quicktips

Resume length matters. Don't limit your resume to one page – it's better to provide more detail than less. As a general rule, resumes should be one page for each decade of work experience.

quicktips

Provide more detail. Your resume should be a confidence builder. Chances are you're doing more work than you’re taking credit for.

quicktips

“In addition to "Work Experience," create a list of "Areas of Expertise". A bulleted list of items will create interest and draw the reader's eye down the page.

quicktips

Tailor your resume to the job being targeted. Employers see lots of resumes, and too few of them note related qualifications. Use keywords contained in the job description and prioritize the qualifications emphasized in the ad.

quicktips

Lead your resume with a "professional summary" that explains what you've accomplished. That may include your educational achievements, but only if it's relative to the position you're seeking. Further details about education, trainings, certifications and awards should be moved to the bottom of the document.

quicktips

Don't play down your responsibilities even if you think your current job is beneath your abilities. Instead, provides lots of detail. That will give the reader a better idea of what you do day-to-day.

quicktips

The amount of detail provided in "Past Positions" is overwhelming. The job seeker would do better to further list out items by bullets. Doing so will also create more white space, drawing the reader's eye to the applicant's related qualifications.

quicktips

Limit military jargon. Unless you're applying for a position with a defense contractor, it's best to explain experiences in plain English, taking time to spell acronyms and explain them if necessary.
