I work at a zoo in Sydney and these two live in our nocturnal section. This was taken after I finished work and the lights were on in the Noc House so the animals could have their "daytime" sleep. A Rufous Bettong (Aepyprymus rufescens) is a large type of kangaroo-rat that lives along the eastern part of Australia, from Queensland to Victoria and are of similar size to an average rabbit. At night they feed on grasses, herbs, seeds, flowers, roots, tubers, fungi and occasionally insects and they can use their tail to carry nesting material. Bettongs are marsupials and the Joey is suckling from a teat inside the mothers pouch. It's much too big to fit in there now, but it hasn't been weaned yet.
