The Middle Of America Compilation – V/A (1984)

I kind of figured everyone and their Aunt Yahootie would have posted this one, but its presence appears to be scarcely felt on the web.  Why is that?  Someone have a problem with the middle of America?  It isn’t so bad, although Shitcago was always hit or miss when it came to Punk rock, leading me to take numerous passes on this one until I stumbled across a sealed copy for a paltry sum a few months back.  So what have we here?  Naked Raygun (to whom I’ve only recently warmed up), Rights Of The Accused (never a fan), Big Black (never a fan), Effigies (great band, but the track on this isn’t), Articles of Faith (meh), leaving us with Nadsat Rebel who I am not familiar with but are OK and Savage Beliefs and Out of Order, who are the only bands on here who stirred my curiosity and, not surprisingly, were the only bands on this platter I was stoked to hear again.  Never really figured out what the deal was with Out Of Order.  They had some good songs and some not-so-good songs and seemed to come from more of a skinhead background, but didn’t look it.  They had a decent LP with lame cover art that I believe served to drive away a lot of kids who probably would have dug them.  Savage Beliefs had a great EP that I liked and maybe some other stuff, but these tracks are the only other thing I own from them.  Not your typical HC rama-lama-ding-dong with those guys, but it worked.  For the most part, this is a pretty solid comp and shows all the bands at their best—I’m surprised it isn’t more sought after.

Scarlet – “S/T” LP (1983)

So with the obligatory old Punk crud out of the way, let us now move on to all that is right and just in this dying world.  Honestly, I have half a mind to quit posting that old Punk shit altogether.  I’m burned out.  You want to know my vision of the future for Punk / HC?  I picture a bunch of kids holding hands in front of the stage while sitting on plush pillows and, instead of slam-dancing, everyone will just join together for a group hug or, perhaps, a group cry.  Why do I feel that way? Because it is just that fucking gay.

So what’s up with these clowns?  I must say the only thing more ridiculous than this platter is the obscene amount of times I’ve listened to it since I bought it!  Thoroughly entertaining cheese, hailing from Columbus, Ohio, that actually has a sturdy backbone of 70’s glam and early Alice Cooper behind it, as opposed to NWOBHM.  Hey, I didn’t name this blog “Glorify The Turd” for nothing and I’m totally digging that rockin’ paintbrush, dude!  View it HERE!

Prevaricators – “Snubculture” LP (1984)

I found this in the same pile as that Scarlet record.  Never heard of these guys but, apparently, they had a few releases besides this.  It’s not bad, sounding kind of like the first Freeze LP played at 22.5 RPM, with the bastard son of a mad square dance caller on vocals.  The lyrics are fairly retarded in the fashion to which my ears tend to bend, but what have we here in that song “Are We Not Jerry’s Kids”?  Oh, my gracious me, it’s that evil, EVIL word again!  Tisk! Tisk! For shame!  And never mind the context  in which it’s used, as it is now off to the dust bins of forgotten Punk bands with your lot and y’all come back now, you hear?

Velvet Talks – Vanessa Del Rio (1981)

I guess some folks might be happy to know that I am finally getting near the bottom of the pile on these smut records.  But that could change.  I WILL make it change!  Anyway, as I’ve said before, I’ve never been a big fan of porn in general, not due to any sense of moral decency, but due to the fact that much of it really is demeaning to both sexes and the occasional farm animal.  As far as the genre goes, it is this sort of material that marks the point where the Average Joe Pud-Jerker begins and I leave off.  Just plain unrealistic, unimaginative and dumb and, when it got to the part where the guys force her to blow them and then piss on her face, I was starting to think it projected a negative attitude towards women but, fortunately, she liked it!  I’ve seen a few of these flexi’s floating around from this publication, but they are before my time and I know nothing about them.  Many of the ones I’ve run across don’t have the nifty picture on them and I assume they came with a magazine, attempting to add another sensory aspect to the spank-a-thon.  Obviously, the sound quality on this thing suffers as a result of the media it was pressed on—it is what it is.

