DGCA summons Mallya; flying licence may be cancelled- NewsX
Kingfisher Airlines faces the prospects of its flying licence being cancelled. The DGCA has asked Kingfisher chairman Vijay Mallya to present a clear picture of the cash-strapped private carrier. The DGCA is mulled tough action after the airline submitted it's summer flight schedule with just 16 aircraft as against 28 last month. DGCA has also taken notice of Kingfisher's paucity of funds to run daily operations. The beleaguered airline was served a show cause notice last month, asking why its licence should not be suspended for making unannounced cancellations. The 15-day mandatory notice period has already lapsed and they have failed to give a valid reason. For info log onto: alpha.newsx.com

False hijack alarm: DGCA seeks report from Thiruvananthapuram airport
Angry passengers aboard a Abu Dhabi-Kochi Air India Express flight on Friday triggered high drama at Thiruvananthapuram airport, Kerala. The woman pilot called in a hijack alert after a few passengers allegedly tried to barge into the cockpit. The passengers were upset that the flight had been redirected to Thiruvananthapuram due to bad weather. What followed was almost right out of a movie, with security forces swooping in to surround the aircraft, and some passengers resisting attempts by security men to board the plane. Sources say that in a complaint letter, the woman pilot alleged she was threatened by some passengers, but police sources say prima facie, it was mishandling by Air India which worsened the situation.

DGCA to wait for KFA report - NewsX
Dark skies loom ahead for India's floundering civil aviation industry amid massive losses reported by all but one airline, spiralling costs of turbine fuel and a rising revenue-expenses gap. Two of India's biggest airlines are frailing too. On one hand the Maharaja Air India that once soared tall is set to undergo a trifurcation. On the other, good times have long ended for Kingfisher where employees are demanding payment of at least four months salary immediately out of seven months pay due to them. Kingfisher has to satisfy DGCA: Ajit Singh
Cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines employees resumed work on Friday after striking a deal with the management and agreeing to the staggered salary payment schedule proposed by the company. Reports said that many of them have received the salary for the month of March. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that the airline has to satisfy the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and paying salaries is not enough. "How can I tell you what they would present to DGCA only they would know what he will present. They have to satisfy the DGCA that they have a viable operation plan. They have just paid salaries but there are many dues on Kingfisher be it tax or any other thing," said Ajit.

KFA to fly by Oct 5, DGCA wants safety assurance
Trouble also continues for Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines. A day after its flights were grounded by a strike, Kingfisher CEO Sanjay Agarwal met the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and promised to restart operations by Friday. Agarwal also explained the partial lockout at the DGCA office. Kingfisher has promised to restart operations by Friday. For that to happen employees who've gone without salaries for over seven months will need to be paid. Kingfisher says its confident that the Income Tax department will defreeze its accounts, releasing Rs 60 crore to tide over the current crisis. But this will cover just part of the dues. Agarwal said, "We will take a call on resumption of services on the October 4."

DGCA issues show-cause notice to Kingfisher - NewsX
In more trouble for Kingfisher Airlines, aviation regulator DGCA issued a show-cause notice asking why its flying license should not be suspended or cancelled as it had grounded its entire fleet and failed to offer safe and reliable service. With the liquor baron Vijay Mallya-owned airline having declared a lockout till October 12, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued the notice to the crisis-ridden carrier, giving it 15 days to reply. In the notice, DGCA Chief Arun Mishra said it had been observed that the airline was not adhering to its flight schedule and "abruptly cancelling their flights time and again during the last 10 months", causing great inconvenience to the travelling public. Kingfisher Airlines asks for more time to reply to DGCA notice, extends lockout to Oct 23
All eyes are on Kingfisher Airlines which faces suspension of its license on Saturday after it failed to reply to any of the questions posed in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) show cause notice. Instead, the airline has asked for time to reply in person to the notice. The DGCA is mulling what steps should be taken next with a team of legal experts. A decision is likely to be taken in the next few days. DGCA sources said that they are unlikely to cancel Kingfisher Airline's license. Meanwhile, no resolution seems to be in sight to the airline's deadlock with its striking employees. In a statement, the debt-ridden airline announced that that it has extended it's ongoing lockout to October 23. Meanwhile, Kingfisher itself remains hopeful of being able to resume operations by November. In a statement issued, it said, "Kingfisher Airlines Ltd has extended the partial lockout until October 23, 2012. We had a positive meeting with employee representatives on October 17 and are hopeful of reaching common ground when we meet again next week. Currently, we anticipate resuming operations on November 6, subject to our resumption plan being reviewed and approved by the DGCA."
