Tuesday, October 30, 2012, Larry Cushshon passed away at the Life Care Center of Waynesville at the age of 86.  Beloved husband of the late Bertha, dear father of Larry, Steven, Reginald, Harold, Karen and Michael who preceded his death.  

Hattie V. Sain Utley was born May 16, 1924 to the late Elige and Clara Glenn Sain. She was the youngest of four children. A sister, Melvinna Sain, and a brother, Jenrette Sain Barnett, preceded her in death.

A diverse group of students representing the St. Louis Chapter of the Black Data Processing Associates earned 2^nd place in the High School Computer competition at the 2012 National BDPA conference held recently in Baltimore, Maryland.

Last week the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department unveiled a new feature on the department website, www.slmpd.org. Citizens can now access downloaded crime files for the city of St. Louis, free of charge, via the website.

Statewide voters in Missouri returned control of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to city government on Tuesday, passing Proposition A by more than 700,000 votes. It won 1,610,427 votes (63.9 percent) to 910,295 votes (36.1 percent).

Democratic Missouri Gov. Jay has won a second term, beating Republican St. Louis businessman Dave Spence.

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) is all set for victory in her re-election bid versus Rep. Todd Akin (R). The projections, courtesy of major news organizations such as CNN, CBS and NBC, show McCaskill with a sizable lead even though ballots are still being tallied as of 9:37 p.m.

According to the Associated Press, a pregnant suburban Chicago woman didn't let being in labor stop her from voting in a presidential election for the first time.

President Barack Obama closed down his campaign late Monday with a nostalgia-filled rally in Iowa. He’ll spend Election Day in his hometown of Chicago, making his last appeals to voters in satellite interviews rather than a final flurry of campaign rallies.

In a 90 second video op-ed for USA Today President Obama expressed why his re-election is so important as voters head to the polls tomorrow (Tues., Nov. 6). In the video he promises to be a champion for the middle-class and continue towards the change he feels is necessary for the nation to recover as well as pointed out successes that America experienced during his first term.

According to KSDK.com, St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings Foundation is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in Hurricane Sandy disaster relief.

There is change in the air at the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. And this is not about Proposition R on city ballots in the November 6 election, which will give city voters the chance to downsize the Board of Aldermen from 28 wards and aldermen to 14. If 60 percent of city voters approve this amendment to the City Charter, after the next census – in 10 years – the city would be redrawn into 14 wards with 14 aldermen.

St. Louis County Library will introduce a new Winter Reading Club starting November 1. The overwhelming popularity of SLCL’s summer reading clubs prompted the new club, which will run from November 1 until December 31. All ages are invited to participate in the Winter Reading Club, whose theme is “Warm Up with Reading.”

Savannah Miller Young, was born Anna Maria Miller to the union of Willie Miller and Julia Hibbler Miller on January 12, 1937 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Keeping in the tradition of her Catholic faith, Savannah was originally named at birth for two important members of the Holy Family, Anna, the mother of Mary, and Mary, the mother of Christ. Her paternal grandmother was named Savannah and she began calling her granddaughter by her own name, and eventually the name stuck.

Douglass Adam Green, (T.J.), age 34, a resident of Belleville, IL departed this life on Thursday, October 25, 2012. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his parents:  Alvin and Sherry Green; one sister,  Sherrika Green; and a host of aunts, uncles,  a niece, cousins, other relatives and friends.