Poopy Endorsement: The Torpedos – “Fruition” DVD-r (2012)

Not that I wasn’t already planning on doing the blog thang today, but imagine my surprise when I walked out to get the mail and found this in my box.  Talk about your perfect timing!  Anyway, while I usually do the endorsements on the tale end, I’ll bump this one to the top, seeing as they were kind enough to float me some free shit and this thing is already rare as hen’s teeth and more or less doomed to total obscurity once they run out of copies.  All you old Chicago sausage-heads from those days will most likely get a kick out of it.

So what we have here is what I would guess to be the final release by the long-defunct Chicago punk band, The Torpedos, in the form of a DVD-r with two live shows from 1981 and 1985 and a lengthy slide show of old stills from the good-old-days, that should be of interest to aging fans from the era, showing good-quality pics of the old clubs and the folks that frequented them.  Pretty fun stuff that is worth a look, even if you weren’t a part of it.  The video footage is about what you’d expect from what the average Punker had at his disposal back in those days, by which I mean VHS home video quality.  The 1981 show is pretty rough and is probably best viewed on a smaller screen to enhance clarity.  Looks like there may have been rendering issues, but it is what it is—you’re not going to find it anywhere else.  The 1985 show is in much better shape, shot with a more modern camera, and they run through all the stuff from the two LPs and then some.  There is also some still footage of Certain Death and Slammin’ Watusis thrown in for good measure, with one song each and some more old footage that probably hasn’t seen the light of day in a decade or two.

Not sure what the deal is with the shirts, but they exist (see below).  The DVDs are $10. Here’s the contact info…………

You can write ‘em at:

Torpedos / Damian
13827 S. 80th Ave
Orland Park, IL  60462

(9/12/12–NOTE THE NEW ADDRESS.)

They don’t do email, so send a stamp.  Yes, just like the “good-old-days”.  Ha!

You could also try Danny Imig from Certain Death.  His site:

See?  Every once in a while Mr. Poopy can do something halfway useful for the wretched remnants of Punk Rock.  Just don’t hold your breath for the next time!

It Came From The Pit – “V/A” (1985)

I got this from an old ex-punker a month or so ago, along with a couple other used-bin regulars, although this LP might be a little less known than some.  Here we have a bunch of bands from Hoserville, doing the mid-eighties Punk / HC thing straight across the party line.  It’s not a bad record and I think the way most folks hear this thing depends largely on how old they were when it came out.  A few somewhat well-known bands show up, although my fave track would have to be from virtual unknowns, The League Of Dead Politicians, DK rip-off guitars included!  Did those guys ever do anything else?

The Great Australian Fuckwit EP – “V/A” CD (1999)

It’s not big secret to me, at least, that the PC Police does, in fact, monitor this site for whatever reason.  I’ll assume it’s because they like it, right?  And here I thought I was holding back the dogs.  Hell, I know I am!  I spent well over a couple of decades around you clowns and if you want to pretend that I don’t have your number, that’s just fine and dandy.  Your rhetoric bears no weight.  So, with that in mind, let’s unleash some mindless garbage of no apparent musical or social value to celebrate our noble crusade for free speech!

Obviously, the bands on this recording are from Australia and, obviously, the dingoes ate their babies, prompting them to record this piece of ridiculousness.  The lyrics are pretty funny, too, and I did a high-res scan so you can all sing along.  The Blurters and Rupture should be known by most, although this is the only thing I’ve ever heard by Stanley Knife.  I tend to be pretty picky when it comes to bands that attempt this sort of schlock, but this one always worked for me for some reason, although I had totally forgotten about it until someone gave me some Rupture a few weeks ago.  Pretty decent for something less than 25 years old!

Sound Barrier – “Speed Of Light” LP (1986)

A while back, I posted the second EP by this band and, at the time, I did not own this record, forcing me to embark on a tireless quest to obtain more of their stuff.  So tireless was my quest, in fact, that I passed up numerous copies of this for around $5 or so, only to at last settle for a sealed copy for $2.00.  It was just that important.  Then, overwhelmed by a dire sense of immediacy, I let the thing sit around for a year and a half or so until getting around to posting it.   Because it’s just that good!

