Demographics: Behind the Scene (Part 1 of 2)
Update: Please watch the remastered HD version here: : www.youtube.com A short documentary about the Demoscene, an artistic and staunchly non-commercial computer subculture. This film discusses scene history, demo groups, and of course parties. It was made for "Mindcandy Volume 1: PC Demos," a DVD that archives several classic PC productions. Uploaded at the request of the director.

A prisoner is trying to escape from the nazi fortress in this classic game that arguably started the whole 'stealth' genre, Castle Wolfenstein. Bioforge Intro
The intro movie for the great 1995 Origin thriller game. One of my personal favorites when it comes to darker games. MobyGames.com game description: "You are a prisoner in a Mondite complex with no memory of your former life. Your body has been turned into a hideous cybernetic nightmare by the evil Dr. Mastaba. The Mondites have discovered a long dead alien civilization of unimaginable power. And to make matters worse one of the aliens was accidentally revived from its tomb and is now running rampant throughout the complex. Bioforge is an action-adventure game similar to Alone in the Dark. It features polygonal characters over pre-rendered backgrounds, and 3D Tekken-ish combat." Check the complete MobyGames game profile at www.mobygames.com ... And it seems you can still get the game from Amazon :)

Star Trek, Atari ST - Part 1 - Ain't Played In Ages
Star Trek, The Rebel Universe is a rather odd game that is based on the classic Trek series. Although I find it hard to figure out what to do, there is apparently a plot, which is outlined on the Moby Games page. I could have read up on it, but I think this provides a more genuine experience of me reliving the game. I don't think we had an instruction manual back then. This one is a bit poor relatively speaking, and probably not the most enteratining of my videos. I edited it significantly to remove a lot of the bumbling about and confusion though Star Trek, The Rebel Universe on Moby Games: www.mobygames.com Estimated time since last play: 16 years. "Ain't Played In Ages" is a live narrated walkthrough / let's play series of various games that I haven't played for many years. Usually I'm playing them in the video for the first time since I was a kid. That's a long time ago. Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Unit A. 'Another World' aka 'Out of this World' - DOS Nostalgia #6
A creation of Eric Chahi (who did everything but the music for the game), Another World is a game that aged exceptionally well. No HUD, no speech, no useless text, just the good old visual storytelling in this groundbreaking action adventure. Be prepared to die a lot and then cry for more when the game is over. Moby Games page: www.mobygames.com If you don't own this game already get the the 15th anniversary edition here: www.anotherworld.fr It features slightly updated graphics, high resolution support and is even more balanced then the PC DOS version (which used to be the definitive one). It's only $10 people! Less than two Burger King meals. Not many people know that the game had a 'sequel' of sorts, 'Heart of the Alien' that was released on Sega CD only. Eric Chahi wasn't directly involved apart from approving some concepts. The game is not as good as 'Another World' and is quite frustrating, but it has a great intro showing your alien buddy and what he was doing when you were separated in the original game. It's worth checking out if you're a fan of the original. UPDATE: I was reminded that Eric Chai developed one more game after AW, and that was 'Heart of Darkness' for Windows and PSX. Moby Games page here: www.mobygames.com The game is very similar to 'Another World' and looks like it should have been released in '92. But even in 320x240 resolution the spite animations are fantastic and the overall game design is superb.

Chess Wars - DOS Longplay - Part 005 - Menu and Gameplay (at Beginner AI)
Chess Wars: A Medieval Fantasy [Here's some in-game graphics. I had to turn cinematics off to keep DosBox from splitting the recording on video mode changes. Too bad I couldn't fit a whole match in, but maybe later.] This is a very obscure chess game published by WizardWorks in 1998 (created by Art Data Interactive in 1996). Think of Battle Chess but with an 8 minute intro FMV introducing the live action characters representing the pieces, FMV cut-scenes for each piece capture (some very fun to watch), and short FMV endings for each side's checkmate. Gameplay is on tilted perspective, "3D rendered", board with "lifelike 3D animated pieces" with options for different textured boards and backgrounds and traditionally shaped chess pieces. After finding this on a bargain shelf back in the late 90s, I found it to be an interesting evolution on the Battle Chess concept. However, looking it up online in 2008, I could not find record of Chess Wars on Wikipedia, MobyGames, or GameFaqs. I started to doubt the game ever existed except for the copy in my hand. Then I remembered to Google it. Not much help there either when I checked, except for a couple of personal sites listing themselves as working on the game in 1996 and winning "Best New Video Game". Funny for an award winning game to just disappear off the map like that, but this was about the time of the crash of the live-action FMV craze (and subsequent bankruptcies). I think I've only played a handful of matches in this game ...

Jim Plays Star Wolves - Part 1
Star Wolves is a bit like Homeworld with RPG elements. You play as an ex-trader whose freighter was blown up by pirates and has to become a mercenary alongside a guy called Ace. The RPG elements involve gaining experience and levelling up your character's skills. You also earn money by doing missions and can spend it on new ships and upgrades. I've barely scratched the surface so far, and I plan to continue it "offscreen" and maybe do a video later when I've made more progress. This game (as well as the two sequels) were very generously gifted to me by InsertDiskB. How awesome is that guy? :D Star Wolves on Moby Games: www.mobygames.com Categorised lists of all my videos can be found on my site: www.tinyurl.com

Nuclear War, Amiga - Part 1 - Overlooked Oldies
Nuclear War is a fairly basic strategy game based on a runaway nuclear arms race. It treats the subject with humour since the alternative is gloomy seriousness, so you know which I prefer. Even if you win, everyone still loses. I struggle a bit figuring out how to play at first, so I hope that's not too frustrating to watch. Should have looked at the instructions. Sorry :) This is a request by hiffin and The Ungulable on my 128 subscriber special. Nuclear War on Moby Games: www.mobygames.com "Overlooked Oldies" is a series of let's play videos of retro games that I somehow never played back in the day. Many of them will be suggestions made by subscribers, particularly on binary milestone request videos. Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by SCoopex. Carmageddon - Part 1 - Continuing Classics
Carmageddon is among my favourite games because it's bloody amazing... and amazingly bloody. A game of destruction and gratuitous violence in a poor disguise as a racing game. Who cares about the checkpoints, just kill everyone. These are therefore among my everlasting favourites. Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Hoodlum. The full version can be heard and seen here: flashtro.com

Space Rangers 2 - Part 1 - Overlooked Oldies
Space Rangers 2 is a space combat and trading game, sort of like a cross between a turn based star control and elite. It's a fairly complex game that I barely scratched the surface of in these videos. I look forward to exploring it further. Not sure if this really counts as an oldie, since it's only 6 years old, but anyway, here it is. This game was generously gifted to me by InsertDiskB. Loom - DOS Nostalgia #3
An adventure with a twist and probably the most underrated LucasArts game. Music, magic, a whole bunch of swans and absolutely no inventory in this 1990 EGA gem. Tchaikovsky is probably spinning in his grave, but who cares? This short and sweet interactive story will help you relax and kill an hour or so. Mobygames page: www.mobygames.com The 'best' version of this game is probably on the FM Towns computer. This version has 256-color graphics, but no speech and has all of the graphics (close ups) and dialog from the EGA version intact as well as properly recorded music.
