To find out more about Premiership Rugby visit: www.premiershiprugby.com Premiership Rugby on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter twitter.com Saracens debutant Chris Ashton stole the show with a villain to hero two-try display as his new side kicked off their Aviva Premiership campaign in style by beating London Irish 40-3 in the London Double Header at Twickenham. Ashton - who joined from Northampton in the summer - was in his new fans' bad books in the first half when he was sin-binned for a late tackle on Steve Shingler. However that transgression was quickly forgotten after the break as he crossed for two debut scores in a Sarries jersey and produced a moment of brilliance to set up a Brad Barritt for another. The England wing's heroics were the catalyst for a ruthless display by last year's beaten Aviva Premiership semi-finalists which featured 17 points from Charlie Hodgson and a bonus-point sealing score from Nils Mordt. Having retired from international duty after the tour to South Africa fly-half Hodgson was as impressive as ever with the boot as he took his tally of Aviva Premiership points over the 2000 mark - cementing his position as the league's all-time top scorer. The Exiles' only points on a tough afternoon at Twickenham came from the boot of Tom Homer in the first half ...

Saracens 26-19 Bath Rugby - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 13 | 08-01-12
Farrell sees Saracens close gap at the top Saracens moved closer to Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders Harlequins with a 26-19 win over Bath that kept the champions second in the table. Owen Farrell kicked 16 points but missed another 12 in a hard-fought victory to mark the 2000th Aviva Premiership Rugby game since Bath and Newcastle played the first on August 23rd, 1997. And it was clearly a big day for the likes of Charlie Hodgson, Farrell, David Strettle and Brad Barritt of Saracens, all the subject of England selection speculation in recent weeks. Equally, Bath duo Matt Banahan and Dave Attwood will have had Six Nations selection in mind on the back of last week's impressive 30-3 victory over London Irish. But it was All Black fly-half and World Cup winner Stephen Donald who struck first in the fifth minute, finishing off a series of attacks by Bath sparked twice by scrum-half Michael Claassens and aided by Nick Abendanon. Donald gathered a loose ball and darted between the posts then added the conversion. Saracens had an opportunity to get on the board in the ninth minute when French referee Pascal Gauzere penalised Bath for collapsing a scrum. But Farrell's penalty rebounded off the left-hand upright and was cleared. Saracens lacked their usual sharpness during the opening exchanges whereas Bath threatened with ball in hand and forced their hosts to display their renowned defensive qualities a number of times during the opening 15 minutes. Saracens lost prop Rhys Gill ...

Leicester Tigers 25-50 Saracens - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 4 | 24-09-11
Six-try Saracens silence Welford Road Charlie Hodgson starred as Saracens crushed under-strength Leicester Tigers 50-25 at Welford Road for a third consecutive win in the defence of their Aviva Premiership Rugby title. Share Hodgson scored a try, three penalties and three conversions, while back-row forward Ernst Joubert claimed two tries as Saracens made light of their own problems with injuries and World Cup absences. Saracens underlined their dominance with a three-try burst early in the first half and had too much power and experience for the hard-working Tigers in what was a one-sided re-match of last season's final. The result leaves Leicester, who were without 16 first-team squad players, with just one win from their opening four matches, while Saracens' third consecutive win came despite having eight of their top players away on World Cup duty. Saracens began the match in ominous fashion, with Hodgson kicking three early penalties to one by Twelvetrees as the visitors opened up a 9-3 lead. Premiership Rugby's all-time top scorer then grabbed a nicely worked try, which he converted to make it 16-3. At that point, Leicester's under-strength side were acquitting themselves well but struggling to cross the advantage line, relying heavily on some smart clearing kicks by young fly-half George Ford to relieve the pressure. Twelvetrees did notch his second penalty just before the half-hour mark, but a sudden rash of missed tackles cost his side dear moments later, as ...

Saracens 40 v 22 Exeter Chiefs | Official Highlights | 05/05/12
Saracens gave a convincing second-half performance to run out comfortable 40-22 winners over Exeter at Vicarage Road. The home side trailed 10-9 at the interval but two tries early in the second half gave the hosts the impetus they needed. The bonus-point victory was not enough to secure Saracens a home semi-final in the Aviva Premiership Rugby play-offs because of Leicester's home win over Bath, and they now face a difficult trip to the Tigers next weekend for a place in the final. Exeter, who had already secured their place in next season's Heineken Cup prior to today, were first on the scoreboard when Gareth Steenson gave them a third-minute lead with a 35-metre penalty. The opening exchanges were littered with errors with only an excellent run from James Short enlivening the proceedings. The Saracens wing collected a poor kick from Kevin Barrett to race past Phil Dollman but the move petered out as a result of a wild pass. The hosts had their first chance for points but Owen Farrell was wide with a 45m attempt but minutes later the outside half was successful with a similar kick to bring the scores level after 12 minutes. When Short carelessly knocked on in his own 22, the Chiefs had an excellent opportunity to score the first try but Sireli Naqelevuki was knocked into touch two metres short. However, Saracens again knocked on at the ensuing lineout and from the resulting scrum, Tom Johnson forced his way over under the posts for a try which Steenson converted ...