OK, now that I’ve had my fun, I have to say that, although this is their third and last LP, this might actually be a little better than the second one in some regards, as it has a bit of a NWOBHM sound to it, reminding me of Iron Maiden’s “Killers” LP for some reason or other—maybe the bass?  Also, the musicianship is top notch—there’s no denying that, but it just kind of falls flat, delivering a paint-by-numbers exercise of your typical Heavy / Power Metal standards.  There just isn’t anything really special about it and, yet again, this band has a certain intangible quality that seems to separate them from maybe 99.9% of other Metal bands.  It’s like it’s staring me in the face and I just can’t seem to put my finger on it.  Help me out, guys, as I’m in completely over my head on this one!  It’s those army outfits, right?

Fantasy Tapes – “Orgy Family” Cassette (1987)

Right off the bat, I can think of at least two things that are very wrong with this cassette.  First off, while I can’t exactly speak from experience, my general understanding of what constitutes an “orgy” is that it involves at least more than two people, whereas this story only involves two people—a brother and sister.  Secondly, this entire recording is a complete rip off of “Sonny and Sis”, the very first thing I posted on this blog.  So what’s the deal with that?  Is it like that movie, “The Aristocrats”, where you kind of use the same basic plot outline as a vehicle to ad-lib whatever sick shit pops into your head?  Not like these people are ad-libbing, mind you, as the whole thing reads like they might have rehearsed it maybe once before making the recording!  At least “Sonny and Sis” sounds somewhat professional, whereas just about any jerk with a tape recorder could have cranked this piece of shit out.  But I guess that would be part of the charm of the thing, as there isn’t a single element of this entire recording that boasts of imagination, intelligence or professionalism—it’s the bottom of the food chain!  Pure audio garbage.

And, again, I find myself wondering who the hell got off on this stuff.  Shit, I get more out of looking at the pictures on the cover than I do listening to it!  Do blind people need stuff to jerk off to or something?

The Grim – S/T LP (1984)

Yeah, long time no posts.  Whatever.  I’ve been having technical difficulties.  Aside from that, I’ve been making some killer vinyl scores in recent months, but as far as un-blogged and little-known Punk Rock goes, it’s been the dregs—even I’m embarrassed by it!  So, with that in mind, I’m going to do what has been requested of me a few times and post a couple Mystic records, despite the fact that I’m pretty sure all the other stuff I own is available on the web or back in print.  And besides, after subjecting you guys to Dr. Sadistic and The Silverking Crybabies, I feel like I’m almost obliged to put up something halfway decent!

So here we have one of those “used bin regulars” that I used to talk about when I first started the blog and, undoubtedly, if you were flipping through the used bin back in the 80’s and 90’s, you found yourself staring the old orange GRIM jack-o-lantern in the face.  In fact, I just now got around to peeling the sticker price off my copy to scan it.  How much did I pay? $0.99!  Not no more, kiddies!  That aside, I see nothing at all wrong with this record, as it is prime juvenile Mystic slop of the most righteous order, recorded with that fine Mystic studio sound and graced with that classy X-Acto knife artwork we all love and enjoy.  And this thing is inching towards 30 years old now!  Geeze.

Mystic Sampler #1 – LP (1984)

Ah, memories.  I bought this not too long after it came out and, while I didn’t exactly regard it as one of my favorite records at the time, I played it quite a bit during my mid to late teens and, suffice to say, it made something of an impression on me, despite myself.  Lots of fun stuff on here, including about the only thing by The Minutemen I’ve ever been able to tolerate and a killer track by Kommunity FK, which is permanently etched on my brain until the day I die.  Strangely enough, I never picked up any other Kommunity FK stuff from that era, so I need to ask if anyone is familiar with their discography and knows where I can give their early stuff a listen.  The only other thing I have by them is the “Close One Sad Eye” LP.  This LP also features an early version of “I Saw Your Mommy” by Suicidal Tendencies that blows away the one on their first LP.  Actually, I never liked that song as it was popular with the fence-sitt…….. …..er…..um…..skater punks, never mind that the lyrics sound like they were written by a six year-old.  Too bad he didn’t do “Possessed” or “I Want More” instead, but it’s still decent.  Supposedly, it also got put out on a comp called “Slamulation”, but I’ve never come across it.  Maybe it never came out?

Razor – 7″ (1980)

OK, I need to post at least one stinker here.  We have certain standards to uphold, you know.  Yes, I do realize this record sucks but, like The Tinglers, it has some strange hold on me that I can’t shake.  Maybe it’s the retarded keyboards or maybe it’s because I associate this style of rock with a very enjoyable and innocent period of my life, giving it an unintentional haunting quality that only I understand.  Who knows?  Well, I guess I should.  Sorry for the surface noise.  I’ve found several copies of this and this one is the only playable copy I could scratch up—I guess it’s just that good!

