www.youtube.com In 1964, Arthur C. Clarke makes some scarily accurate predictions about the future we now know, even to the latest breakthroughs of today and things to come. Most likely from the episode "The Knowledge Explosion" from the very first series, broadcast on 21st Sept 1964 - thanks to whoever found the info.

The Beatles - Live Washington Coliseum 1964 (DC, United States Remastered HD 1080p ORIGINAL)
Once again I uploaded the full concert of this first. Please tell me if the video's out of sync. It looked out of sync to me when I played it back but tell me if it is out of sync so I can fix it and upload a better version. The February 11th, 1964 concert at the Washington Coliseum, located at 3rd and M Streets NE, occurred during a cold and snowy night. It was the Beatles' first live American performance after their televised appearance on the CBS Ed Sullivan Show. They had arrived in DC earlier that day by train from New York. Before their show that evening, they also appeared at a brief press conference. At show time, there was a sold-out, over-capacity crowd of 8000 fans, by one count. When the Beatles came on, the place erupted with screaming and incessant flash bulbs. The Beatles played for nearly an hour. Because of the set up in the Coliseum, the Beatles were essentially performing on a boxing ring-type stage, and had to move their equipment around on stage a few times in order to give everyone in the audience a chance to see them. Ringo was seen moving his drum set around on stage between sets. Shadows - Apache 1964
Shadows - Apache 1964 Released 1960 The Shadows are an English instrumental and vocal rock and roll group active from the 1950s to the 2000s "Apache" is an instrumental written by Jerry Lordan. It has been recorded by many artists, but the first released version was recorded by British group The Shadows in June 1960 and released the following month. The song topped the UK singles chart for five weeks. In March 2005, Q magazine placed "Apache" at number 96 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. In North America, The Shadows' original version is unknown, and the song is identified with Jørgen Ingmann, a jazz guitarist from Denmark. In 1961, Ingmann produced a cover version that, billed to "Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar," made number two on the US pop chart, and number one on Canada's CHUM Chart.

The Beatles on Ready Steady Go! (1964)
Post-America, pre-Hard Day's Night, The Fabs return triumphant. Ready Steady Go! (still in its pre-live performance days) was arguably the most important TV show in British pop history - certainly the best. Archived, owned and shamefully unreleased by the parsimonious Dave Clark (yes, that Dave Clark!).

"A Kiss From Tokyo" Theatrical trailer
Official selection for best advertising at Annecy Festival 2010!!!
"A Kiss From Tokyo", Theatrical Trailer (1964) - Yuki 7 dashes around the world in hot pursuit of the tantalizingly tricky Diamond Eye, who is stealing parts and plans and leaving behind a path of murdered scientists in her quest to build a missile inside her volcanic lair.
I co-directed it with and for Kevin Dart.
This animation is a part of a promotional event about the release of Kevin's new book, "Seductive Espionage, the world of Yuki 7" which was released in summer 2009.
Kevin produced the graphics and I gave them life in After Effects.
I tried to catch what was typical about the vintage look of the movies from this period. Lighting, grain, old school Special Effects (car chase in a studio with background projected film, miniature sets), editing, old fashion transitions, Music, etc...
Cyrille Marchesseau created a great piece of music inspired by Laurie Johnson (The Avengers) and John Barry (James bond).

Jonny Quest Opening Titles
In 1964, Jonny Quest aired to rave reviews as the first, adult action/adventure cartoon in prime time. It had cool jazz music by Hoyt Curtin and terrific, high contrast pen and ink design work by Doug Wildey. As an animator and long time JQ junkie, I had always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures but, due to high production costs, the show only lasted one season; not long enough to spawn any kind of serious toys or other merchandising tie-ins. So, almost 50 years later, I made my own. Here is my Valentine to one of the coolest, if not THE coolest, cartoons ever to spin up the imagination of a 53 year old man now going on six. Enjoy!
NEWS!!!!! Check out my KickStarter project for a complete JQ episode!

Gigliola Cinquetti - Non Ho L'Età - Eurovision Song Contest Winner 1964 (original performance)
This is the complete radio broadcast of the actual performance in Copenhagen with added video and stills from the reprise to enhance it. The original video recordings were lost or destroyed so I used the short reprise video (more than once) to give a better feel for the original performance than the radio broadcast can give. I have also corrected the short section where lipsync on the original reprise clip (as used by Eurovision) is out. I will add more video when I can. I am doing this enhancement and reconstruction work for historical reasons, to give a unique and better insight into what it actually looked and sounded like as Gigliola sang, all those years ago. Then only 16 years old, Gigliola had what is still the highest ever percentage of "1st place" scores in the contest... 8 out of 15 possible, or 53.3%. Points scored were 'only' 49 but changes to the scoring system mean that points scores are not directly comparable from year to year. Just listen to the thunderous applause she received at the end! It seems that the broadcaster's video of the contest was destroyed, either deliberately because it was not thought to be worth keeping, or accidentally in a fire at the DR (Denmark) Studios in the 1970's. No other broadcaster kept a recording of the 1964 show and the longest video clip of the winning song is of the reprise at the end, and is only about one minute long. I have extended this to match the complete sound recording by re-using parts of the video where ...

GLORIA JONES- "TAINTED LOVE" (1964)
New GLORIA JONES video channels!: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com ABOUT THIS VIDEO: The undercurrent of change is challenge. In the 50's, the Beats, the Ban The Bomb movement, and Rock'n'Roll challenged the status quo of America as limiting and oppressive. The early 60's continued this with the advent of young idealist JFK, the folk music boom, and most importantly the ongoing Civll Rights struggle. History's biggest generation was poised on the brink of the future. They were discovering that their fathers said one thing and did another. The struggle between their optimism and the system's hypocrisy is still raging today... About Gloria Jones: She was an American soul singer who peaked with this steller tune in '64. It never quite made the mainstream, but was big abroad. She eventually, like Jimi and PP Arnold and so many others, found better support and fame in England. In the early 70's she met Marc Bolan of T.Rex. They were steadfast partners until his untimely death in 1977. Their son was responsible for the recent restoration of the T.Rex documentary, "Born To Boogie", shot by Ringo Starr. This song of course finally received its fame in a medley with the Supremes' "Where did Our Love Go" which became a huge hit for English new wave duo Soft Cell in 1982. It's also been remade by Coil, Inspiral Carpets, Marilyn Manson, The Pussycat Dolls, and sampled by Rhianna for "SOS (Rescue Me)".
