Brazil's 183-Mile Nightmare Traffic Jam
Researchers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, have discovered that the average commute in their city is terrible. On a good day traffic stretches 112 miles, and on a bad day - 183 miles! It takes the average commuter 2 hours to travel 10 miles. Local traffic reporter Victoria Hibeiro describes the bumper to bumper traffic at ground level this way: "Chaos, chaos. Every Friday, especially when it's close to a long weekend, at about six o'clock, nobody moves. We have too many cars, too many trucks, too many people. You know, my advice is if you can, don't go out, stay where you are. Please subscribe this channel for interesting videos. Please subscribe this channel for interesting videos.

Commuting - English for Professionals - Lesson 1
New series! English for Professionals Series objective: This series will help those preparing to use English in the workplace as well as those already in the workforce. This is NOT traditional Business English (negotiating, presenting, interviewing, etc.) The lessons in this series will help learners gain confidence in talking about work and work-related matters. Target skills of series: listening, speaking, and vocabulary. Levels: intermediate to advanced. LESSON 1 Topic: Commuting Guest Teacher: Dave Sconda (Scroll down for the transcript.) Note: A downloadable version of this video is available on Vimeo under the name JenniferESL. NOTE: I'm very sorry to announce as of January 2012 links to EnglishCafe will no longer be active due to the site closing. I was very lucky to be a part of that online community while it lasted. I'm also sorry for the loss of additional materials for learners. TEACHERS: Related classroom ideas are posted on my WordPress blog. englishwithjennifer.wordpress.com Also, consider using the following discussion questions as a post-viewing activity: 1. Do you agree or disagree with Dave's views on work? What's the most important thing about a job? What do you value most in your work? 2. Do you agree or disagree with Dave regarding the importance of a commute? Is there any job worth a long commute in your opinion? 3. Do you agree or disagree with Jennifer's views on telecommuting? Is it a good alternative to working in an office? MUSIC CREDIT: "Zx5 ...

Commuter cyclist bike garage @ Cycle 2 City in Brisbane
A world first, combining all the elements of a secure end of trip facility with showers, lockers, towel and laundry service, Park Tool workshop and really good looking staff :) This is the original video I made at low resolution, while I worked there. A combination of my steadicam junior and a wheelbarrow (yes, a wheelbarrow, this was the only way to match the speed by the rider down the ramp) were used during the filming, I appear briefly in the workshop window talking to Wendy - I had Andrew use the camera for this segment - all other filming and post production was done by me. I think the centre is still using the clip on their channel.

How Nokia Drive can make your commute even easier
Nokia Drive (nokia.ly with My Commute learns your driving preferences and uses information about the latest traffic conditions to help you choose between the different routes you usually take to get to the places you travel most. It even remembers when you usually leave, providing traffic updates along your route so you'll know in advance whether there are delays or if you have time to stop by that new café on your way home.