J.C. Mahoney – “Has Anybody Seen America” 7″ (1976)

Well it’s that time of year again, isn’t it?  Yep, this blog has been around for three years, which is about two and a half years longer than I intended and also let me tell you, things were a fuckin’ hell of a lot better for me three years ago!  Nothin’ beats the feeling of sliding around on a slippery slope and the sinking feeling that things are only going to get worse and by “things” I mean the state of this country—not Mr. Poopy.  Mr. Poopy always comes out on top in the end.  At least so far I have.  We’ll just have to see, now won’t we?  So anyway, ‘tis the season for patriotism, so I will now subject you so some glorious Americana.  We’ll make it quick and it won’t hurt a bit.  I promise.

So we’ll start the ball rolling with this piece of 70’s cheese that comes off like a cross between Don McLean and the criminally under-downloaded Johnny Flag.  This song uses the somewhat odd analogy of comparing the loss of America with some woman abandoning her family and it sort of works.  At any rate, it might interest Mr. Mahoney to know that she’s back now and she’s filed the papers and is taking the house, the car and alimony payments look like they’re going to be a bitch.  Only one song on this thing and it’s on both sides.

Charlie Stewart – “G.I. Joe / Kangaroo Court” 7″ (196?)

Oh, hell, yeah.  If I could find a slab like this every day for the rest of my life, I’d die a happy man.  Some scorching old school country and western here and both sides are great and, unbelievably, this disc appears to be pretty much unknown.  Yes, Mr. Stewart isn’t shy about telling you that he has shrapnel in both legs and God help you if you are a draft-card burning commie!  Flip it over and you have an anti-corruption tirade directed at a judge on the take.  Good stuff and perhaps I’ll subject you to more of this guy’s works in the future—he had a few others.

John Steinbacher – “1973″ 7″ EP (196?, 197?)

It’s no big secret that I have a ton of records like this and from to time I’ll play one of them and marvel at how much of the predictions came true.  Well this record isn’t one of them!  Basically, this fruitcake is asserting that the Blacks and Commies will be taking over America in 1973 and details how it is going to happen.  Mr. Steinbacher spouts the same old line that these many of those guys preached and it might hold a little bit of water if he hadn’t tied an exact date to it.  Never give an exact date!!!  Strangely, the Jews got left out of the conspiracy, but maybe that was supposed to happen in 1974.

Bob Hafner And The Homesteaders – “The Day George Wallace Was Shot / Brave Men Walk Alone” (1972)

Yet another George Wallace record.  Apparently, there were a ton of these things and clearly Mr. Hafner was a fan of early Buck Owens.  Well, clear to me, at least.  The rest of you clowns need to buy a Buck Owens record.  Actually, the flip is the winner on this one, although both sides have that cheesy, amateurish charm that makes this stuff fun.  Oh, and I love how some clown decided to give a history lesson on the label of side 2.  Thanks, buddy.  You increased the collectors value of this thing a thousand fold, jerkwad.

Son Of Mississippi – “Flight NAACP 105 / The Voice Of Alabama” (196?)

And we’ll finish off this series with another record from the notorious Reb Rebel label.  I’ve found a few copies of this one, with a variety of covers and different flipsides.  I’ve also heard a different version of “Flight NAACP 105”, but I only have a bootleg copy of it.  Anyway, as I have been lead to believe, this was a fairly popular comedy recording down South back in the day and many of these records were pressed.  As I realize most of you mouse-clickers have no attention spans to speak of, I’ll detail what the skit is about.  What we have is a couple drunk Amos and Andy rejects trying to fly a plane, one of whom sharing the last name of a certain activist who was causing a fuss at the time.  The plane is getting low on gas, so they call the control tower to find a place to land, where some redneck dude steers them into the side of a mountain.  Now, I believe I’ve stated elsewhere that some comedy doesn’t stand the test of time, right?  And who was Amos and Andy you ask?  Just forget it.  The flip is another political statement like the Happy Fats stuff I posted last year.

