Plot
Four students drag a black student through the woods. They hang a noose on a barren tree and lynch him. It is October 2008. Downtown, Detective Haven (Louis Gossett Jr.) and FBI Agent Long (Keith David) interrogate four students about the lynching: Rose Torrance (Davetta Sherwood), Garret Perrin (Matthew Koenig), Valerie Davis (Danielle Fishel), and Hazem Seif (Ibrahim Ashmawey). In the backdrop of the presidential election, a group of college students find themselves embroiled in violence. What began as isolated incidents of nooses hung on campus escalates into blatantly racist fraternity parties and, ultimately, a series of racially-instigated murders. In a consciously-shifting society, where modern-day racism and racial tensions have seeped into all cultures - white, black, Middle Eastern, Asian - the characters come to the harsh reality that there are no "sides" in life, and that if pushed far enough, everyone is racist.

Ukraine protests 2014: A video of a man dressed in nothing but socks and shoes in freezing weather being tormented by Berkut special forces, has embarrassed the Ukrainian government. This one-minute video apparently shot on Thursday and published by Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda shows a detained Kiev protester stripped naked in 14 degree Fahrenheit weather (-10 centigrade) being hit, jeered and humiliated by officers. Uniformed officers slap the man and forced him to hold a tool while another takes photographs. As the man makes his way onto a bus, a balaclava-clad officer kicks him in the back of the leg. In a statement, the interior ministry apologized and said an investigation is underway, describing the incident as unacceptable. It comes as fighting between anti-government protesters and police in the capital Kiev reached a new intensity this week. Ukraine: Thousands gather to farewell killed Belarusian protester

Thousands of Ukrainians, including opposition leaders Vitali Klitschko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Oleg Tyagnybok, attended the funeral procession on Sunday for Mikhail Zhiznevsky, a 25-year-old Belarusian protester killed on January 22, in Kiev. Masked members of the Ukrainian National Assembly-Ukrainian People's Self-Defense organization carried the coffin from St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery and through the crowd, who chanting "Hero!" in Ukrainian as the procession passed. After the church service the mourning procession headed to Independence Square where tens of thousands of people gathered to pay tribute. Zhiznevsky was one of two protesters who died from gunshot wounds on Wednesday, January 22.

Police have clashed again with protesters surrounding the International Convention Center, also known as Ukrainian House, on on the Kiev's European Square. Anger boiled over into violence a week ago over harsh new anti-protest laws that Yanukovych pushed through parliament. Protesters have seized government buildings in scores of other cities in the European-leaning western part of the country. Protest leaders have demanded Yanukovych step down and call early elections. The decision of occupy Ukrainian House on 25 Jan. came hours after the head of the country's police, widely despised by the opposition, claimed protesters had seized and tortured two policemen before releasing them. The opposition denied any such seizure and claimed Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko was making a bogus claim in order to justify a police sweep against protesters.

Several hundred protesters are camped out in tents around the walls of Government House in Bangkok. According to Reuters, the shots could have come from a car as it drove past the protest site at around 3:30 a.m. Witnesses said they were sleeping when gunfire suddenly rang at that time. A man in his 30s had been killed and four others suffered gunshot wounds. The shooting came 48 hours after clashes between Thai police and about 500 protesters in which two people were killed. Anti-government protesters have been rallying for weeks in an attempt to topple Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Yingluck is considered as a puppet of her brother, former premier Thaksin Shinawatra. Yingluck dissolved the nation's parliament this month and called for new elections in an effort to cool tensions. However, the protesters have vowed to disrupt the election, which will be held on February 2. The protesters reportedly want an appointed "people's council" to oversee reforms instead of an election.
