Energy Alternative Sources 1978 USDOE
Thirty years ago the extended energy crisis of the 1970's demonstrated the need for unified energy organization and planning in the US. The Department of Energy Organization Act brought the federal government's agencies and programs into a single agency. The Department of Energy, activated on October 1, 1977, provided the framework for a comprehensive and balanced national energy plan by coordinating and administering the energy functions of the federal government. The Department undertook responsibility for long-term, high-risk research and development of energy technology, including alternative sources such as solar wind geothermal and tidal, federal power marketing, energy conservation, energy regulatory programs, and a central energy data collection and analysis program. With the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, the Department has shifted its emphasis away from renewable energy and toward fossil fuels. Sadly, the United States lost 25 years and has just now returned its focus on these renewable alternative energy sources. This is clipped from the late 1970s film, Energy - The American Experience, by the newly created (in 1977) US Department of Energy.

Children's Progress: US Department of Education - IES Overview
This video describes how the Children's Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) was developed and how it works. This award-winning assessment is available for schools, districts and state agencies. Schedule a 45 minute demo to learn more: www.childrensprogress.com *** VIDEO SCRIPT Children's Progress was founded in 1999 at Columbia University. This is where the dynamic pedagogical approach of the Children's Progress Academic Assessment was conceived. The team worked with MIT to design patented assessment technologies to make this dynamic Pre K to 3 math and literacy assessment come to life. After a few years of development and testing, Children's Progress received funding from the Institute of Education Sciences at the US Department of Education to build and expand its products. Today, hundreds of thousands of students and teachers nationwide use Children's Progress products to meet early childhood assessment and instructional needs. So how exactly does Children's Progress make a difference for educators and students? Meet Jane. Jane is a kindergarten teacher. Her mission: to help each of her students succeed! Jane met with her instructional team to plan for the year. With mounting pressures and a slew of responsibilities, they agreed that in order to identify students at risk and differentiate instruction to meet everyone's needs, they first need to figure out where each student is starting out and use that information to plan specific instructional next steps... but How ...

US Department of Energy's Builders Challenge
Spearheaded by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the Builders Challenge is a voluntary effort to provide compelling answers about home performance. Through the Builders Challenge, participating homebuilders will have an easy way to differentiate their best energy-performing homes from other products in the marketplace, and to make the benefits clear to buyers. DOE's ultimate vision is that, by 2030, a consumer will have the opportunity to buy a cost-neutral, net-zero energy home (NZEH) anywhere in the United States — a grid-connected home that, over the course of a year, produces as much energy as it uses. The Builders Challenge establishes a framework for continuous improvement that will help propel the market toward zero-energy performance. The Builders Challenge is based on lessons learned from the Building America Research Program — a private/public partnership that develops energy solutions for new and existing homes. To participate in the Builders Challenge, builders must commit to building homes that meet a 70 on the EnergySmart Home Scale (E-Scale) and a set of quality criteria that ensure occupant safety, health, and comfort, and building durability. For more information on the Builders Challenge, visit www.buildingamerica.gov/challenge.