Poopy Endorsement: The Mau Maus “Scorched Earth Policies” LP/CD (2012)

Shit, I almost forgot to endorse this thing.  I’ll make it quick: BUY THIS!  Haven’t heard any decent Punk in a while? Buy this.  Haven’t heard any old shit that hasn’t been mercilessly beaten into the ground or should have been tossed in the trash and forgotten?  Buy this. Period.  As you should already know, The Mau Maus were one of the original LA Punk bands from the very beginning and beyond but, for whatever reasons, couldn’t get their act together to put out a studio LP.  Now they have and I don’t mind saying this has been glued to my turntable and CD player since I picked it up.  Absolutely flaming old-school Punk the way it was meant to be presented, with the type of righteous, pissed-off sarcasm, bite and disgust that is so very sorely missing from today’s music.  The songs “Laughtrack” and “Dead Or Alive” are worth the price of admission alone.  The first six tracks were recorded in 1983 with killer production and the last eight are recent recordings of old tunes that sound exactly like the old stuff.  VERY highly recommended to fans of old school Punk Rock and as a tutorial to those who would like to learn how to do it PROPERLY.

Dr. Sadistic And The Silverking Crybabies – “Pyramid Punk” LP (1980)

Looks like we’re overdue for some posts again.  Sorry, guys, but I’m busy—not that I owe you clowns anything.  No, I don’t owe you a damn thing and, in fact, this particular record is a donation of sorts, recently given to me by an old friend.  I first heard this thing about 7 or 8 years ago and was so impressed with it, that I felt compelled to fetch it out of the pile and beg for it.  And, of course, it’s for a worthy cause, right?  So why would I go through so much trouble?  Because it’s a great record that needs to be shared with the world?  Don’t be silly!  And check your URL while you’re at it and recognize that, yes, you are here and, no, you should know better than that by now.  In fact I would dare to say that this is one of the most heinous, crap fake Punk records I have ever heard in my life and, like the cover says, it is of “no redeeming social value”.  Unfortunately, it is of no musical value, either.   The back cover also makes the claim that this is a “concept album” and I have to agree that, if the concept is making an LP of unlistenable Disco-influenced crapola, it succeeds with flying colors!  And that’s enough of that, but let me finish my flame by adding that, if you managed to tolerate some of the other bad Punk records I’ve churned up, this baby just might be the one to put you on the ropes!

So, with the necessary (and deserved) bashing out of the way, let me try to halfway defend this thing a little bit.  First off, they were from Aspen, Colorado.  Never been there, but I can only imagine that being a working stiff in a town like that would have to royally suck, so I can offer some degree of sympathy and possibly a little leeway, but this record came out in 1980.  Secondly, I have to admit the lyrics are pretty good, actually above average and pretty funny but, man, is this thing ever a tough listen!  But to each his own, right?  Obviously, some dude who smoked a lot of cigarettes liked the thing, because the B-Side is thrashed and it smells like an ashtray.  I should also mention that, if it were between listening to this thing or The Spooks, I’d pick this baby, hands down!

Hollywood Harlots – “Love, Gay-Style” LP (196?)

Yes, more smut.  Is this stuff driving away readers?  Well, good riddance to you, but I fear this piece of junk might just drive off whoever is left!  Yeah, this disc is queer as fuck, but not at all what I thought it would be when I picked it up, figuring it for a comedy routine along the lines of some of the other smut records I’ve posted.  Not the case.  Actually, I’ll admit that I find this record interesting, not for its content (that is actually pretty weak), but for what the entire package as a whole was originally meant for.  You see, this is NOT a “party record”.  It was actually meant as an audio stimulant for some lonely Sodomite to jerk his gherkin to in the privacy of his own home.  The cover of this record (not pictured) is nothing but a blank, white piece of cardboard with no writing on it.  Inside one finds some old black and white photos of a couple naked fags doing some soft-core porn shots.  So basically, this thing gave you the entire package: something to look at and something to listen to.

