Frankenwald
The Frankenwald (Franconian Forest) is a mid-altitude mountain range in Northern Bavaria, Germany. It is located in the district of Upper Franconia (Oberfranken) and forms the geological connection between the Fichtelgebirge and the Thuringian Forest. It is a broad well-wooded plateau, running for about 45 kilometers (30 miles) in a northwesterly direction, descending gently on the north and eastern sides towards the Saale river, but more precipitously to the Bavarian plain in the west, and attaining its highest elevation in the Döbraberg near Schwarzenbach am Wald (794 meters). Along the centre lies the watershed between the basins of the Main and the Saale, belonging to the systems of the Rhine and Elbe respectively.

Von der Industriebrache zum farbenfrohen und lebendigen Parkjuwel: Der Landesgartenschau-Park liegt zu Füßen der Festung Rosenberg, am südlichen Rand der über tausendjährigen Altstadt von Kronach. Dort, wo sich die Flüsse Haßlach und Kronach mit der Rodach vereinen, können Besucher von Nah und Fern eine 17 Hektar große weitläufige Parkanlage mit vielfältigen Angeboten erleben und genießen. Das war nicht immer so. Noch in den 1990er Jahren bildete das Gelände einen innerstädtischen Problembereich mit einem unansehnlichen Gewerbegebiet und massiven Umweltproblemen. Damit aus diesem belasteten Areal ein attraktiver Lebens- und Naturraum werden konnte, schulterte die Stadt Kronach für das Jahr der Landgartenschau 2002 eine der größten Altlastensanierungen, die in Bayern je durchgeführt wurde. Züge auf der Frankenwaldbahn: Hier seht ihr die BR 212 274-5 der DB auf Solofahrt und BR 101 124-6 mit dem ex Metropolitan IC bei der Durchfahrt der Haltestelle Gundeldorf (Kronach). Die 212er war Richtung Kronach unterwegs und der IC kam von München und fuhr Richtung Berlin. Besonders gefreut habe ich mich über die 212er, da diese Lok eigentlich nicht mehr eingesetzt wird. Über Kommentare und Bewertungen würde ich mich sehr freuen!
Kronach leuchtet 2009

Kronach is the birthtown of Lucas Cranach the Elder and Maximilian von Welsch, as well as Johann Kaspar Zeuss and Josef Stangl. The town is equipped with a nearly complete city-wall and Germany's biggest medieval fortress (Festung Rosenberg). The headquarters of German television and AV equipment manufacturer, Loewe, is located here. The rivers Haßlach, Kronach and Rodach unite in Kronach.
History
In 1634 during the Thirty Years' War the town was successfully defended against a German Swedish army with the help of the town women. During the first world war this was the site of an Officers' Prisoner of War camp.
