Wolves v Leicester City, FA Cup 5th Round, 18th February 1995
After their thrilling defeat of Premier League Sheffield Wednesday in the previous round of the FA Cup, Wolves were drawn against another team from the top division in Leicester City. A season high attendance of 28,544 were at Molineux to see Graham Taylor's Division One Wolves temporarily put aside their promotion challenge for the match against struggling Leicester. The Foxes were managed by Mark McGhee who, in controversial circumstances, left Leicester with his assistant Colin Lee (another future Wolves manager) to manage Wolves some ten months later. Included in the Leicester team at Molineux was Iwan Roberts who would also leave Leicester for Wolves, this time in the summer of 1996, for what proved to be an unhappy spell at the club.
Wolves were particularly potent in attack during the 1994-5 season. Although Steve Bull was absent through illness and therefore unavailable for the match against Leicester, Wolves were able to field Don Goodman and David Kelly who, at the end of the season, was leading scorer at the club with 22 league and cup goals ahead of Bull's 19. Their goals helped ensure that Wolves would conclude the campaign as the highest scorers in Division One. Unfortunately, as has often proved to be the case, Wolves were profligate in defence and conceded 61 goals - the highest amongst the top half teams in the league.