Judging by the hairstyles of the two guys, I’m guessing this came out in the late 1960’s, during that ambiguous period where hardcore porn was still basically illegal, but mildly tolerated if it was sold under the counter, thus making this an underground recording.  And it sounds it.  Obviously, it’s just a couple fags coming up with smutty schlock in an apartment, using a reel-to-reel tape recorder.  The A-Side may or may not be a live sex act, with unnecessary dialogue to keep the listener interested but, even if it was a guy and a chick, it wouldn’t be that interesting.  The mic wasn’t grounded properly or something, either, because there is an annoying buzz that I can’t get rid of throughout most of it.   The B-Side is the “S & M Party” and it is considerably more entertaining with whippings, fisting, buggery and general butt piracy that any two jerks could have made up off the top of their heads whether they were gay or not, although at any given moment I’m expecting to hear the door kicked down and Tesco Vee shout “Eat on this knuckle sandwich—we’re not tooling for anus!”

I’ve Got Those Demo-Lition Blues – V/A LP (1983)

While I’ve known several people who managed completely by-pass the phase, I tend to think it wasn’t too unusual for most US Punk kids in the 80’s to go through a UK82 / British Punk phase at some point in their youths—usually during the late teens or early 20’s and, amazingly, I still see kids today dressing up like bands from that era.  Whatever.  Personally, I went through a period of several years where I couldn’t stand the sound of this stuff, but a few years back I had a change of heart and started liking these bands again.  Let’s see: a disintegrating empire, no jobs, no future, and no signs of things getting any better?  I think it has finally sunk into my Yankee brain-I get it now, and the stuff these kids were ranting about back then holds some new significance to me.  Aside from that, I totally would have eaten this record up as a kid—I loved this stuff and, while this seems to have come out around the tail end of the first wave, it is decent Punk schlock for the not-too-picky listener of music from this era.  This comp seems to be a little less known than some of its contemporaries and therein lies the charm, as these songs haven’t been totally beaten into the ground like some of the better known records from this classic period.  This is pretty much low-fi, working class, political Punk slop that doesn’t sound like Discharge or GBH—more like Chaos UK and Exploited.   A fun listen if you haven’t heard this sort of stuff in a while.

I promised this to one of my loyal readers and, of course, it is my pleasure to see this sort of recording made available for general consumption.  Not much else to say about this record that I haven’t already said about the other ones, although fans of Wife Swapping Swingers Orgy will be happy to hear that this one appears to be written by the same guy, with ass-eating, forced anal, and the most sexually demanding grocery store delivery boy to ever walk the face of the earth.  And it’s all performed by professional-sounding, old school radio voices that don’t fit at all with the retarded dialogue.  You know the drill, but who ever knew that Katharine Hepburn was so hard up for cash?

Sounds Of The San Francisco Adult Bookstores – 7″ EP (1997)

So I’m trolling eBay, looking to see if any of those smut records ever get sold on there and I find some ass-clown trying to sell this record for $80.00.  Yes, $80.00!  You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!  Now, I know some sellers out there have no idea what they are doing, with the result that we will see some crazy prices from time to time and it is my earnest, heart-felt hope that this is the case with this record.  PLEEEEEAAAAASE let it be the case!!!!!  If not, then record collecting has truly hit a new low, as this disc is one of the most uninteresting, no-talent, pieces of shit I have ever heard!  Any jerk could have made this thing in his sleep.  Seriously, this record is so stupid it’s not even funny  unless, of course, you’re idea of “funny” is people being annoyed by dumbass novelty records that are so stupid they aren’t even funny, in which case the record would, indeed, be technically “funny”, but you’d be a jerk.

You can take my word for it that the only reason I am even posting this is in the hopes that some fool who is actually considering blowing $80.00 on this piece of tripe will do a search and find this post.  Then, after realizing that this record is, in fact, lame crap, he will do the right thing and blow his $80.00 on a bag of rock or a couple fat chunks of glass.

Oh, yes, and if memory serves, I paid $1.99 for this piece of shit—and felt cheated!!

Sounds Of The American Fast Food Restaurants – 7″ EP (1996)

I bought this record at the same time as the above record and, like the above record, paid $1.99 for it.  So what do you think this thing is worth now?  Well, considering it sucks even worse than the other one, I’d have to guess $100.00!  Obviously, I’m all about the dumbass novelty records, but this stuff is just lame.

