The Kelly Affair - UK
Sep 2003 The controversial death of weapons expert Dr David Kelly threatened to undermine the integrity of the British Government. Long faced and withdrawn, the widow of former weapons expert David Kelly makes her way to give evidence to the Hutton Inquiry. Dr Kelly was apparently driven to suicide after being named as a source in media reports claiming the Government exaggerated the case for war with Iraq. The excessive media and parliamentary pressure that followed led him to take his own life. The Government now stands accused of having driven Kelly to suicide in an attempt to protect its public image -- the worst case of political 'spin' gone mad. A full inquiry into the Government's treatment of Dr Kelly, chaired by Lord Hutton, threatens the reputation of everyone up to Tony Blair himself. Blair's trusted aid Alastair Campbell has already resigned, despite denying he misled Britain over the reasons for going to war. However, having come to power promising to be "whiter than white," Blair's government may find it difficult to redeem its once spotless reputation.

Paul Westwood on the "suicide" of Dr David Kelly
"Many dark actors playing games" Email sent to New York Times journalist Judith Miller by Dr David Kelly on the morning of his death 17th July 2003. Why did Thames Valley Police launch "Operation Mason" to search for David kelly a full half hour before he was reported missing. Why did the Hutton inquiry decide that evidence relating to the death including the post-mortem report & photographs of the body should remain classified for seventy years. Why was no proper inquest carried out by Lord Hutton but rather an " inquiry" where nobody was required to swear on oath in a court sitting usually held only for victims of multiple deaths such as a train crash or the Hillsborough disaster. Two experienced paramedics who arrived at scene described inconsistencies with other suicide victims in particular a lack of blood, they later called a press conference their evidence completely ignored by the authorities. Noted toxicologist have stated on record that the drug coproxamol was well below lethal doses at the time of the victims death he had in fact only a third of what would be considered a lethal dose in his system. Are security agencies spying on us through modern technology such as mobile phones. We speak to investigator Paul Westwood on these matters & other discrepancies surrounding the tragic death of Dr David Kelly on the " out there" hour @ Alternative Future Radio

MURDER MOST FOUL OF Dr DAVID KELLY - OPERATION - FREE - MASON
MURDER MOST FOUL OF Dr DAVID KELLY - OPERATION -FREE - MASON NO WMD REPORT The name of the late Dr David KELLY Investigation was called "OPERATION MASON" - is no co-incidence - link to FREEMASONRY! On the afternoon of Friday, 18th July 2003, Detective Constable ("DC") Coe turned up at the Kelly residence accompanied by a man identified only as 'AN ATTACHMENT,' who acted as an 'exhibits officer' presumably collecting documents in behalf of some other government agency. DC Coe and those accompanying him are somewhat of a MYSTERY. There are no corroborating witnesses to any of his actions to which he testified (other than 'JUST BEING THERE' at the scene where the body was found). However, on a listing of evidence provided to the Hutton inquiry by Thames Valley Police ("TVP") is a reference to a document described: 'TVP TACTICAL SUPPORT MAJOR INCIDENT Policy Book· Between 1430 17.07.03 and 930 18.07.03. DCI Alan Young. It is labeled as NOT FOR RELEASE - Police operational information.' Many of the exhibits are labeled that way or are NOT TO BE RELEASED as personal information. The police took over 300 statements from witnesses but less than 70 were forwarded to the Hutton inquiry. Witness statements were NOT to be released (even to the inquiry) unless the witness signed AN AUTHORIZATION permitting it. TVP also withheld witness interviews they did NOT consider 'relevant' to the inquiry. Witnesses were NOT put UNDER OATH so it is impossible for the public to know if their ...

Andrew Gilligan: BBC 'unbelievably badly managed'
The former Today programme defence correspondent, whose interview with government scientist Dr David Kelly triggered the Hutton inquiry, says it was an "amazing failing" of Newsnight not to seek comment from Tory grandee Lord McAlpine over sexual abuse claims but reserves his ire for BBC management. The former Today programme defence correspondent, whose disputed report in 2003 accused the Blair government of 'sexing up' the dossier justifying military intervention in Iraq, believes it was an "amazing failing" for Newsnight not to have sought comment from Lord McAlpine over sexual abuse claims. Steve Messham, the former care home resident who made the claims against Lord McAlpine on Newsnight, has since admitted that he identified the wrong man and apologised to the peer. But Andrew Gilligan says the reason the affair is a major crisis for the BBC is that the Newsnight programme was approved at a high level in BBC management. Gilligan, who is now the London Editor for The Telegraph, also defended Angus Stickler, the former BBC reporter who was brought in to front the Newsnight report, describing him as a "very good journalist". "I can't quite understand how he came to front such a bad piece of reporting but I suspect it wasn't entirely his fault. If it was his decision not to contact McAlpine that's extremely bad but I just rather suspect that it wasn't, that there was some senior editorial person involved who made that terrible decision," he said. Dr. David Kelly
In 2003 Dr David Kelly was found dead in the woods. Caught in a political vortex, Dr Kelly had been forced to appear before a televised government committee investigating whether he had accused British government figures of planting in a dossier the questionable claim that WMDs could be unleashed from Iraq in 45 minutes. The Hutton Inquiry concluded that Dr Kelly. But did he?

