MGM.When.The.Lion.Roars-Louis B. Mayer-Nothing Matters (tribute)
tribute to Louis B. Mayer MGM.When.The.Lion.Roars-Louis B. Mayer-nothing matters Louis Burt Mayer (July 12, 1884[1] -- October 29, 1957) born Lazar Meir (Russian: Лазарь Меир) was an American film producer. He is generally cited as the creator of the "star system" within Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in its golden years. Known always as Louis B. Mayer and often simply as "LB", he believed in wholesome entertainment and went to great lengths so that MGM had "more stars than there are in the heavens". As a studio boss, Louis B. Mayer built MGM into the most financially successful motion picture studio in the world and the only one to pay dividends throughout the Great Depression of the 1930s. w/-mickey rooney, june allison, george murphy-patrick stewart 1992

1950 Chrysler Imperial Limousine Movie Mogul Louis B Mayer
This 1950 Chrysler Imperial Limousine was owned by movie mogul Louie B Mayor and is an incredible piece of movie history. This is the car that picked him up after being fired by MGM studios in the early 50's. After several visits to William Hearst's "Hearst Castle" he decided that the car needed more power. He sent it back to the dealer and had a larger motor installed, the early Hemi. Subsequently the brakes had to be replaced as the old drums just would not stop this "lead sled" so disc brales were installed. I have contacted Mr. Mayer's grandson, Daniel Selznick, whom shares his wonderful stories of riding to the Hollywood Bowl in this car with his late grandfather. Car will include a letter of authentication from Mr. Selznick and service department folder from the dealer bearing Mr. Mayer's name. We are currently working with Hollywood archivists to secure more information to include with the car. My name is Donn Dabney. I can be reached at 707-332-8331. Thank you for visiting! Check out my new channel www.youtube.com/user/studiofactorygems Obviously some stars are missing. I did not forget them. I just could not fit them in. If you want to get technical seek another outlet. This is a tribute to MGM not a slight to other actors.

ARTINQUIRY/"Lion of Hollywood" Louis B. Mayer an Interview with author Scott Eyman with Duncan Elkin
Dan Quayle would have loved Louis B. Mayer, a man for whom the words family values had real meaning. Motherhood, the Stars and Stripes and God were equal parts of a lifelong strategy that would establish Metro Goldwyn Mayer as the industry's dominant film factory, from the silent era through the talkies revolution. While the other early moguls were simply trying to make the best movies they could, young Mayer was an ideologue intent on using the power of the new medium to exert what he considered the proper moral influence on the American public.

Brief clip of 1924 Stag Film
In the course of my research into my unremembered past, I stumbled upon this video transfer of a 1920's stag film. The badly damaged celluloid from which it was dubbed, was discovered in an auction of the contents of a recently recovered collection from Louis B. Mayer, co-founder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Fortunately, whatever sordid acts I may have committed in the later sections of the film have been destroyed through deterioration of the fragile medium.
Logic and reason dictates that it would have been impossible for me to appear in a film shot more than half a century before avatars and virtual worlds. Nevertheless, the safety deposit box from which the film was recovered, has been sealed since 1926.
Hoax? Time travel? Aliens? Lost technology? You'll have to judge for yourself.

Tommy Dorsey 1943 - Fascinating Rhythm - Girl Crazy - Stereo
The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra plays Sy Oliver's amazing arrangement of George Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm" in the 1943 MGM musical "Girl Crazy." Mickey Rooney mimes to Arthur Schutt on piano.
I've replaced the audio on the mono soundtrack with stereo from the CD. Stereo tracks exist since MGM recorded the music using multiple mics before mixing it down to mono for the film soundtrack.
Happily, dedicated audio techs preserved the orchestral angles on 1/4" tape when Louis B. Mayer ordered all original elements destroyed in the early 50s.
Here's the list of musicians at the January 12, 1943 recording session at MGM Studios in Culver City.
TRUMPETS: George Seaberg, Pete Candoli, Ray Linn, Larry Brooks, Ziggy Elman
TROMBONES: Tommy Dorsey, Dave Jacobs, Sol Train, Jimmy Skiles
REEDS: Freddie Stulce (clarinet & alto saxophone), Harry Schuchman (alto & baritone saxophone), Manny Gershman (clarinet & alto saxophone), Heinie Beau (clarinet & tenor saxophone), Don Lodice (tenor saxophone)
RHYTHM: Milt Raskin, Arthur Schutt (piano), Denny Sandole (guitar), Phil Stephens, George Boujie (bass), Moe Purtill (drums)
VIOLINS: Si Miroff, Bernie Tinterow, Lenny Posner (concertmaster), Bill Ehrenkrantz, Alex Beller, Eugene Lamas, Albert Bertchamp, I. Boguslawski, Sam Albert, Sam Fiedler, Cyril Towbin, Jaime Overton, Louis Sarli, Otto Landau, Sarah Kreindler, Mischa Levienne
VIOLAS: Lenny Atkins, Sam Ross, Virginia Majewski, Reuben Marcus, Sam Noble
CELLO: Fred Camelia, Irving Lipschultz, Alex Borisoff

Good Morning - Stereo - Opera vs. Jazz - Where or When - Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney
Here are three songs from "Babes In Arms" that were recorded in stereo, but mixed down to mono for the film's release.
Fortunately, these stereo tracks were saved and transferred to 1/4" tape in the 1950s, when Louis B. Mayer ordered all the original elements destroyed. I've replaced the mono soundtrack with the stereo versions.
"Good Morning" by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed
Sung by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney
"Opera vs. Jazz" by Roger Edens (I guess)
"You Are My Lucky Star" by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed
"Figaro" by Roger Edens (based on Rossini)
"Broadway Rhythm" by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed
"Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti
Sung by Judy Garland and Betty Jaynes (I've included an unused portion of the song. Also, notice that Judy misses her entrance at 2:55.)
"Where or When" by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart
Sung by Douglas McPhail, Betty Jaynes, and Judy Garland

1997-12-06 Galt Johnson and Doug McGrath Piano Duet -- Adeste Fidelis
December 6, 1997 at the Louis B. Mayer Theater on the Santa Clara University campus. Galt created this fantastic arrangement of "Adeste Fidelis" for us to play on the Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus concert, "Christmas Fantasies.". There was glitch on the DVD, so a tiny snippet of the beginning is missing.
