List of Latin-script digraphs

This is a list of digraphs used in various Latin alphabets. Capitalization involves only the first letter (ch – Ch) unless otherwise stated (ij – IJ).

Letters with diacritics are arranged in alphabetic order according to their base. That is, ⟨å⟩ is alphabetized with ⟨a⟩, not at the end of the alphabet as it would be in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. Substantially modified letters such as ⟨ſ ⟩ (a variant of ⟨s⟩) and ⟨ɔ⟩ (based on ⟨o⟩) are placed at the end.

Apostrophe

⟨’b⟩ (capital ⟨’B⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ɓ/.

⟨’d⟩ (capital ⟨’D⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ɗ/.

⟨’y⟩ (capital ⟨’Y⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ʔʲ/. It is also used for this sound in the Hausa language in Nigeria, but in Niger, Hausa ⟨’y⟩ is replaced with ⟨ƴ ⟩.

A

⟨a’⟩ is used in Taa orthography, where it represents the glottalized or creaky-voiced vowel /a̰/.

⟨aa⟩ is used in the orthographies of Dutch, Finnish and other languages with phonemic long vowels for /aː/. It was formerly used in Danish and Norwegian (and still is in some proper names) for the sound /ɔ/, now spelled ⟨å⟩.

Sōkan

Sōkan (僧官) is the Japanese system of rankings for Buddhist clergy. There are three ranks, collectively known as Sōgō (僧綱), comprising ten categories or levels, followed by a series of titles known collectively as sōi (僧位). Each of the three ranks is known by an abridged form; monks or priests are often referred to by their rank, rather than their specific title.

Simon & Garfunkel

Simon & Garfunkel was an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. They were one of the most popular recording artists of the 1960s and became counterculture icons of the decade's social revolution, alongside artists such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan. Their biggest hits—including "The Sound of Silence" (1964/1965), "Mrs. Robinson" (1968), "Bridge over Troubled Water" (1969), and "The Boxer" (1969)—reached number one on singles charts worldwide. Their often rocky relationship led to artistic disagreements, which resulted in their breakup in 1970. Their final studio record, Bridge over Troubled Water, was their most successful, becoming one of the world's best-selling albums. Since their split in 1970 they have reunited several times, most famously in 1981 for the "The Concert in Central Park", which attracted more than 500,000 people, the seventh-largest concert attendance in history.

Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate (シュタインズ・ゲート, Shutainzu Gēto) is a Japanese visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus and released for the Xbox 360 on October 15, 2009. It is the second game in 5pb. and Nitroplus' Science Adventure series following Chaos;Head and is succeeded by Robotics;Notes. The game was ported to Windows on August 26, 2010, PlayStation Portable on June 23, 2011, iOS on August 25, 2011, PlayStation 3 on May 24, 2012, PlayStation Vita on March 14, 2013, and Android on June 27, 2013. The game is described by the development team as a "hypothetical science ADV" (想定科学ADV, Sōtei Kagaku ADV). The gameplay in Steins;Gate follows non-linear plot lines which offer branching scenarios with courses of interaction. JAST USA released the PC version in North America on March 31, 2014, both digitally and as a physical collector's edition, while PQube released the PS3 and Vita versions in North America and Europe in 2015, and will follow by an English translation of the iOS version.

A manga adaptation of the story illustrated by Sarachi Yomi began serialization in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine on September 26, 2009. A second manga series, illustrated by Kenji Mizuta, began serialization in Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Blade on December 28, 2009. An anime adaptation by White Fox aired in Japan between April 6, 2011 and September 14, 2011, and has been licensed in North America by Funimation Entertainment. An animated film premiered in Japanese theaters on April 20, 2013. A fan disc of the game, titled Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling, was released on June 16, 2011. An 8-bit sequel to the game, titled Steins;Gate: Hen'i Kuukan no Octet, was released on October 28, 2011. Another game, Steins;Gate Kōsoku no Phenogram was released on April 25, 2013. A follow-up game, Steins;Gate 0, was released on December 10, 2015 for PS3, PlayStation 4 and Vita, with an anime adaptation in production.

S5G reactor

The S5G reactor was a prototype naval reactor designed for the United States Navy to provide electricity generation and propulsion on submarines. The S5G designation stands for:

The S5G was a pressurized water reactor plant with two coolant loops and two steam generators. It had to be designed with the reactor vessel situated low in the boat and the steam generators high in order for natural circulation of the primary coolant to be developed and maintained.

This nuclear reactor was installed both as a land-based prototype at the Nuclear Power Training Unit, Idaho National Laboratory near Arco, Idaho, and on board the USS Narwhal (SSN-671); both have been decommissioned. It was intended to test the potential contribution of natural circulation technology to submarine quieting.

Reactor primary coolant pumps are one of the primary sources of noise from submarines, and the elimination of coolant pumps and associated equipment would also reduce mechanical complexity and the space required by propulsion equipment.

S. G. F. Brandon

Samuel George Frederick Brandon (1907 – 21 October 1971) was a British priest and scholar of comparative religion. He became professor of comparative religion at the University of Manchester in 1951.

Biography

Brandon was a graduate of the University of Leeds. He was ordained in 1932 after Anglican training at Mirfield, and then spent seven years as a parish priest before enrolling as an army chaplain in World War II, after which he began a successful academic career in 1951 as a historian of religion. Brandon's most influential work, Jesus and the Zealots, was published in 1967, wherein he advanced the claim that Jesus fit well within the ideology of the anti-Roman Zealot group.

As he flew over the Mediterranean Sea on 21 October 1971, he died of an infection he contracted while working in Egypt.

Ideas

His thinking on New Testament themes grew out of The Fall of Jerusalem and the Christian Church (1951). His most celebrated position is the controversial one, that a political Jesus was a revolutionary figure, influenced in that by the Zealots; this he argued in the 1967 book Jesus and the Zealots: A Study of the Political Factor in Primitive Christianity.The Trial of Jesus of Nazareth (1968) raises again, amongst other matters, the question of how the Fall of the Temple in 70 CE shaped the emerging Christian faith, and in particular the Gospel of Mark.
