Baby seal gets lost, ends up in Japanese harbor
An earless seal was found on the beach of Sagami Bay in Japan. The local Enoshima Aquarium says the seal may be a baby ribbon seal or ringed seal from the Sea of Okhotsk that got lost and ended up in Japanese waters, where seals of its kind are rarely seen. It was first spotted on June 17 and was captured by the local aquarium yesterday. The aquarium is sheltering the baby seal because Typhoon Talim is in the area and because the seal is getting weak.

Baikal seal-Pusa sibirica-Байкальская нерпа
The Baikal seal, Lake Baikal seal, or Nerpa (Pusa sibirica, obsolete: Phoca sibirica), is a species of earless seal endemic to Lake Baikal in Siberia. Like the Caspian seal, they are related to the Arctic ringed seal. The Baikal Seal is the smallest of the true seals and is the only exclusively freshwater pinniped species.[2] It remains a scientific mystery how the seals originally came to Lake Baikal, hundreds of kilometers from any ocean. Some scientists speculate the seals arrived at Lake Baikal when a sea-passage linked the lake with the Arctic Ocean (see also West Siberian Glacial Lake and West Siberian Plain). The total population is estimated to be over 60000 animals, and hunting of the seals, once widespread, is now restricted. Many hunters drown every year hunting the Baikal seal

Excluding Eskimos who harvest seals purely for survival reasons, it's hard to believe these pups get hunted down and brutally clobbered to death by the thousands every year for commercial purposes (fur).

Super cute baby seal
The pictures were taken in Russia by a Russian photographer : Anatoly Starkhov Earless seals, also called true seals, or phocids, are the most diverse and widespread pinnipeds. They lack external ears, have more streamlined snouts, and are generally more aquatically adapted than otariids. They swim with efficient, undulating whole-body movements using their more-developed rear flippers. The swimming efficiency and an array of other physiological adaptations make them better built for deep and long diving and long distance migration. These mammals are, however, very clumsy on land, moving by wriggling their front flippers and abdominal muscles. The two back flippers form a tail-like structure which does not aid walking on land. True seals generally communicate by slapping the water and grunting rather than vocalizing.

Antarctica living: The Leopard Seal
Antarctica's second largest seal and one of the top predators is none other than the Leopard seal!!
This sneaky, curious, earless seal knows how to work the water and can live up to 30 years. Although solitary, Leopard seals group up to mate and when they are looking for that special someone, these seals vocalize their feelings with acoustic calls..aw how sweet :)
In this short video clip, the powerful Leopard seal is devouring its favorite prey, the chubby, meaty Penguin! In Antarctica, where most Leopard seals are found, these ferocious hunters like to snack on all types of Penguins..they don't discriminate!
By grabbing a penguins feet, the Leopard seal can secure the animal in its mouth and beat its body against the water's surface until the poor penguin is dead. In order to dig into its catch, the Leopard seal flails the penguin from side to side until its torn to bits! Ouch!
Leopard seals are fascinating, and slightly intimidating, creatures who have earned their spot at the top of the Antarctic food chain. However, there is a fine line between their curious and predatory nature, so be cautious if you decide to hop in for a swim with a friendly looking Leopard!
Luckily our founder and videographer Ollie can tame any Leopard seal! :)
