AECOM Technology Corporation (NYSE: ACM; English pronunciation: /eɪ.iːˈkɒm/, US dict: ā·ē·kŏm') is a professional technical and management support services firm. Ranked in terms of revenue from design projects, the company was the number one design firm for 2010 and 2011 by Engineering News-Record ^{[1][not in citation given]} and ranked number one by Architectural Record for 2008.^[2] It provides services in the areas of transportation, planning, environmental, energy, water and government. With approximately 45,000 employees in 2012,^[3] AECOM is listed at #353 on the Fortune 500 list.^[4]

The name AECOM is an acronym for Architecture, Engineering, Consulting, Operations and Maintenance.^[5]

AECOM was launched as an independent company in 1990, though its history can be traced back to the early 20th century and the inception of the Ashland Oil & Refining Company in Lexington, Kentucky. Through a series of acquisitions and technological developments prior to the buyout, Ashland grew to include chemical, petrochemical, highway construction and construction materials firms within its realm, laying the groundwork for the creation of Ashland Technology in 1985. One of Ashland's acquisitions included Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall (DMJM), a transportation-related engineering firm, in 1984. Richard Newman was president of DMJM at the time of the acquisition and was later named president of Ashland Technology. When Ashland chose to return to its core petroleum refining business in the late 1980s, Newman recommended an employee buyback proposal, resulting in the spin-off of Ashland Technology and the creation of AECOM in 1990.

After scuttling a first attempt in 2002, AECOM went public during May 2007 with an initial public offering on the NYSE, netting $470 million.[4]

On July 28, 2008, AECOM completed its purchase of Earth Tech Inc., a consulting and engineering firm, from Tyco International for $510 million.[5][6]

In September 2008, AECOM and Citation Technologies launched a new international EHS Audit Protocol Platform and regulatory research tool - “IAPC Interactive.” [7]

AECOM’s first president and CEO was Richard Newman, who came to Ashland through its acquisition of DMJM. Newman served as president of Ashland Technology and was instrumental in the creation of AECOM through an employee buyback when Ashland chose to return to its core petroleum business.

Newman turned over AECOM's management to its current chairman and CEO, John M. Dionisio, in October 2005 and remains the company chairman, emeritus. Dionisio came to AECOM through Frederic R. Harris, Inc. and served as AECOM's chief operating officer prior to becoming president and CEO.

In 2007, AECOM added Norman Mineta, the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation under President George W. Bush and Secretary of U.S. Department of Commerce under President Bill Clinton, to its board of directors. Mineta served on the board until 2011.

Steven Gordon "Steve" Rodgers (born 23 June 1951) is a former Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2001 to 2004, representing the seat of Burdekin.

Rodgers was born in Lismore, New South Wales, and qualified as a boilermaker. He underwent national service from April 1972 to January 1973. In 1997 he was certified as a carpet cleaning technician by the Australian Carpet Cleaning Institute. Rodgers held the posts of President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Burdekin ALP branch before his election to the seat in a surprise win in 2001, defeating former One Nation member Jeff Knuth, running for the City Country Alliance. He was defeated by National Party candidate Rosemary Menkens in 2004; an attempt to regain Burdekin in 2006 was unsuccessful.^[1]
