A highly favored tourist site near the Great Wall of China, Simataï is a village that has been beautifully reconstructed in the style of the olden days. From the center of the village, tourists can now access the steepest, most stunning and most authentic parts of the Great Wall of China. This 1,200-metre long MULTIX 8 with a vertical rise of 300 m enables passengers in the 43 SIGMA Diamond 8 cabins to enjoy a comfortable ride. 6km hike on the Great Wall of China in Fall 2015. We started at Jinshanling and ended at Simatai

There are many places to see the Great Wall of China (it is after all over 6260 km (3890 miles) in length !). The most popular sections of the wall are Badaling and Mutianyu, however if you want to see the Great Wall of China in its authentic form then the Simatai section of the Great wall is definitely a place to visit. There are magnificent views to be seen from the top of wall no matter what the weather is like !
As you can see from the video there were not a lot of tourists to to the Simatai wall that day; this is partly down to the extreme cold weather conditions that Northern China was experiencing.
The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located 120km NE of Beijing. One method of reaching the wall is by bus from Dongzhimen bus station (North East Beijing city centre) to the town of Miyun, and then take a taxi to the wall.
Note it is very important to set off early, as the bus journey by bus takes 1 1/2 hours and the taxi takes a further hour and a quarter.
When you return to Beijing eat at one the excellent restaurants located in Dongzhimen shopping centre.

A video of a climb up the section of the Great Wall of China at Simatai about 80 miles outside Beijing on the border of Hebei Province. A party of climbers from the USA, Brazil, Scotland by way of London, their Chinese guide, and a bevy of Chinese sherpas, made it to the 18th guard tower beyond which the Wall was in ruins and not safe for hiking. Music is a classical Chinese piece called Raindrops on Bamboo Leaves.

Simatai (simplified Chinese: 司马台; traditional Chinese: 司馬臺; pinyin: Sīmǎtái), a section of the Great Wall of China located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing, holds the access to Gubeikou, a strategic pass in the eastern part of the Great Wall. It was closed in June 2010. Some reports have suggested October 1, 2012 as the reopening date.
Originally built during the Northern Qi dynasty (550–577) and rebuilt in the Hongwu years of the Ming dynasty by Qi Jiguang, this section of Great Wall is one of the few to retain the original features of the Ming dynasty Great Wall.
Simatai Great Wall is 5.4 km long with 35 beacon towers. This section of the Great Wall incorporated the different characteristics of each section of the Great Wall. A specialist on the Great Wall, Professor Luo Zhewen, has said "The Great Wall is the best of the Chinese buildings, and Simatai is the best of the Great Wall." UNESCO has designated Simatai Great Wall as one of the World Cultural Heritage sites.

While touring Simatai, a section of the Great Wall that has little to no refurbishing done, I sort of accidentally struck a deal with the manager, despite it being illegal to fly a drone over the wall since 2010. He allowed me to fly it over the wall if I let them use my footage in some potential advertisements. You can read my blog post about it here: http://bit.ly/1PV8LSW This is only a very small part of what I want to do in the future. I plan to return to Simatai to help the manager bring more tourists to the area and of course get more footage to make advertisements and use them in my private videos. There are many places to see the Great Wall of China (it is after all over 6260 km (3890 miles) in length !). The most popular sections of the wall are Badaling and Mutianyu, however if you want to see the Great Wall of China in its authentic form then the Simatai section of the Great wall is definitely a place to visit. There are magnificent views to be seen from the top of wall no matter what the weather is like !
As you can see from the video there were not a lot of tourists to to the Simatai wall that day; this is partly down to the extreme cold weather conditions that Northern China was experiencing.
The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located 120km NE of Beijing. One method of reaching the wall is by bus from Dongzhimen bus station (North East Beijing city centre) to the town of Miyun, and then take a taxi to the wall.
Note it is very important to set off early, as the bus journey by bus takes 1 1/2 hours and the taxi takes a further hour and a quarter.
When you return to Beijing eat at one the excellent restaurants located in Dongzhimen shopping centre.

While touring Simatai, a section of the Great Wall that has little to no refurbishing done, I sort of accidentally struck a deal with the manager, despite it being illegal to fly a drone over the wall since 2010. He allowed me to fly it over the wall if I let them use my footage in some potential advertisements. You can read my blog post about it here: http://bit.ly/1PV8LSW
This is only a very small part of what I want to do in the future. I plan to return to Simatai to help the manager bring more tourists to the area and of course get more footage to make advertisements and use them in my private videos. Filming here has been an incredible experience.

Located in Gubeikou Town northeast of Miyun County, the Simatai Great Wall stretches from Wangjing Tower in the east to Houchuankou Pass in the west. It has 35 beacon towers in all. Divided into eastern and western parts by the Mandarin Duck Late, the Simatai Great Wall is celebrated for its steepness, queerness and intactness. It was included on the World Heritage List in 1987.

In March, 1907, Aurel Stein, a British explorer and adventurer, and his caravan make their way through the Taklimakan desert. Giant ruins grab their attention: it is the Jade Gate, the westernmost point of a more than two-thousand-year-old fortification system. The walls, once built with clay and straw, are barely identifiable in some parts, but the fortification must have had great significance in the past. Travel back in time to around 130 BC. For centuries, belligerent nomads from the north have been raiding, looting and pillaging Chinese settlements. The contrast could not be more pronounced: wild horsemen roaming the desert on the one side, on the other a population of settled farmers. Following a campaign against the "barbarians," Emperor Wudi of the Han dynasty decides to build a wall against the enemies. Construction starts near the location where Aurel Stein would find the ruins of the Jade Gate two thousand years later. Thousands of forced labour convicts were sent to the northwestern part of China, and thousands paid with their lives. Although the wall of the Han Dynasty crumbled into dust, subsequent dynasties built their own walls up to form the stone wall that became a monumental structure and a global icon.
