Loaded, first published in 1994, is a British magazine for men that is considered to be the "original lads' mag".^[1][2] Its motto is "For men who should know better".^[3]. At its peak in the late 1990s it sold over 450,000 copies each month, but by 2012 had collapsed to below 35,000 ^[4].

Loaded was founded in 1994 by Mick Bunnage, Tim Southwell and James Brown,^[5] a former deputy editor of the music weekly New Musical Express.^[6] It was first published by IPC. The title of the magazine is believed to be named after the Primal Scream song of the same name.^{[citation needed]} In its early days, the magazine's readership was once memorably described as "50% Sun readers and 50% Guardian readers".^{[citation needed]} Brown has described the irreverent comic Viz as an inspiration for Loaded^[7] (and he later bought the comic when he founded the company I Feel Good).^[8] Brown's fanzine Attack On Bzag can be seen as a precursor for Loaded,^{[citation needed]} as can music journalist John Robb's Rox fanzine, which heavily influenced Brown and Loaded^{[citation needed]} with its frenetic style and humorous use of captioned photos.

Commenting on the magazine's creation, Brown said, "I was told you need 99 straight guys and one weirdo to make a magazine. I did it the other way, I chose 99 weirdos."^[9] Loaded captured the lad culture^[10] of the 1990s like no other magazine;^[11] its glorification of British male "rogues" (Liam Gallagher, Oliver Reed, Paul Gascoigne etc.) was only outstripped by its fondness for titillating photoshoots with nubile C-, B-, and occasionally A-list celebrities. However, early covers led on male icons for film and TV - Gary Oldman was on the first cover.^[11]

The Loaded style has been cloned numerous times, most obviously by Emap's FHM^[12] and Maxim,^[12] which became the biggest-selling men's magazine in the US for Dennis Publishing. Loaded also influenced women's monthlies, with Emap launching Minx, "For girls with a lust for life". In January 2004, IPC launched the weekly Nuts, announced as the world's first men's weekly, and Emap quickly followed with Zoo.

Loaded won the prestigious PPA Magazine Of The Year Award an unprecedented two times in a row, in 1995 and 1996. In 2007, Loaded was voted 49th in Industry website goodmagazine.com's Top 51 Magazines of All Time list, for the "Smartest, Prettiest, Coolest, Funniest, Most Influential, Most Necessary, Most Important, Most Essential, etc."^[13] Despite its influence, sales have dropped in recent years: in the first six months of 2007, Loaded recorded a 35% drop in circulation compared to the first half of 2006.^[11] However, in February 2010, Loaded received an ABC circulation figure that was down "just 2% over the period," compared with what Media Week called "eye-popping falls" for its competitors.^[14]

Launch Deputy Editor and later Editor, Tim Southwell, wrote about the early years of Loaded in Getting Away With It (Ebury Press, 1998).^{[citation needed]} James Brown discussed the title at length and the impact it had on '90s culture in the documentary Live Forever: The Rise and Fall of Brit Pop

Loaded was edited by Martin Daubney, from August 2003 to October 2010.^[15]

Between 2003-2006, Loaded won numerous industry awards for design and journalism, including 'best designed fashion pages' at the Magazine Design Awards, for a spread of dogs photographed wearing jewellery.^{[citation needed]} Loaded staff writer Jeff Maysh won five industry awards for journalism, including MJA Feature Writer of the Year,^[16] and PTC New Monthly Consumer Journalist of the year.^[17]

Speaking of the relaunched Loaded, Daubney said: "We spent a lot of time talking to our sweet readers, and they said: ‘we love all the great stuff at the heart of the mag: the football, the features, the girls’... We’ve also roped in our celebrity mates - from Richard Bacon on the movies and Vinnie Jones casting an unflinching eye over the sports agenda, to Ross Kemp providing his monthly missive from the front line of modern man.”^[18]

IPC Media sold Loaded, along with SuperBike, to Vitality Publishing in 2010.^{[citation needed]}

Controversies[link]

Writer Jon Wilde was punched in the face by snooker player Alex “Hurricane” Higgins, and again by chef Keith Floyd in July 1996, during interviews for the magazine.^[19]

In April 2008, Loaded was forced to apologize to Heinz, after running an article that indicated incorrectly that Heinz once supplied the Nazi regime with a version of alphabet spaghetti consisting of tiny swastikas, a notion that according to The Times, is an urban legend.^[20]

Jessica-Jane Clement (born 24 February 1985 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England)^[1] is a British glamour model, actress and TV presenter who is best known for starring in the BBC programme The Real Hustle.

She attended High Storrs School in Sheffield, studied Performing Arts and Psychology at The Sheffield College before going on to study at the Dartington College of Arts.^[2].