Project Aura: Bicycle Safety Lighting System
Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets. Visibility at night is a vital component of biker safety, hence the need for reflectors and attachable lights. However, some of these devices are not always effective especially from the side.
We created a system that requires very little rider input and maintenance, while increasing the visual footprint of bikers from all directions especially from the side. We accomplished this by expanding the surface area of light emitted through the use of RGB LEDs inside the rims of the wheels that change from red when slowing down to white when at cruising speed.
It should be noted that Project Aura is a lighting system which allows a rider to be seen, but does not replace a forward facing headlight to illuminate the roadway. By law (in Pennsylvania, the laws vary state by state) a front headlamp and rear reflector are required, use of a rear blinky is up to the rider‘s discretion.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your support of this video and all of your messages and comments! I've posted some of my thoughts on the video and its success at http://on.fb.me/HzgMtY and http://facebook.com/chrispzero
Watch in HD with sound on!
Chicago is the first destination for my new series, Places in Time. This piece focuses specifically on downtown Chicago, which was my home for over 6 years until late 2010.
Downtown Chicago has long been an active area - a financial and transportation hub flanked by the lakefront, Grant Park, residential districts and shopping, but the area has evolved rapidly during the last decade and is now more than ever a major residential and tourism center. Between the world class skyline, lakefront, and park space, downtown Chicago offers scenery and an environment not found anywhere else in the non-coastal USA. The central city on an average day contains a blend of office workers, residents, commuters, and a mesh of locals, suburbanites, and tourists who venture in to enjoy the great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.
When I first moved to downtown Chicago in 2003, I lived in one of the only residential buildings in the Chicago Loop. Most businesses shut down after the workday and the area was very quiet at night. Since that time, the number of residents, and all the restaurants, shopping, and entertainment that support them, has grown rapidly in the Loop, South Loop, and West Loop neighborhoods. Living in a rapidly gentrifying area can be frustrating at times, but the transformation of the area in such a short period was nothing short of amazing to witness.
Chicago as a whole has a great energy - one of America's few dense urban environments where people are forced to step out of their isolating cars and experience life alongside one another. The people are mostly genuine, hard working, and friendly. There are countless vibrant neighborhoods with a dramatic range of uniqueness and character. The city changes and transforms during each of the four seasons, but never ceases to be active and full of life.
All footage for this piece was shot between 2010 and now. My goal was to provide a glimpse into the energy and fast paced life of an average day in downtown Chicago, enhanced through fast motion timelapse. Some of the viewpoints and locations may seem familiar, but I've also tried to showcase the city from a number of different and less common vantage points.
Music: The Cinematic Orchestra - Ent'racte.

The Places in Time series will be an ongoing series exploring different locations that I visit. I travel America and the world to create stock photography, timelapses, and other video. Most of my trips have very tight schedules that don't allow me the time to thoroughly explore, but I will be using this series as a reason to delve deeper into destinations and try to capture the real energy and atmosphere of the cities, areas, and countries that I visit.

GoPro rocks, we film Dolphins whilst commuting to work - another Monday morning on Utila
At Utila Dive Centre we love rocking our GoPro's both above and below the water, so this Monday 31st July, whilst observing a pod of Dolphins on our morning scuba diving trip, we couldn't resist mounting our GoPro Hero II in the new underwater housing, to the bow of our dive boat. The camera sits underwater with the GoPro extension mounts, and we managed to get some awesome footage of these Dolphins riding with the bow of our boat. If you fancy scuba diving in the Caribbean Bay Islands of Utila then come join us for the best time both above and below the water!

Ultimate commuter bike
This is the bicycle I equipped for commuting last year. I love this bike, and ride it to work year round in Chicago in all weather. I bought the frameset used on Craigslist and built this commuter bicycle from ground up. I am a pretty demanding bike commuter who has owned 7 bicycles in the past 4 years, but this is my all time favorite bike. Please post a comment, 'like' this video and subscribe to my channel! I'll be posting more excellent cycling-related videos here. The frame on this bike is a Fuji Touring, and was pretty scratched up when I got it since the last owner had used it for cyclocross racing. My build has more of a touring / commuting / utility bike character. Despite the surface scratches, it is a solid, heavy-duty frame made of cromoly 4130 steel. This Fuji is a true touring bike and it excels at hauling weight. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it across the US (or anywhere else for that matter). Since the original finish of the bike had been damaged before I bought it, I didn't mind adding some red spray paint to 'uglify' it to make theft less likely (I lock this bicycle to bike racks all over Chicago...). These are some of the components: Fuji Touring, Elios 2 Cromoly frame Dura Ace bar end shifters Velocity Dyad rims DT Swiss Competition spokes 2.0/1.8 Shimano Deore XT hubs Schwalbe Marathon tires Brooks Champion Flyer saddle Tubus Logo rear rack Aluminum front racks Update: I recently bought and installed Velo Orange safety skewers to add some extra ...
