HOVERBOARD - NILS GUADAGNIN
The Hoverboard is a project made by Nils guadagnin, a young french artist. This work is born in 2008 for an exhibition named "Back To the future".
It is a copy of the hoverboard from the movie Back to the Future II. Integrated into the board and the plinth is an electromagnetic system which levitates the board. A laser system stabilises the object in the air.
In the making of this work, this artist was thinking about different ways of presenting sculpture. In fact it's a reflexion on the multiple possibilities of how to give a sculpture full spatial autonomy.
The project have been realised with levitation technology of crealev company. www.crealev.com

Matthew Dear - "Slowdance" by Charles Bergquist
Almost a full year after the release of Matthew Dear's monochromatic opus, Black City, the album's swansong single, "Slowdance," gets a video.
San Diego filmaker Charles Bergquist was tasked with transforming the undulating piece of goth romanticism into a video. He received, basically, creative autonomy, and set about trying to decipher a track that is, in his words, "about the disruption of memory, at it’s visual core." The result is a fluid, heady, almost voyeuristic collage of urban landscapes, visual effects, and unsubtle shots of a certain ingenue. "In the song’s build and layering of memories of her," he says, "She, the environment shared, and the unknown becomes blended, fractured and infinitely heaped together." It does look like thinking backwards feels—uncertain, romantic, bizarre."
"The lyrics drove the photography and the sound drove the texture and slices," Bergquist says. "For most of the edit and post-production work, I let the track dictate the visuals."
That means slightly regimented cuts—timed to beats sometimes, but not always—a complete lack of color, aqueous imagery, and a microscopic attention to detail. And with that, the final piece of the Black City puzzle has fallen into place.

The Purity Myth Trailer
Produced & Distributed by the Media Education Foundation
Featuring Jessica Valenti
In this video adaptation of her bestselling book, pioneering feminist blogger Jessica Valenti trains her sights on "the virginity movement" -- an unholy alliance of evangelical Christians, right-wing politicians, and conservative policy intellectuals who have been exploiting irrational fears about women's sexuality to roll back women's rights. From dad-and-daughter "purity balls," taxpayer-funded abstinence-only curricula, and political attacks on Planned Parenthood, to recent attempts by legislators to de-fund women's reproductive health care and narrow the legal definition of rape, Valenti identifies a single, unifying assumption: the myth that the worth of a woman depends on what she does -- or does not do -- sexually. In the end, Valenti argues that the health and well-being of women are too important to be left to ideologues bent on vilifying feminism and undermining women's autonomy.

ZL Daily #109 - HP Plans To Ditch webOS, HP Plans To Focus More On Software And Services...
Today HP announced their Q2 2011 earnings but as usual the earnings aren't the only thing HP announced. They also talked about some of their future plans. One of those plans was a plan to discontinue their webOS lineup. That plan is kind of an odd one especially since just a little over a year ago HP spent $1.2 billion buying Palm and webOS. But I guess they just gave up on webOS at least for now. Bad news if you are into webOS although for the most part webOS isn't a very big platform since most people buy Android smartphones or iOS smartphones right now. HP also announced something very different and a bit odd. And that is the fact that they plan to focus more on software and services and less on hardware. In the past HP has done very well in the PC market and they are actually #1 in the PC market although for the most part they aren't making a ton of money off of every PC sale. So HP turning into a software company might make them more money. Rumors are that they are going to invest $10 billion in a software company called Autonomy which focuses on enterprise software. HP might even re brand their HP lineup of computers. Articles used: gtmurl.com Blog: zlstudios.net Twitter twitter.com