To find out more about Premiership Rugby visit: www.premiershiprugby.com Premiership Rugby on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter twitter.com Charlie Hodgson went from villain to hero as he recovered from a shaky start to score all of Saracens' points as they downed London Welsh 28-23. Despite undoubtedly being the star of the show Hodgson wouldn't have liked the way he started in the spotlight as his loose pass gifted Phil MacKenzie a first Aviva Premiership try. But the Saracens fly-half crossed himself shortly after - ending Saracens' longest-ever Aviva Premiership try drought - and added 23 points with the boot for the win. Gavin Henson, on his London Welsh debut, kept the hosts in with a shout by keeping their score ticking over with some fine kicking of his own. And although he played a crucial role in a late score for Tom Arscott, there was no spoiling Hodgson's day as he surpassed his previous best tally for a Premiership game when he scored 27 points for Sale against Leeds a decade ago. London Welsh started the game on the back foot and after just four minutes saw captain Jonathan Mills sent to the sin-bin after taking the Saracens lifter out at a line-out. But despite being a man down and under some intense pressure from their visitors they took the lead on eight minutes, Canadian international MacKenzie ...

To find out more about Premiership Rugby visit: www.premiershiprugby.com Premiership Rugby on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter twitter.com Replacement Charlie Hodgson rescued a share of the points for Saracens as they fought back to claim a draw at Wembley - but it might have been so much more for the former England fly-half. Hodgson joined the Aviva Premiership fray early in the second half after Owen Farrell was withdrawn having missed four of his five kicks at goal. Sarries were trailing 9-3 when Hodgson arrived after current Red Rose No.10 Toby Flood slotted three first-half penalties. The former Sale man quickly restored parity with two penalties however the joy over those successful kicks was tempered by an off-target drop goal with just four minutes left on the clock that could have won it. You would have thought Leicester were the side playing at home for the way they stormed out of the blocks, Flood registering points twice in the first six minutes with the boot as Saracens struggled to get out of their own half. Tigers were dealt a blow when skipper Geordan Murphy was forced to withdraw after 15 minutes, but Farrell was unable to take advantage - firing wide with two kicks in quick succession. Flood extended the lead to nine with another penalty on the half-hour mark after Mouritz Botha was offside ...

To find out more about Premiership Rugby visit: www.premiershiprugby.com Premiership Rugby on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter twitter.com Sireli Naqelevuki's second-half try proved enough for the Exeter Chiefs to send Saracens crashing to their first Aviva Premiership defeat of the season 14-12 at a wet and windy Sandy Park. The 31-year-old, playing at centre, made the most of Chris Ashton's sin-binning for reckless charging moments before to score the winning try for Exeter in the 54th minute. Three penalties from Ignacio Mieres were also vital for the Chiefs as four from England fly-half Owen Farrell ensured Saracens at least left with a bonus point. Farrell had the chance to win it following Chris Whitehead's yellow card soon after Naqelevuki's try but he sent the resulting penalty wide as Saracens lost for the first time. Exeter almost took the lead in the ninth minute when scrum-half Haydn Thomas charged down opposite number Neil de Kock's kick from a line out. But Saracens were equal to charges from Carl Rimmer, James Phillips before hooker Whitehead knocked on with the line at his mercy. It took until quarter-of-an-hour in for the deadlock to be broken and when it was there was nine points in six minutes with Farrell registering the first three. To find out more about Premiership Rugby visit: www.premiershiprugby.com Premiership Rugby on Facebook www.facebook.com Follow us on Twitter twitter.com Former Sale Sharks fly-half Charlie Hodgson ruined his old club's first day at their new multi-million pound stadium with an imperious display as Saracens dispatched the home side 23-16 in the Aviva Premiership. The 31-year-old who moved south last season after ten years with Sale scored 18 points at the Salford City Stadium while England winger Chris Ashton also chipped in with his third try in his first two games with the club. Danny Cipriani was impressive with the boot for his new side as he scored 11 points and despite the defeat, the Sharks looked massively improved from their 43-6 humbling by Exeter last time out - although it is now just one win in nine against Saracens for Sale Cipriani scored his first points on his return to England to put Sale into an early 3-0 lead but Hodgson equalled the scores ten minutes later. Saracens made some excellent breaks into the Sale half and forced another penalty which the sturdy Hodgson coolly dispatched. The first try-line action saw Brad Barritt knock on when going over the whitewash for a seemingly nailed on try around the half-hour mark. Saracens 19 v 24 Harlequins Official Highlights 31-03-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
George Lowe scored one try and saved two others as Harlequins produced an heroic defensive performance to beat Saracens 24-19 in front of a world record crowd and extend their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table. Lowe is on Stuart Lancaster's list of potential England stars of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and the 22-year-old Harlequins centre proved why on the biggest stage club rugby has ever seen, with a crowd at Wembley of 83761. After Jordan Turner-Hall's try had put Harlequins ahead, Lowe produced a top class finish to score his side's second of the afternoon and Danny Care added their third after the break. Saracens then threw the kitchen sink at Harlequins but Lowe kept the Aviva Premiership Rugby champions out with brilliant try-saving tackles on Michael Tagicakibau and Chris Wyles in the space of three minutes. Harlequins were under siege and had three men sin-binned - Joe Marler, Care and Nick Easter - as they weathered wave after wave of Saracens attacks. Richard Wigglesworth finally stole over when Marler and Care were both off the field and Owen Farrell added the conversion to his four first-half penalties. That was enough to secure Saracens the losing bonus point and move them back up to second place - but Harlequins held out for the victory to open a six-point lead at the top. This attendance beat the previous world record club attendance of 82208, which was set in the 2009 Heineken Cup quarter-final between Leinster and Munster at Croke Park ...