Stumbling Over Truth: The inside story of the 'sexed-up' dossier, Hutton and the BBC
8/09/12 It has been ten years since the publication of the "September Dossier", part of an ongoing investigation by the government into weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The following year, on 29 May, the then BBC defence correspondent Andrew Gilligan reported on Radio 4's Today programme that he had been told by an unnamed source that the dossier had been "sexed up". His source was later revealed to be government scientist Dr David Kelly who was subsequently found dead in a field in Oxfordshire. The Hutton Inquiry set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding Dr Kelly's death lead to one of the biggest shake ups the BBC has seen. Not only did it cost the corporation its chairman and director general, but many believe it brought in a new age of caution. Kevin Marsh who was editor of the Today programme at the time was not given an opportunity to give evidence at the Inquiry. Now, after leaving the BBC, he reveals for the first time in his new book how the BBC reacted in the face of unprecedented government pressure. Kevin Marsh and others will be joining us to ask to what extent have the events of ten years ago affected the BBC and its willingness to tackle stories that challenge the government line. Does the British media still have the ability - or appetite - to hold power to account? Chaired by Roy Greenslade, media commentator and Professor of journalism at London's City University. He was editor of the Daily Mirror (1990-91), was managing editor (news) at ...

The Death of Dr. David Kelly - GRTV
TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com On July 18, 2003, British biowarfare expert and UN weapons inspector David Kelly was found dead on Harrowdown Hill, near his home in Oxfordshire. Ruled a suicide by the official judicial inquiry chaired by Lord Hutton, now a group of British doctors is challenging the Attorney General's decision not to hold a coroner's inquest into the death, citing the overlooked, suppressed and modified evidence suggesting Dr. Kelly was murdered. This is the GRTV Backgrounder on The Death of Dr. David Kelly.

Public inquiries in the dock
By the end of 1990s the public inquiry had come to play a prominent role in British political life. Where the authority of politicians is often in doubt, the authority of the public inquiry is unquestioned and seen as representing an impartial way to establish the truth. Yet the public play no role in the formation of an inquiry's judgment and are simply spectators. In this fascinating Battle of Ideas debate eminent speakers have it out and audience members raise the stakes. Did we really not know what happened at Hillsborough, on Bloody Sunday or in Iraq until an un-elected judge mulled it over years later?

Iraq War, Chicot inquiry debate, Geoffrey Cox speech, 24/06/09
Geoff Cox points out serious shortcomings in the Government's proposed Iraq war (Chilcot) inqiury, Which has already been dubbed by many as an establishment stitch-up. This debate showed the British Parliament at both its best and its worst. On the one hand around 20 MPs delivered well researched, eloquently worded, and passionately delivered speeches. The vast majority where highly critical of the governments proposed Iraq enquiry. They expressed strong doubts about the credentials of those chosen by the government to lead the inquiry, sighting one as having been directly involved in trying to push through a second UN resolution permitting an invasion of Iraq. Another had been involved in the Hutton inquiry (regarded by some as a whitewash). A third (a Historian) has publicly compared Bush and Blair to Roosevelt and Churchill. They pointed to the absence of specialists with cross examination skills, with first hand experience of working in the military, or in parliament. They pointed out that this inquiry would be unable to place witnesses under any form of legally binding oath. Etc etc In short they made it clear that the governments proposed inquiry would not be fit for purpose, and could not hope satisfy the majority British public. Most of the speakers wanted more time and consultation given to setting up a more credible Inquiry. They were denied this by a large group of Labour back benchers, most of whom where not even present for most of the debate, and who I ...

David Hutton's testimony to Listeriosis inquiry
FAIR executive director David Hutton testifies to the Food Safety Subcommittee on 1 June 2009 about the causes of the Listeriosis outbreak that killed 21 Canadians. As an acknowledged expert in management systems, Hutton explains how the paper-based systems are that being increasingly relied upon to ensure food safety are fragile and open to abuse. In the hands of unscrupulous or incompetent management these systems can become a facade hiding all kinds of potentially lethal problems. Hutton also explains how whistleblower protection -- throughout the entire food system -- is needed to ensure safety. He states: "Unless we create effective whistleblower protection for people working in the food industry -- from the public servants who make policy and oversee the industry, to the managers and workers on the production lines -- Canadians will continue to die needlessly because of avoidable failures within the food supply."