Clement began her career as a Page Three model. At the age of 18 she appeared in Playboy and has modelled for photographers Byron Newman and the late Bob Carlos Clarke. She has since appeared in various lads' mags as a result of her popularity in The Real Hustle.^[2]

Clement has starred in the music videos for several songs including You and Me by British dance act Uniting Nations,^[3] Craig David's All the Way,^[4] Christian Blaizer's All I Want^[5] and Studio B's I see Girls.^[6]

Since 2010, Clement has been a spokesmodel for grooming product company Lynx, promoting their Lynx Rise range.^[7]

Clement placed #54 in ZOO's hot 101 of 2009, #26 in Nuts' 100 Sexiest of 2009, #32 in the Top 100 ZOO's Beach Babe Awards 2011 and was #46 in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women of 2009.^[8]

Since 2006, Clement has starred in the BBC TV series The Real Hustle,^[2] a spin-off of the BBC drama series Hustle. Along with Alex Conran and Paul Wilson she demonstrates confidence and magic tricks, distraction scams and proposition bets on members of the public, to show viewers how to avoid being fooled by them. As of 2012, Clement has starred in all 106 episodes of all eleven series. She has also starred in all of the one-off specials: The 12 Scams Of Christmas, Winter Special, Worlds' Greatest Bar Bets, Best Ever Cons, Don't Miss A Trick and The Real Hustle Around the World.

Her other acting roles include starring as Cindi Marshall in Sky TV's Dream Team for two series from 2005 to 2007^[9] and playing the role of the Jade Dragon escort in the 2005 film Moussaka & Chips.^[10]

In November 2008, Clement took part in the BBC Three show Celebrity Scissorhands in aid of Children in Need.^[11] In 2009 she appeared in Doghouse, a British zombie comedy, in which she played the leading character's girlfriend^[12] and the long-running British hospital drama Casualty, playing Jackie, a new member of the ambulance/paramedic crew.^[13]

From 13 November 2011, Clement took part in the eleventh series of ITV's reality television show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. She was voted out on 28 November 2011, five days before the end of the series and was in the jungle for fifteen of the nineteen days, returning along with the rest of her camp-mates for the final Coming Out episode.^[14]

Also in November 2011, Clement presented the programme Skin Deep: The Business of Beauty, which was broadcast daily on BBC3 between 14 and 18 November 2011.^[15]

In January 2012, she presented a BBC documentary titled Britain in Bed in which she revealed how British attitudes to sex have changed over the last 50 years.^[16]

Martine McCutcheon (born Martine Kimberley Sherrie Ponting^[1] on 14 May 1976) is an English singer, television personality and Laurence Olivier Award-winning actress. McCutcheon had minor success as one third of the pop group Milan in the early 1990s; however, it was her role as Tiffany Mitchell in BBC's EastEnders that made her a household name in the UK in 1995. McCutcheon left the series at the end of 1998 to embark on a pop career, this time as a solo artist. She had international success, reaching No. 1 in 5 countries with her debut single Perfect Moment. She released three albums to varying degrees of success, but her pop career stalled due to the poor reception of her third album in 2002. She has since appeared in various television programmes, in films such as Love Actually as 'Natalie', and on stage in My Fair Lady, where her portrayal of Eliza Doolittle won her a Laurence Olivier Award in 2002. She released her autobiography, Who Does She Think She Is?^[2] in 2000.

McCutcheon was born as Martine Kimberley Sherri Ponting at the Salvation Army Mother's Hospital in Hackney, London, when her mother, Jenny Tomlin, was 20. She endured a turbulent early childhood due to the abusive and irrational behaviour of her drug addict father, Thomas Hemmings.^[3] Her earliest memory of her father is him dangling her over a balcony by her ankles, 30 feet up in the air, threatening to drop her unless her mother did what he wanted.^[4] Despite Hemmings leaving when McCutcheon was 2 years old, he would return periodically to threaten her mother so her early years were spent running and hiding in order to escape him. When McCutcheon was nine, her mother won sole custody and an injunction was made against Hemmings seeing McCutcheon until she was 18.^[4]

When McCutcheon was 10, her mother met and married window cleaner John McCutcheon (Martine's stepfather) which led to Martine taking her stepfather's surname. McCutcheon has a younger half-brother. ^[3] She knew she wanted to be a performer from a young age but, as her family could not afford the fees for a drama school, she had to find an alternative method to learn her trade. McCutcheon met a woman at a local dance class who had been to the Italia Conti stage school, and she suggested that the school would be a good environment for her. After a persuasive letter from McCutcheon, a Church of England trust agreed to sponsor her. She trained after school and every Saturday (learning tap, ballet, jazz and drama) in order to catch up with the more privileged children who were competing with her for a place at the prestigious school.^[3]

