The final incarnation of the league was managed by Hockey Hall of Fame member Al Leader, and grew out of combining teams from the Southern California Hockey League and the Northwest International Hockey League. The PCHL was founded as an amateur loop, partly because the National Hockey League recognized Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) founder Lester Patrick as the territorial rights holder for professional hockey in Vancouver, Portland and Seattle. In 1948, however, the ten team league voted to turn pro, and was recognized as such by the NHL. In 1951, having dwindled to a six team league, the PCHL merged with the Western Canada Senior Hockey League, adding three new franchises on the Canadian prairies. One year later, the league became the Western Hockey League. The PCHL championship trophy was the President's Cup.

Pacific Grand Prix - Rental Kart League Race 4 Final - Rain
10/17/09 The fourth race of Pacific GP's Rental Kart race series using the Short South clockwise configuration. This was my first race in the league and in the wet but managed to get myself into the final round. Rain poured down the entire day and at times the course looked as though it may flood. Luckily, the drains did their job and we were able to run essentially trouble free (minus one minor thunderstorm). Started 4th in the Final but lost a position at the start. I began to make my way through the field but a red flag was thrown. I thought that I should have restarted back in 3rd since I slowed down for the red flag, but was given 5th. I don't know what the reason was for the flag but I had hoped that we would have a complete restart of the race since it was so early. It didn't happen so I had to make what I could of the situation. I lost a position on the restart and had to scrap through the field again. Made it all the way up to 2nd place but my ambition outdid my talent as I spun myself back into 5th. Overall a fun day with lots of great racing and a great series put on by Pacific GP.

Buffaloes 8, Hawks 5 (Pacific League opener) Softbank second baseman Yuichi Honda made a wild throw home allowing Orix to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth inning and go on to claim an opening-day win at Yahoo Dome. Honda made a great catch on a Hirotoshi Kitagawa grounder that appeared headed into right field with no outs and the bases loaded, but his throw from his knees allowed two runs to score. Daisuke Kato (1-0) picked up the win after two innings of scoreless relief. Yoshiaki Fujioka (0-1) took the loss in the Hawks' first opening-day loss in six years. Softbank ace Kazumi Saito, last year's Sawamura Award winner, gave up four runs and eight hits in 6-1/3 innings. Hitoshi Tamura went 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs for Sadaharu Oh's team. Pacific League
The or is one of Japan's two major professional baseball leagues, the other being the Central League.
It was founded as the Taiheiyo Baseball Union in 1949 with seven teams, the name changing to its current form in 1980. Designated hitters are used in Pacific League teams' home games.

A franchise was granted to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles to fill the void caused by the merger.
Also since 2004, a three-team Playoff system was introduced in the Pacific League (Pacific League Championship Series). The teams with the 2nd- and 3rd-best records play in the 3-game first stage, with the winner advancing to the 5-game final against the top team. The winner becomes the representative of the Pacific League to the Japan Series. Since the Pacific League won every Japan Series after introducing this system, an identical system was introduced to the Central League in 2007, and the post-season intra-league games were renamed "Climax Series" in both leagues. Player statistics and drafting order based on team records are not affected by these postseason games.
