Éva Marton (born June 18, 1943) is a Hungarian dramatic soprano, particularly known for her operatic portrayals of Puccini's Turandot and Tosca, and Wagnerian roles.
Marton was born in Budapest, where she studied voice at the Franz Liszt Academy. She made her professional debut as Kate Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at Hungary's Margaret Island summer festival. At the Hungarian State Opera, she made her debut as Queen of Shemaka in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel in 1968.
In 1972, she was invited by Christoph von Dohnányi to make her debut as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro at the Frankfurt Opera. That same year, she sang Matilde in Rossini's William Tell in Florence, conducted by Riccardo Muti. She also returned to Budapest to sing Odabella in Verdi's Attila. In 1973, Marton made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in Puccini's Tosca. In 1977, she sang at the Hamburg State Opera, in the role of the Empress in Richard Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten, and made her San Francisco Opera debut in the title role of Verdi's Aida. In 1978, Marton made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Leonora in Verdi's Il trovatore. She debuted at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1979 as Maddalena in Giordano's Andrea Chénier.
"In questa reggia" ("In this palace") is an aria from Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot set to a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni. The text is based on Friedrich Schiller's adaptation of the play Turandot by Carlo Gozzi. The aria takes place in Scene Two of the Second Act, and is sung mostly by the Princess Turandot (soprano), but with a reply from Calaf (tenor), which is a key point of the opera.
In the aria, Turandot explains that she conceived the three riddles as a test for any prince who might want to marry her. She explains that in the same palace, countless generations ago (thousands of years ago), a reigning Princess Lo-u-Ling was conquered by the King of the Tartars, raped and murdered. In particular, she dwells upon the Princess' final crying out and her moment of death at the hands of a man. Based on the memory and the concept of that crying out having been carried down through the many generations to Turandot herself, she resolves to avenge that death by imposing it on all men who fail in the attempt to marry her. She warns the prince that if he fails to answer any one of the three riddles, he will die.
Congress Center (formerly the Orbanco Building and Security Pacific Plaza) is an office building completed in 1980 in Portland, Oregon. It is currently the ninth tallest building in the city. The building's current name dates to January 2002.
Construction began in 1978 and was completed in 1980. It was named the Orbanco Building, for its largest tenant, Orbanco Inc., which at the time of groundbreaking was set to lease around 30 percent of the space. That company's two largest subsidiaries, Oregon Bank (established in 1887) and Northwest Acceptance Corporation, were set to be headquartered in the building. Oregon Bank moved to the new building from another downtown location in March 1980. The building earned Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2012 for its sustainability.
The firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed what is now Congress Center, with reflective dark glass that contrasts with the mostly white or lighter colored architecture common in Portland's architectural history. However, the highly reflective surface of Congress Center's glass curtain walls reflect all the nearby buildings. Most notable are 1000 Broadway, the Portland Building and Multnomah County Courthouse.
"Vissi d'arte" is a soprano aria from act 2 of the opera Tosca by Giacomo Puccini. It is sung by Floria Tosca as she thinks of her fate, how the life of her beloved, Mario Cavaradossi, is at the mercy of Baron Scarpia and why God has seemingly abandoned her. The vocal range is E♭4 to B♭5.

Born in Budapest, Eva Marton showed great potential and ambition even as a young girl. The question was whether she would become a star of the volleyball court or the opera stage. So what finally drew her to music rather than sport? After all, she was a member of Hungary’s national volleyball team. Eva Marton’s own explanation is convincing: “As a sportswoman I could only have performed for a few years. But with a bit of luck as a singer I hoped my career would last a bit longer.” Her decision paid off. After making her debut in the city of her birth, she enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame in a career that took her to Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Vienna. For a while it seemed she would build her repertoire around the testing high soprano roles of Richard Strauss: Chrysothemis and Empress, H...

Marton Éva (Budapest, 1943. június 18.) magyar opera-énekesnő, drámai szoprán. Zeneakadémiai tanulmányai után 1968-ban szerződtette a Magyar Állami Operaház. Itt szinte azonnal főszerepekben mutatkozott be; Rimszkij-Korszakov Az aranykakas, Händel Rodelinda, Puccini Tosca és Manon Lescaut című operáiban. A kritika és a közönség rögtön felfigyelt szép színű, nagy vivőerejű hangjára. 1972-ben Christoph von Dohnányi meghívására a Frankfurti Operához szerződött, itt kezdődött diadalmas nemzetközi pályafutása. Még abban az évben fellépett a Firenzei Fesztiválon Rossini Tell Vilmos című dalművében, majd 1973-ban Bécsben és 1974-ben Münchenben mutatkozott be. Ezután sorra érkeztek a meghívások a világ nagy zenei központjaiból. 1976-ban a New Yorki Metropolitan Operában debütált Wagner A nürnbe...
