Kurama-dera (鞍馬寺) Temple, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan
Kurama Temple (Kurama-dera 鞍馬寺), is located north of Kyoto City on Mt. Kurama (鞍馬山, about 1800 feet above the sea level) and is about 12 kilometers from the center of Kyoto City. It can be reached in 30 minutes from Kyoto by car or train. I suggest use the Train (Eizan Railways Kurama Train), to enjoy the scenic ride. Watch my video of this ride to the temple. The Kurama Temple (鞍馬寺), founded in 770 as the guardian of the northern quarter of the capital city (Heiankyo), is located halfway up the Mt. Kurama. The temple formerly belonged to the Tendai sect of Buddhism, but since 1949, it has been included in the newly founded Kurama-Kokyo sect as its headquarters. The trek up to the temple is beautiful and picturesque, although you can take a cable car also up to the temple. Mt. Kurama is the only temple, in the entire Kyoto City area is said to inhabit a rattle snake type snake called "Mamushi" in Japanese. Coming across the trekkers with the snake is not very common but the temple officials warn the travelers to leave them alone, if you see them. The main temple is only half the way up Mt. Kurama, so trekking enthusiasts to this temple, can try a further up the mountain trek, which is also very interesting with many little shrines and temples. The trek actually ends, at Kibune Shrine, which is away from the Kurama Temple. Good thing is that at Kibune Shrine, you can hop on the Eizan Railways train back to the Kyoto City. I did half of this trek, please watch my ...

Riding a Train to Mt. Kurama (鞍馬山), Kyoto Prefecture
Mt. Kurama (鞍馬山) is located north of Kyoto City and about 30 minutes car ride from the center of Kyoto City. But you can take a scenic train ride on Eizan Railway's (京阪電鉄) Kurama Train from Demachiyanagi train station to Kurama Station (鞍馬駅) in the northeast of Kyoto City. Mt. Kurama is known for Kuramadera temple (鞍馬寺) and the Kurama Onsen (Hot springs). Both Kuramadera temple and Kurama Onsen (鞍馬温泉) are popular with all tourists but Kuramadera temple with foreigners and the Onsen with the Japanese tourists. But I believe Japanese love both the temple and the Onsen. In any case, Mt. Kurama is the only mountain in Kyoto City is known to have plenty of dangerous snakes called "Mamushi". But usually they are not visible to typical touristy types, so it is harmless to trek and visit the Mt. Kurama. None of the other mountains around Kyoto have any type of snakes or even any dangerous animals. Usually this train to Mt. Kurama is pretty crowded and there is a lot of pushing and jostling during a typical train ride, so I took the earliest train possible to get a good video of the ride. The train ride is pretty awesome during fall foliage time. I did the train ride after a little bit after the foliage season. Nonetheless it was awesome. Kurama station is the gateway for your travels to Mt. Kurama in Kyoto City. Hope you get a chance to visit it. Enjoy..

Silent Waterfall near Raigoin Temple (来迎院), Kyoto Prefecture
This silent water fall is located near Raigoin Temple (らいごういん) in Ohara city in Kyoto prefecture, Japan. Apparently long time ago, the priest at this temple was annoyed with the waterfall being loud while the students are chanting and ordered the waterfall to be silent. Since then the waterfall has become silent. But as you can see the waterfall is not silent. But I think the water when it is falling over the rocks is probably silent but does make noise when it hits the water below. I think the way the rocks are chiseled makes the water to flow silently until it hits the water puddle below.

Bamboo Groves of Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture
The famous "Bamboo Groves" of Arashiyama is a must visit, if you are in Kyoto City. A stroll through these groves, you will probably tell yourself many many times that you have never seen anything like this. Atleast I did. Western part of Japan is known for it's Bamboo Forests and this one in Arashiyama is one of the best and contains hundreds of bamboo trees probably many many years old. These groves are a few minutes walk from the center of the Arashiyama district (from train and bus stations) and visit to this you will never forget. Enjoy!!!

Keihan Railway Uji Station (京阪宇治駅), Train Stations of Japan, Kyoto Prefecture
Keihan Railway Uji station (京阪宇治駅) is the gateway to the romantic Uji City (宇治市). To get to Uji City, you can also take JR Nara Train to JR Uji Station but Keihan Railway Uji Station is closer to all the temples and other tourist attractions than JR Uji Station. Uji city, which is the place where much of the last chapters of "Tale of Genji" takes place, also has two great temples Byodoin Temple and Mimurotoji Temple. While Byodoin temple's Phoenix Hall picture is on the ten yen coin, Mimurotoji temple is one of the Kannon Temples in the Saikoku 33 Kannon temple Pilgrimage. Watch my videos of both these temples and also about Uji city. Enjoy.

SanzenIn Temple 三千院(Part II) - Inside the Temple Precincts, Ohara, Kyoto Prefecture
This is the Part II of my video about SanzenIn Temple (三千院) . In this part I will provide a view of the Temple precincts. SanzenIn Temple is located in the Ohara village (京都大原). Ohara area (大原) is located in the northern suburbs of the Kyoto city. SanzenIn Temple was originally established as a hermitage by Dengyo Daishi Saicho, who is the founder of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. The temple, also known as Kajii Monzeki or Nashimoto Monzeki, is one of the five Tendai Monzeki temples and certain members of the imperial family served here in the priesthood throughout the temple's history. The temple precincts are located on the side of a small mountain. There are various temples in the precincts that are dedicated to the Amitabha trinity, Fudo MyoO Acalantha and Kannon Avalokiteshwara. There is a Buddha statue carved out of rock in the middle of the temple precincts. SanzenIn temple is known for it's moss garden, which is a must watch during the rainy season. Enjoy!!!

Sagano Romantic Train (嵯峨野観光鉄道) in Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture
"Sagano Romantic Train" operated by Sagano Scenic Railway (嵯峨野観光鉄道) (wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Railways West). This ride from Saga Arashiyama (トロッコ嵯峨駅) to Kameoka (トロッコ亀岡駅) Town (further west of Arashiyama) is deemed as the most scenic ride in the entire Japan. This track was once used as a backup to another JR line but since it was decommissioned as a regular train traffic, it has been revitalized as a scenic ride for the visitors to Arashiyama (嵐山). The whole ride goes right next to Hozu River and consists of beautiful views of mountains, gorges, old bridges and of course the foliage. The stations on this ride are called "Torokko (トロッコ)", which means Truck in Japanese because this track was once used by the mining trucks. So the ride goes from "Torokko Saga Station (トロッコ嵯峨駅)" to "Torokko Kameoka Station (トロッコ亀岡駅)" via the beautiful Hozu river gorge. I took this video when I did the ride myself, but since it was crowded (during the fall foliage), there was a lot of pushing and jostling inside the train. I did my best to capture some parts of the ride but trust me, the views were definitely breathtaking. Hope you get a chance to enjoy the ride when you visit Kyoto city.

こねこ ♥ ダーリング Life in Japan 11 - Tango: The OTHER Side of Kyoto-fu
First of all, thanks SO much for all the comments, views, and subscriptions! ^__^ People requested more videos of the Japanese countryside, so I decided to provide! Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Tango (pronounced TAHN-GO) area! I apologize if the driving sequences were drawn out. My family really enjoys them, I like using them as a transition scene, and it really shows how much driving you have to do out here! Feel free to skip through them if you'd rather. There are still so many places I plan to visit and film in the Tango region. If you like nature, this is a very beautiful area to visit in Kyoto Prefecture! Please don't just limit yourself to Kyoto City!
