I Am Going to Protest My Hero

Center for Social Work Research — School of Social Work - University ...I plan on going and protesting in Charlotte, North Carolina during the upcoming Democratic National Convention. I am a firm believer in equality and social justice, and I know there is still work to be done. My friends and I make a point of protesting every major convention, so we are going to this one too.

It strikes us as a little odd to be protesting this one. President Obama did get the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy overturned in the armed forces, and openly supports gay marriage. Obviously, the fact that he is the first minority President speaks largely to social justice. And, we like how he is starting to let the children of some immigrants have an easier time staying and maybe even find a path to citizenship. Read the rest of this entry »

Social Justice Issues Facing Social Workers

Graphic sample copy of the Social workers deal with individuals who need social assistance in order to promote positive changes within society. Social workers deal with a range social justice issues including: poverty, lack of insurance and diversity.

Poverty

Poverty is one of the biggest issues facing social workers today. People need money in order to take care of their basic needs such as: food, medicine and clothing. Lack of fincances can be the result of unemployment, lack of medical insurance or receiving very low wages. Social workers often face the challenge of having to deal with lack of funds from the federal government.

Lack of Insurance