At the age of 12, McCutcheon obtained her first acting role and was paid £350 to appear in an American television commercial for the drink, Kool-Aid, which was followed by modelling assignments and bit parts in TV shows such as in the ITV police drama The Bill.^[3] She also appeared in the music video for the song "Caribbean Blue" by Irish singer Enya. By the time she was 15, she had formed an all-girl group, 'Milan', with two fellow students and landed a record contract and a gig touring as the 'warm up' group for the British boyband, East 17. Milan were reasonably successful. They entered the dance charts three times but were not successful enough for the band to make a living and they collectively disbanded.^[3]

In 1994, while working as a shopgirl at Knickerbox, McCutcheon was offered the small part of Tiffany Raymond on the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. The role of Tiffany grew as did McCutcheon's popularity and 22 million viewers tuned in to see her final scenes in Albert Square in 1998 when her character was killed in a special episode screened on New Year's Eve.^[5] In reality, McCutcheon had decided to leave the soap in order to embark on a pop career and the death of her character was not viewed favourably by the actress as she had intended to return. Since leaving the show, McCutcheon has publicly slammed the BBC's "Controller of Continuing Drama Series", Mal Young, who made the decision to kill her character. She accused him of treating her unfairly and bringing her role in the soap to an end so irrevocably, merely as punishment for leaving.^[3] In turn, Young has hit back at McCutcheon, saying her anger only arose because she wanted him to keep her role in EastEnders open as a 'safety net', in case her pop career failed, and he was not prepared to do this. McCutcheon has subsequently written an autobiography entitled Who Does She Think She Is?: My Autobiography, which depicts Young less than favourably.^[3]

McCutcheon first appearance in the chart occurred in 1995 on a minor dance song "Are You Man Enough" with the dance producers "Uno clio". A promotional video was produced.

In 1999, McCutcheon debuted as a solo pop artist with Virgin Records and scored a number 1 in the UK Singles Chart with the ballad "Perfect Moment" (originally recorded by Edyta Górniak in 1997). The song was a global success reaching number 1 not only in the UK, but in Israel, Italy, Switzerland and Ireland. That same year she scored two more Top 10 hits, reaching number 6 with the singles "I've Got You" and later "Talking in Your Sleep", which featured the double A Side "Love Me", an album track that was re-recorded for the Children in Need appeal with all proceeds being donated to that cause. All three singles were taken from her debut album You, Me and Us, which peaked at number 2 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified as double platinum.

In 2000, McCutcheon released her second album Wishing, which was less successful, charting at number 25 in the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned two singles - the number 2 hit "I'm Over You" and her follow up song "On The Radio". Despite only peaking at #25 the album still managed to sell around 250,000 copies. McCutcheon released her third album Musicality, a Broadway influenced cover album, in 2002. It reached number 55 in the albums charts, however her pop career stalled when due to poor sales her recording contract was cancelled.^[3]

In December 2011, on Irelands "The Saturday Night Show" Martine confirmed she was in the studio working on a new album due for release sometime in 2012.

Film, stage and television[link]

McCutcheon appeared in ITV's The Knock as well as the British film Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) in 2000. She went on to play Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady at the National Theatre in London. Despite missing many performances (citing health problems) and withdrawing nearly five months early from the production's transfer to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane,^[6] she won the award for best actress in a musical at the 2002 Laurence Olivier Awards.

In 2002, McCutcheon presented the National Music Awards for ITV1 and in 2003 she featured in her first major film role. She appeared as tea-lady Natalie in the Richard Curtis romantic comedy Love Actually, where the British Prime Minister (played by Hugh Grant) falls in love with McCutcheon's character. The film received good reviews and was a box office success. McCutcheon went to America in the wake of the film's success, but a Hollywood career did not materialise. She did however, win Best Trans-atlantic breakthrough at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.

In September 2005, she appeared in two episodes of hit BBC drama series Spooks, playing Tash, a waitress who witnesses a terrorist bombing. Screened on the UK television station ITV1 in December 2005, McCutcheon appeared in The English Harem, playing a woman in love with a Muslim man (Art Malik), who marries him despite knowing he already has two wives. That same year she presented and performed on ITV's entertainment programme, Moviemusic Mania.

In 2007, McCutcheon was seen in two independent films, Withdrawal opposite Patrick Swayze and Jump!, as well Marple episode At Bertram's Hotel, where she plays a maid named Jane Cooper that assists Miss Marple with her investigations. She was also a judge in the second series of ITV1's Soapstar Superstar. Her appearance on the show drew criticism, with reports alleging that she was becoming a hate figure for the contestants, who were said to have found her comments relentlessly critical and at times patronising.^[7] McCutcheon performed in an Art Plus fundraising event at the Whitechapel Art Gallery opposite Natalie Press, Samantha Morton and Rhys Ifans and in January 2008 she starred alongside actor Jason Donovan, in the ITV soap Echo Beach as character Susan Penwarden.^[8]

McCutcheon released her autobiography, Who Does She Think She Is? in 2000, and in 2003 Martine McCutcheon: Behind the Scenes - A Personal Diary, was published by Harper Collins. McCutcheon, along with many global stars, also featured in a promotional film for London's successful bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics, in 2004. A fitness DVD, Martine McCutcheon: Dance body workout, was released in December 2005.

