Turkana Famine
While a lot of international attention has been focussed at the drought situation in Somalia, the situation in Kenya is also worsening. One person died in Loitanit in Turkana North due to lack of food and aid agencies are warning that the situation could get out of hand as there are so many people, especially children that are severely malnourished. This comes as the Kenya Red-Cross estimates that the drought is highly likely to persist until July next year. Andrew Ochieng has just returned from Turkana and here is his report.

PAC Wants Kimunya, Ndung'u Fired Over Delarue
Transport Minister Amos Kimunya and Central Bank of Kenya Governor Professor Njuguna Ndung'u are in trouble, again. This is after the Public Accounts Committee in a report declared them unfit to hold public office over their reported role in the loss of some 1.8 billion shillings through the controversial De la Rue currency printing deal. The committee chaired by Ikolomani MP Bonny Khalwale has also called for the termination of Professor Ndungu's contract and asked the CBK boss to step aside immediately. Four years ago, Kimunya was adversely mentioned in the controversial sale of the Laico Regency Hotel to Libyan investors, following a deal struck by the former owner of the hotel Kamlesh Patni and the Central Bank under the watch of Prof Ndung'u. Kimunya's was eventually cleared, as Abdi Osman reports.

Kamukunji By Election
In what was perhaps the first session of its kind in Kenya's election history, voters had an opportunity to meet face - to - face with candidates for the kamukunji parliamentary seat, for a question - and - answer session. The forum featured a five - minute presentation by all candidates on their agenda for the constituency, and organizers plan to stage similar sessions across the country ahead of next year's general election. But even as the campaigns continued, an aspirant from the national vision party moved to court, seeking an injunction stopping the vote, on the grounds that he was denied an opportunity by the iiec to present his nomination papers. Chris Wangombe with that story.

NFD Frontier
So it's the second referendum ever to be held in Kenya that has finally given the country a new constitution. But do you know for people of north eastern Kenya this is the third referendum they ever participated in? Well, it was not about a constitution when they held the first referendum in 1962, but seceding from Kenya. Hussein Mohamed caught up with some of the men who were in the front line in the futile bloody secession struggle, as they recount the past and look forward to the future, in the wake of a new constitution.

KHRC And Murugi On Gay Rights
Special Programmes Minister Esther Murugi says she has no apologies to make over her remarks on acknowledging the existence of homosexuals and lesbians which has sparked uproar. Murugi stated that unless HIV programmes target this group, the gap of new HIV infections can never be closed. Gay and lesbian coalition program manager David Kuria says besides being ignored in HIV prevention messages, these individuals are often discriminated by health service providers.

Aircraft Testing
Another story now that should inspire kenyans as we celebrate mashujaa day. Over 2 weeks ago, we brought you the story of an it specialist who has been assembling an aircraft in his backyard in kahawa west estate in the outskirts of nairobi. Last week, gabriel nderitu devoted his time and money to the crucial ground trials in some sort of a runway in kangundo, optimistic that his brain child will lift from the ground. Unfortunately, the aircraft failed to take off. But as sylvia chebet reports, the story is about nderitu's sheer determination, commitment and never-say-die spirit that should serve as an example to many kenyans.

Green Card Holders
It is the dream of many Kenyans to work and live in the United States of America and one of the ways through which you could find your way there is through the green card lottery. The lottery is on now and the US Embassy in Nairobi is set to give that status to about 3000 Kenyans. But before you embark on the application process, have you ever asked yourself whether it is worth it or not? Alex Chamwada is back from the US, where he spent time with Kenyans who re-located there, thanks to the green card and filed the following report on their experiences.

Kidnappings
Cases of kidnappings have been on the rise in the recent past across Kenya. Targeting not only the well off, but even ordinary Kenyans. While the media reports just a few of the cases, many others go un-highlighted, with many families parting with thousands if not millions of shillings in ransom to rescue their loved ones. While the police admit that there is a challenge with dealing with this modern day crime, there are some things that you can do if you found yourself in such a situation. Here is Sheila Sendeyo with some tips on what you should or shouldn't do in case of a kidnapping incident.

Anti-Drought Success Story : Dertu Village
Had the Kenyan government ambitiously embarked on implementing strategies geared towards the achievement of millennium development goals by 2015 as envisaged, the severe drought that is now ravaging parts of the country would have had a minimal impact on food production. And at least one village in Garissa County can attest to this. Dertu village has survived three subsequent seasons of failed rains, even as neighbouring villages suffered devastating effects of drought that has swept away herds of livestock while threatening to claim human lives. Sylvia Chebet visited the village and brings us its success story.

Newsmakers 2010: Raila Odinga
Prime minister Raila Odinga has had a colourful year 2010, what with all the unfolding political developments such as the passing of a new constitution and the hefty exchanges of political blows following the naming of the Ocampo six, but beneath the power suits and powerful speeches is another Raila Odinga. Abdi Osman travelled to Bondo and met a humble farmer and family man who mixes with extended relatives and staff with ease as he goes about life in his rural backyard.
