Antonin Artaud: Practical Approaches to a Theatre of Cruelty (Preview)
DUR 120 + / KS 4-5 / 2010 This video clip is a sample taken from the educational DVD Antonin Artaud: Practical Approaches to a Theatre of Cruelty. Duration: over two hours of footage KS 4-5+ This unique DVD resource will be invaluable for all drama teaching. It will especially help you and your students fulfill the AQA syllabus requirements for Unit 2 (Presentation of an Extract from a Play), where Artaud can be the influencing practitioner selected and Unit 4 (Presentation of Devised Drama), where Theatre of Cruelty can be the chosen style. For the Edexcel syllabus it is equally useful for Unit 1 (Exploration of Drama and Theatre), where candidates explore a play in terms of one recognized practitioner, and Unit 3 (Exploration of Dramatic Performance) where the work of a practitioner can influence the way their devised response develops. The DVD comprises practical approaches to working with Artaud and the Theatre of Cruelty, co-ordinated by Stephen Pritchard, whose students' work with Artaud is used as exemplars of excellence for A level Moderators. Interviews, and practical exercises from leading practitioners include Lars Oyno, Director of the Oslo-based Grusomhetens Teater (Theatre of Cruelty), Stephen Barber, Artaud's biographer and author of three books on Artaud. The DVD also contains a wealth of practical performance footage of Theatre of Cruelty from professional companies and top-band students.' Introduction to Antonin Artaud
Hello! This is Laura & Claudia's Youtube Assignment for Drama Year 10. It is just an introduction to Antonin Artaud to show the sort of way his plays were made (how the video is all happy then she dies at the end) and what types of things Antonin did. I hope this helps you with any future assignments/research! Information on video: Antonin Artaud was born 4th September 1896. He Died on the 4th March 1948 from an overdose of Drugs (Chloral Hydrate). He was Inspired by authors and artists such as Shakespeare, Alfred Jarry and Andre Masson. He influenced Peter Brook, Jean Genet, and Julian Beck. The Set is not a big necessity, But the only things on stage are usually the Actors and Key Props. Music and sound effects used to make the audience feel an emotional impact. The actors involved the audience by acting around them and constantly moving. The movements of the actors is more gesture and dance instead of words and speaking. When Artaud was directing, it gave him an idea of the practical side of theatre, which he didn't like. He then made his own side of Theatre, "Theatre of Cruelty" which was not as big in his time as it is today. The actors in Artaud's plays are highly qualified as they need to be able to dance and interact with audience The characters are always moving with big gestures and the acting is more dancing than walking around. Five Truths: Antonin Artaud
This video features two films from the Five Truths installation that focus on an Antonin Artaud influenced approach to the character of Ophelia. What are the differences between five of the most influential European theatre practitioners of the 20th century? How would these five directors work with the actress playing Ophelia in the famous mad scene in Shakespeare's Hamlet? What would they ask the actress to do and how would they ask the actress to behave? A video installation looking at these questions, called Five Truths and commissioned by the V&A; in partnership with the National Theatre was created by a group of contemporary theatre makers lead by director Katie Mitchell. The multi-screen installation brings together five interpretations of Ophelia's madness in Hamlet. Ten screens of varying sizes simultaneously play films of Ophelia interpreted dramatically through the lens of Constantin Stanislavski, Antonin Artaud, Bertolt Brecht, Jerzy Grotowski and Peter Brook. Curated by Kate Bailey, created by director Katie Mitchell, video designer Leo Warner, set designer Vicki Mortimer, lighting designer Paule Constable and sound designer Gareth Fry, starring Michelle Terry as Ophelia. The Five Truths will appear at a number of venues in the UK in 2012 including the Howard Assembly Room at Opera North in Leeds, the Lowry, the V&A; and the National Theatre.

1993 - En compagnie d'Antonin Artaud (My Life and Times with Antonin Artaud) /w Eng. sub.