In August 2006, the supermarket chain, Tesco, announced that they would be using McCutcheon in a series of adverts to promote a new green scheme for recycling used plastic carrier bags.^[9] In 2006, she became "the face" of the fabric softener brand, Lenor.

In 2009, she had her first novel published by Pan MacMillan, called The Mistress.^[10]

In January 2010, she became the face on Danone's UK advertising campaign for its Activia yogurt brand.^[11]

Martine had worked on two BBC Radio plays, most recently with Ricky Tomlinson and Clive Anderson.

McCutcheon was engaged to DJ Gareth Cooke, but broke off the relationship in 1996.^[12] She is now engaged to singer Jack McManus,^[13] with whom she has been in a relationship since 2009.^[14]

Lucy Katherine Pinder (born 20 December 1983^[3]) is an English glamour model, from Winchester.

Modeling career[link]

In the summer of 2003, Pinder was spotted by a freelance photographer Lee Earle while sunbathing on Bournemouth beach. As a result of the photographs taken that day, she signed a professional modelling contract with the Daily Star tabloid newspaper.^[3][4]

Pinder was regularly partnered with Michelle Marsh, with whom she made magazine, television, and corporate appearances. She has also been featured with other glamour models, including Danielle Lloyd, Sophie Howard, Jana Defi, Lindsey Strutt, and Saskia Howard-Clarke. Her photo shoots have appeared in magazines such as Loaded, Maxim, Nuts, ZOO, Ice, Carnoisseur,^[5] Redline and Fast Car. She has appeared in prominent adverts for PlayStation 2, Yellow Pages, the National Lottery^[6] and in 2010 she was head of the Bennetts Babe squad.^[7]

For the first several years of her career, Pinder, unlike most other glamour models, did not fully reveal her breasts in photo shoots, often posing while covering her nipples with her hands or hair. While she often appeared exposing part of the areola, her first completely topless photographs appeared in Nuts magazine in April 2007. In the accompanying interview, Pinder explained that she was initially reluctant to go fully topless "because of the way I was discovered on a beach. It was all a bit sudden and the idea of getting [my breasts] out straight away was a bit daunting."^[8]

Pinder currently runs a weekly advice column in Nuts, entitled "The Truth About Women,"^[9] and also has embarked on a television career. She is represented by Girl Management aka Girl and Frank White Pictures.^[10]

In November 2010, Lucy announced that she will be writing a weekly column for Laid.co.uk, answering readers' questions.^[11] She posed topless in Nuts magazine's Royal wedding commemorative issue of April 2011.^[12]

In 2004, Pinder appeared on Living TV's series I'm Famous and Frightened, spending the weekend at Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire investigating ghosts and spirits.^[13]

On 31 December 2005, Pinder appeared on Sky Sports as a celebrity soccerette on Soccer AM during which she wore a Southampton jersey. She also sat on the famous orange sofa answering questions on topics such as modelling and football.^[14]

In September 2007, Pinder appeared as a contestant on a special edition of the Weakest Link, entitled "Wags and Glamour Girls".^[15][16]

From September to December 2007, Pinder presented a short nightly programme for Nuts TV called "Book at Bedtime", which is based on a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme. She read a passage from a well-known novel.^[17]

On 15 January 2008, Pinder made her presenter debut for Nuts TV. She presented the Nuts TV live show on six further occasions in February and March 2008, and also presented "Overexposed" - a series on Nuts TV giving hints and tips to the aspiring amateur glamour photographer.^[18] Subsequently, she has appeared on MTV channel TMF,^[18] presenting in conjunction with Kayleigh Pearson, Pinder and Pearson's Late-Night Love-in; a "countdown of saucy music videos."

In February 2008, Pinder made a cameo appearance, along with Michelle Marsh, in Hotel Babylon on BBC1.^[18]

In February 2010, Lucy Pinder appeared on BBC Three's "The Real Hustle Undercover", where she pulled a switch on an unsuspecting punter.^[18]

Celebrity Big Brother UK (2009)[link]

From 2 January 2009, Lucy Pinder appeared in the sixth series of Celebrity Big Brother UK. She revealed that she is "a bit of a Tory bird" and that 'thick' people irritate her. She was the first housemate to be voted out, on 9 January (Day 8) with 57% of the public vote.^[21] Pinder declared her wish to leave the Big Brother house after being driven to distraction by the incessant rapping of another housemate.^[22]
