SUNSET (1988) " THE FIRST ACADEMY AWARDS"
Sunset is a 1988 film released by TriStar Pictures. Written and directed by Blake Edwards, the movie stars Bruce Willis as legendary western actor Tom Mix and James Garner as legendary lawman Wyatt Earp. The story is based on Rod Amateau's novel Sunset, which was loosely based on fact as Earp actually did serve as technical adviser for some early silent westerns. Although Willis received top billing in the film, Garner actually has much more screen time during the movie. This was the second film in which Garner played Wyatt Earp, the first being in John Sturges's Hour of the Gun, released in 1967 Set in Hollywood of the late 1920s during the waning days of the industry's transition to sound film, producer and studio head Alfie Alperin wants to produce a great Western movie about Wyatt Earp. Tom Mix is cast as the great United States Marshal and the real Earp is on set as a technical adviser. But before Earp and Mix can start their movie adventure they are caught in a real case of murder, prostitution and corruption. Together they search for the missing son of Earp's former girlfriend Christina. But now she is the wife of studio boss Alperin played by Malcom McDowell and he isn't amused by Earp's investigations. Soon Earp unveils the true sadistic character of Alfie Alperin and after the death of Christina matters become personal

In defiance, he steals a cordless 'phone. Later that night, Benny cavorts dangerously on the parapet of a motorway footbridge, in theatrical protest at the tabloid press. Der berühmte Westernstar Tom Mix soll für den Filmproduzenten Alfie Alperin, der früher auch ein bekannter Slapstick-Komiker war, den legendären Marshal Wyatt Earp darstellen. Zu diesem Zweck wird dieser eigens für den Film als Berater engagiert. Mix und Earp verstehen sich auf Anhieb gut, und die ersten Aufnahmen der berühmt gewordenen Schießerei am OK Corral werden gedreht. Earp wird von Christina, Ehefrau von Alperin und eine frühere Freundin Earps, gebeten, ihrem Sohn Michael, einem notorischen Trinker, zu helfen, weil dieser angeblich eine Animierdame in einem Nachtclub verprügelt haben soll. Der Marshal und Mix besuchen den Club und treffen dort auf Alperins Schwester Victoria, die das Etablissement zusammen mit Dutch Kieffer, einer bekannten Unterweltgröße besucht. Wyatt und Tom finden im Gästehaus die Besitzerin Candice Gérard ermordet und Michael betrunken daneben vor. Um Michael nicht den Behörden ausliefern zu müssen, flüchten Earp und Mix mit dem Jungen, bevor die Polizei eintrifft und bringen ihn bei Nancy, Mix' Freundin, unter. Als Wyatt abends in sein Haus kommt, wartet Cheryl, die Barkeeperin des Clubs und angebliche Geliebte von Candice Gérard auf ihn, da sie verzweifelt ist und Angst hat. Am nächsten Tag werden Earp und Mix im Büro von Marvin Dibner, dem Sicherheitschef des Studios, vom korrupten Chef des örtlichen Morddezernats Captain Blackworth befragt, der die beiden am Vorabend vom Tatort hat flüchten sehen. This was filmed between 29th April and 10th May 2011 in the Arctic, on
the archipelago Lofoten in Norway.
My favorite natural phenomenon is one I do not even know the name of, even after talking to meteorologists and astrophysicists I am none the wiser.What I am talking about I have decided to call The Arctic Light and it is a natural phenomenon occurring 2-4 weeks before you can see the Midnight Sun.
The Sunset and Sunrise are connected in one magnificent show of color and light lasting from 8 to 12 hours. The sun is barely going below the horizon before coming up again. This is the most colorful light that I know, and the main reason I have been going up there for the last 4 years, at the exact
same time of year, to photograph. Based on previous experience, I knew this was going to be a very
difficult trip. Having lost a couple of cameras and some other equipment up there before, it was crucial to bring an extra set of everything. I also
made sure I had plenty of time in case something went wrong.
If you can imagine roping down mountain cliffs, or jumping around on slippery rocks covered in seaweed with 2 tripods, a rail, a controller,
camera, lenses, filters and rigging for 4-5 hour long sequences at a time, and then
having to calculate the rise and fall of the tides in order to capture the essence - it all proved bit of a challenge.
And almost as if planned, the trip would turn out to become very
difficult indeed. I had numerous setbacks including: airline lost my
luggage, struggling to swim ashore after falling into the Arctic sea: twice, breaking lenses, filters, tripod, computer, losing the whole dolly rig and controller into the sea, and even falling off a rather tall rock and ending
up in the hospital. As much as I wanted to give up, the best way Out is
always “Through”. I am glad I stuck it through though because there were some amazing sunrises waiting. At 1:06 you see a single scene from day to night to day which is from 9pm to 7am. Think about that for a minute.. 10 hours with light like that.
I asked the very talented Marika Takeuchi to specifically compose and
perform a song for this movie, and what she came up with is absolutely remarkable. Thank you very much Marika!

Midnight Sun: A natural phenomenon occurring in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day.
This short time lapse film was shot during the Icelandic Midnight Sun in June of 2011.
For 17 days I travelled solo around the entire island shooting almost 24 hours, sleeping in the car, and eating whenever I had the time. During my days shooting this film I shot 38,000 images, travelled some 2900 miles, and saw some of the most amazing, beautiful, and indescribable landscapes on the planet. Iceland is absolutely one of the most beautiful and unusual places you could ever imagine. Especially during the Midnight Sun when the quality of light hitting the landscape is very unusual, and very spectacular.
Iceland is a landscape photographers paradise and playground, and should be number 1 on every photographers must visit list. Iceland during the Midnight Sun is in sort of a permanent state of sunset. The sun never full sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night, as can be seen in the opening shot and at the :51 second mark in the video.
During the Arctic summer, sunset was at midnight and sunrise was at 3am. The Arctic summer sun provided 24 hours a day of light, with as much as 6 hours daily of "Golden light". Once the sun had set it wouldn't even get dark enough for the stars to come out, and they don't start to reappear until August.
My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple... You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.
