Flemish parlementarians beaten by French Walloon riot police
A peacefull demonstration against the islamisation of Europe was violently beaten apart and stopped. Flemish members of parliament of the bigest Flemish party have been beaten and molested by a Walloon French speaking riot police. This is unseen violence against peacefull demonstrators and elected parlementarians. This can not be the direction of Europe. This is a huge leap backwards in democracy and into the dawning new middle ages of Islam. Every citizen in Europe and the free World must protest now, because tomorrow it might be your turn loosing your democratic right and freedom to the islamisation and caviar socialism and neo communism. I call upon you, wherever you're from, to protest also by no longer buying products of Brussels and French speaking Wallonia, and not to invest mony anymore in this communist behaving region with securitate police. Flemish Ethical Investing against repression. We Flemish deserve finally our independance and freedom. A people becoming a State!

Making Flemish beef pot roast and french fries
This movie is part of the 6556 multimedia project of 'Maks!' See www.6556.be 6556 kilometres. The distance between Brussels and Nairobi. The website 6556.be bridges that enormous distance with one click of your mouse. Maks! visited four schools in Kenya, each with a link with a Flemish school. We visited young people and teachers from those partner schools. Discover the differences and similarities for yourself. In the clips, the slide shows and the articles. Nearly everything on the site is available in English and Dutch. As such, it is a gateway through which young people in Kenya and in Flanders can meet each other.

Belgians divided by language barrier - 23 Sep 07
Failure by Belgium's political parties to form a government since elections in June have prompted fears of a split in the tiny European country. Al Jazeera's Tania Page reports from Belgium, where the country is seen as roughly divided between the Dutch-speakers in the North and the mainly Franco-phone population in the south.

DV 53. Flemish Folk-Songs at the North Sea sung by dominique dv
It was in last August, Sunday 3th (and not on the 4th like written on the video), we went to the North Sea for only 1 € per person on the railway. Some summer days the regional railway company has its days of goodness. There were much wind as you can see. So that we can hear it on the video, you shall get also the sound of the waves and my voice singing these folk-songs of french flemish country which Edmond de Coessemaker was written down from the popular mouthly tradition in the middle of the 19th century. He put them in a book named "Chants populaires des flamands de France". I cannot all the words by heart, so that I'm sometimes singing only the tune, all a capella. You can hear : "Wel Island geen bedroefde kust", a song about the women waiting on their husband gone to the Island fishing, a shepherd song about Cecilia and Florian, "Ik zaa Cecilia komen", a song which sounds a little like "The Moldau" of Smetana, some joke songs like "Jan, mijnen man" and "Jan de mulder" and "Een kalamenden ook", the bell song of Dunkerque, the town from which you see the beach of Malo-les-Bains at the high tide, and the fotos of sea-birds I made just before. Dunkerque is the most Northern town of France, at 51° North, and means Duinkerke which means Church of the Dunes. These songs are also popular in North of Belgium where they have the same tradition.

Flemish Theatre Reaches Out to French-Speaking Audiences
Belgium has long been divided by two competing national identities, which has led to tensions between the more affluent Flemish-speaking north, and the less affluent French-speaking south. Traditionally, Belgium's two national theaters have served two distinctly separate linguistic communities. But the Royal Flemish Theater in Brussels has been trying to bridge that divide, by reaching out to Francophone audiences, and giving marginalized voices a stage on which to perform. From Brussels, Nina-Maria Potts reports.

Bruges, Belgium: The Art of Flemish Fries
French fries, called Flemish fries in northern Dutch-speaking Belgium, are a local specialty. They taste so good because they're deep-fried twice — once to cook and once to brown. To eat like a local add mayonnaise, not ketchup. For more information on the Rick Steves' Europe TV series — including episode descriptions, scripts, participating stations, travel information on destinations and more — visit www.ricksteves.com.

Belgium: The Endless Language Dispute | European Journal
Another Belgian government has just collapsed because of a dispute over language. The coalition headed by Prime Minister Yves Leterme lasted just five months. The break-up comes only a few weeks before Belgium is due to take over the rotating EU presidency. The long-simmering spat centers around Francophone Belgians living in the Dutch-speaking suburbs around the capital. Some French speakers there continue to refuse to learn Dutch. But Flemish politicians insist that Dutch is the only official language in those areas. Francophone mayors who sent out election notices in French have not been confirmed in office. And soon anyone wishing to buy a house in the suburbs around Brussels may have to prove that they can speak Dutch fluently. The gulf between French-speaking Walloons and the Dutch-speaking Flemish continues to grow.

Belgium Divided
April 2008 The nation's politicians are bickering over an issue that's plagued the country since its creation in 1830: how do you reconcile the French speaking Walloons in the south and the Dutch speaking Flemish in the north? How can you have national co-operation when the people who make up the nation don't share a common language let alone read the same newspapers, watch the same television or vote for the same politicians? Asked "What is Belgium actually for?" those on the Flemish far right have a devastating answer. "Belgium in my opinion is an occupier, because basically it was created to let the French culture dominate the Dutch culture, so in my opinion it's an occupier." That's the opinion of the new leader of the Flemish far-right, Bruno Valkeniers. The conflict even intrudes into the celebrity show biz media. Minutes after being crowned Miss Belgium, Alizee Poulicek, a French speaker, stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine and into the fire of the separatist debate. Asked an innocuous question in Flemish (Dutch), she was unable to reply. Booed by the crowd she was pilloried by the Dutch language press as being representative of the arrogance displayed by French speaking Belgians. Ms Poulicek has seen the linguistic light and confides in Epstein that actually she's very keen, "to learn Dutch and to do a lot of things on the Dutch side of the country and with Dutch people... and I have to do my best to try to speak Dutch." Produced by ABC Australia ...

DV 55. Flemish Folk-Songs and sea-birds
Here on this video I made the film and was singing at the same time behind the camera. You can see also the sea-birds and hear the song of the flemish country. One can hear me, but not see me. The folk-songs of the flemish people of the North of France, were collected in the book "Chansons populaires des flamands de France" (folk-songs of the french flames) by Edmond de Coessemaker in the 19th century.

Laïs - A Clymène
Laïs - The Ladies' Second Song www.musicmail.be www.myspace.com en.wikipedia.org In 1994 Laïs was born; a group of three girls singing songs that grew straight from their Flemish folk roots and evolved with them through their own unique sound. 'Unique' in fact is a good word for these girls, since they have always done things their own way, setting up many surprises for their audiencies at gigs in and around Belgium, such as the Folk Dranouter and the Rock Werchter festival. Jorunn Bauweraerts, Annelies Brosens and Nathalie Delcroix have sculpted their own path, taking risks and finding exciting new ways to present themselves. With 'The Ladies' Second Song' -- their fourth album -- Laïs have taken yet another new direction. This time they have picked up their words from such greats as WB Yeats, Paul Verlaine and Pablo Neruda to work with instead. For the first time they have written some lyrics of their own and even added a rich electronic sound to their music to top it all off. Dan Lacksman (from Telex) did the mixing and together they worked on something new and innovative (still, of course, keeping folk at the core).