Mutants – “Boss Man / Back Yard Boys” 7″ (1977)

I have to admit this is kind of a lame post, seeing as this is a bootleg and all, but last I checked this disc wasn’t exactly a household name and, until that happens, not enough attention can be given to this masterpiece.  Actually, I ran across it while I was trying to find those two lame records I posted above and I just can’t resist putting it up since it’s so damn good!  For some reason the picture on the back cover wound up on the front of that “Live To Ride” comp, but were these guys really Metal?  They sort of look it, but this sounds pretty Punk to me.  If fact, it’s Poopy Punk, and it simply doesn’t get any more righteous than “Boss Man”, a killer track to be sure, to which we can all relate—unfortunately.  The flip is great stuff, as well.

So just get a look at these Punk freaks, will you?  You know, I really get tired of saying things like “they just don’t make ‘em like that anymore” but, damn, they sure don’t!  What the hell happened?  As undoubtedly at least a couple of the guys from this outfit are still among the living somewhere, maybe we can clone their DNA in the hopes of maybe hearing some decent music again in another 18 or 20 years.  I just can’t see the current crop of sissies breeding anything but more of the same!

Back In Business!

All the old posts have now been switched over to MediaFire and the site is, once again, fully functional.  Let’s see how long this lasts, shall we?  I have to admit my confidence in MediaFire could be a little higher, but I’ll give them a chance.  And am I the only one who has trouble with their multi-uploader?  It rarely works and you have to upload one file at a time, hovering over the site until it goes through.  To compound the problem, the nearest high speed internet connection I have is a gas station on the edge of the nearest town with minimal heat and stinks of fried pork tenderloin and potato wedges.  So here I am, stinking of pork tenderloins and potato wedges, and what the hell have you clowns done for me?  Nuthin’!

Oh, and I did some long-overdue site maintenance while I was waiting and stinking.  Basically, I added some new categories to aid in site navigation.  Now, you can get all the Mentors and El Duce posts at the click of a mouse and I did the same with a couple other bands and genres.  I have also received a couple requests in the past to put together a list of some of the top retard and fake Punk releases.  Well, I’m not sure if I can really comply with such a request but, as far as this site goes, I added the categories of Poopy Punk and Poopy Rock that, while containing some legitimate releases, tends to gravitate more towards the bands and artists who went the extra mile in general dumbassitude and crapola.  Not that most of this stuff isn’t stupid, mind you!  I have some new posts in the works and should have them up by then end of the week.

Re-Ups? I’m working on it!

As you most likely have not noticed, I have begun re-uploading the old posts.  I originally started doing it alphabetically, but soon realized it was easier to do it chronologically, so I started doing it from the beginning of the blog on up.  However, it’s taking forever!  For one thing, the multi-uploader on MediaFire hasn’t been cooperating, forcing me to hover over my computer, doing one or two at a time.  Secondly, as I said before, my bandwidth sucks and this project is sucking me dry of the measly 5K a month wireless bandwidth I get on my wireless broadband card.  We’ll get there–probably in just enough time for MediaFire to pussy out and kick me right back to square one!  And where is my refund from Megaupload?  Those Federal swine ripped me off for a good six months of service that I paid for–all in the interest of the public good, I assume.  Aside, from all of this, if there is some old post you want re-upped, just ask.  It’s going to get done, anyway.  Eventually.

Live At The Vortex – V/A LP (1977)

Well, it appears that the file sharing panic has at least partially subsided for now, so I guess we’ll toss up a few records.  As I said before, I fully intend to reactivate all the old downloads and I even plan on having it done by the end of the month if possible.  Anyone found anything decent out there besides Rapidshare? Can’t say as I’m too thrilled about using them again, as I’ve already dumped them once and I don’t trust them.  I’ve also heard they’ve been messing up a lot due to the high volume of new accounts.

So here we have a record I meant to post a long time ago and forgot about, a disc that possibly falls into what I referred to as “used bin regulars”, of which I posted many when I first started this blog.  Apparently, it got some bad press and developed a bad reputation when it came out, leading it to be more or less disregarded for whatever reason.  And who’s to say?  Maybe it deserved it.  So does it suck? By no means!  It is a decent representation of Class of 1977 Punk, recorded live with decent sound.  I think the reason it was initially pooh-poohed is because it’s pretty much a stereotypical display of Punk standards of the time, which is fine with me and the rest of the indiscriminate fans of generic Punk schlock.  My personal pick would be that last track by Maniacs—such a fine sentiment, so rarely seen or properly expressed these days.  But, sorry, buddy; you’re history!
