Found on the ZAD website: Contrary to what was announced by the prefect this morning at 10:30am, the operation has not yet ended. And we don’t consider that everything “went fine”.
Tonight at 21pm, the Sabot is still holding, the general assembly has just ended, the barricades are keeping strong, high/big lights from the cops are shining in the fields in front of the Sabot, in direction Chêvrerie and Fosse noir. [Read More]

France: Highest risks of eviction in the ZAD

Several sources let us believe that evictions are imminent. We got wind of a first wave of evictions on Tuesday the 16th of October at dawn. We received precise informations about where troops will be staying, the planned route to access the area, the number of personnel involved (500 gendarmes). This first wave should concern houses that are already evictable and also the cabins. This should be followed by a second wave about ten days later, regarding this time tree-houses and three houses, La Sècherie, les Rosiers, la Saulce where the baillif chose this august to bring forward the date from when they’re evictable, moving it from november 15th to october 27th.
For the last few weeks teams of police have been around the ZAD gathering information in preparation, like measuring the height of the tree-houses. Police teams are currently patrolling, including some with parisian number plates. Traffic controls have been increased on and around the ZAD. Last Tuesday (October 09th ) the last squat in Grandchamps was evicted with the help of impressive police deployment. [Read More]

On Wednesday October 10, 2012 people who are “homeless, have recently been evicted, and foreclosed-on, the dispossessed, and their allies took to the streets in San Francisco protesting and marching to express their frustration with the current homeless situation and numbers both here in San Francisco and in the whole United States. Here in San Francisco it is believed that at least 10,000 people are homeless, and there are at least 35,000 vacant “housing units,” city wide. It is also believed that there at least “3.5 million homeless people in the United States, and that at least 1 million are children, but only 112,000 nationwide are chronically homeless.”

My name is Peter, I am a member of the space team who have been working day and night for the past two weeks in order to try and find a building that meets the criteria of size, accessibility, location, and security. In the last fourteen days we have scouted around forty buildings in areas such as Elephant and Castle, The City of London, Holborn, and Mayfair; opened and internally expected around 10, and fully squatted and prepared 2; most of us have slept less than 4 hours in every 24.

Can Piella is a rural-urban squat, in Montcada i Reixac, near Barcelona, that laid ignored for ten years or more. The ruinous land and dilapidated farmhouse of Can Piella was replenished and renovated by local people, in solidarity, who grew their own food sustainably and autonomously. Can Piella might be evicted on October 14. I claim, this eviction should stop because people have ‘right to their spaces’, ‘right to grow their own food’ and ‘right to nature’, at the interface of faulty neoliberal knowledge and policies and forced inclusion of capital-intensive farming. Cardiff: Social Centre update from the Gremlins

We the Gremlins (currently squatters of Gremlin Alley) will be re-opening our social centre to the community later this week. After a thorough clean up, re-organising our space and lots of hard work, we are pleased to announce that we will be going back to ‘business as usual’. There will additionally be a video communique to be released tomorrow regarding the on going resistance to keep the space.

But Can Piella alive, Can Piella is scheming … For us it’s an opportunity to show that Can Piella is all the people who came, participated, enjoyed, followed, enriched and believes in this project anf his ideas. Cardiff: Red and Black Umbrella Social Center, 1 Year Anniversary Halloween Bash!

On the 30th of October 2011, a group of people entered the tredegar hotel in adamsdown with the intention of creating a social centre, from this action and a chance trip by a bin the red and black umbrella was found.

Nearly one year on, and to the group’s amazement, the red and black umbrella remains a part of the radical community in cardiff. There have been ups and downs, highs and lows, periods of unrelenting action and crippling stagnation, but it is what it is and we want to celebrate that with you.

So @ 7.00pm Friday 2nd November we’ll be throwing a one year halloween birthday bash. It’ll be a dark night, it’ll be a spooky night, you better not go in the basement! There’ll be some acoustic music (acts TBC) and much more! [Read More]
