A Lady Of Letters With Patricia Routledge Part 1
If you've ever wondered how Roy Clarke created ''Hyacinth Bucket'' in ''Keeping Up Appearances'' you should check this out. Here Patricia Routledge gives an outstanding performance as Irene Ruddock, a snobbish single woman that complains and writes non-stop letters to people about how she thinks things should be. Her obbsession with writing letters eventually lands her in prison. You can definitely see the character Hyacinth forming in this. This is like an early rehearsal of Hyacinth. This is an Alan Bennett Talking Heads Monologue which was recorded in 1987 especially for TV. I find it amazing how she can memorise every word. She is truly the greatest actress. I also know how extremely rare this is to find in shops, so I'm more than happy to share this with the rest of the world. I think we all enjoy Patricia Routledge on our televisions which is why I wish she would return to comedy and put theatre on hold for a bit. Enjoy!

In this (very) short episode, Hyacinth is thrilled to hear that a celebrity is visiting her for tea. Needless to say that she is horrified when popular character Mr Blobby causes havoc in the Bucket Residence.

Patricia Routledge "Duet for One" Leonard Bernstein "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" Cleaned
This is one of the great individual performances in the history of musical theater, Patricia Routledge in the monumental flop "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" singing the tour de force "Duet for One". It is the same recording as other Youtube postings, but I cleaned it to issueable level. It is part of a great score that has just been buried under the failure of the production, though Bernstein did resurrect a lot of it in the recording "White House Cantata" (but miscast with opera singers - June Anderson singing this same song you can not tell she's supposed to be two women), some reset lyrics on "Songfest" and a live concert version of some of the score. This is from the Broadway opening, live recorded from the audience apparently, in mono, and cleaned to death from a good source. For comparison the wonderful Judy Kaye recorded with on the "Showstoppers" Angel CD and isn't on the same level with Routledge, who being at core completely an actress isn't afraid to make some very ugly character noises when appropriate. On a level with "Best Pies in London", "Rose's Turn", "Glitter and Be Gay", this performance deserves a better fate. May someone get at and fix the book or may Encores do it with the book slashed and get this score the airing it has deserved since it was first performed.

Self Est is a four day art event exploring contemporary art from alternative backgrounds. This first installment of Self Est (short for Self Established) investigates the study of letterforms and pavement-based education. Self Est presents art created outside the traditional academy that has infiltrated the institution.
These art forms may be self-taught, intuitive or born from marginal activities such as commercial art, graffiti or skateboarding. Taking motivation from these auxiliary artistic pursuits these artists bring unconventional and unique twists to fine art and are being recognised by galleries and institutions.
