American & National League Championship Series Post Contest Commentary.wmv
The Texas Rangers have defeated the Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals have defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, both the American and National League Championship Series concluding within six contests. The Cardinals procure their eighteenth National League Championship, equalizing the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. St. Louis is the initial Warren C. Giles Trophy receipient with three World Series appearances within eight seasons since the Atlanta Braves 1992-1999. The Rangers are the initial consecutive American League Champion since the New York Yankees 1998-2001. Texas joins the 1969-1970 Baltimore Orioles, the 1975-1976 Yankees, the 1988-1989 Oakland Athletics, and the 1991-1992 Braves as only the fifth franchise within the divisional era with a World Series appearance which succeeds a World Series defeat.

Thurman Munson: O Captain! My Captain!
Thurman Lee Munson (June 7, 1947 -- August 2, 1979) was an American catcher in Major League Baseball who played with the New York Yankees from 1969 to 1979. Munson was killed at age 32 while trying to land his personal airplane. An outstanding fielder, Munson made only one error while behind the plate in 1971 (he was knocked unconscious by a runner, dislodging the ball). He went on to win three straight Gold Glove Awards starting in 1973. A seven-time All-Star, Munson hit 113 home runs, batted in 701 runners, and had a career batting average of .292 over his 10-year career. He was also the first captain named by the Yankees since Lou Gehrig. Munson helped lead his team to three consecutive World Series (1976--78), where he batted a remarkable .373 overall (.339 in the American League Championship Series). From 1975-77, Munson hit .300 or better with 100 or more RBI each year, becoming the first catcher to accomplish the feat in three consecutive years since Yankee Hall of Famer Bill Dickey did it four straight seasons from 1936-39. Munson was frequently homesick, and took flying lessons so that he could fly home to his family in Canton on off-days. On August 2, 1979, he was practicing takeoffs and landings in his new Cessna Citation I/SP jet at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. On the third touch-and-go, Munson failed to lower the flaps for landing and allowed the aircraft to sink too low before increasing engine power, causing the jet to clip a tree and fall short of ...

Lloyd Pettit Calling Chicago Black Hawk Hockey
It is 1975/1976, American and the USSR are engaged in the cold war, the best voice ever to call hockey play-by-play is on the air, and you are tuned to 670 WMAQ Radio in Chicago. Part 1 features the final game of the season between the Hawks and the St. Louis Blues. Lloyd describes the action as the Hawks defeat the Blues to become the Conn Smyth Division Champion. Part 2 features the invasion of the Russians. Super Series '76 was the first time that USSR Professional Hockey Teams played NHL teams. On January 7, 1976, the Soviet Wings invaded the world famous Chicago Stadium. The Wings defeated the Hawks 4 to 2. Lloyd Pettit calls the third period. The biggest factor in the game was the Russian referee who clearly influenced the result with biased penalty calls.

Feb 19 2011 John Henry Tom Werner Larry Lucchino Red Sox.flv
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- With expectations and predictions of the franchise's first 100-win season since 1946 and an third World Series title in eight seasons, Red Sox principal owner John Henry said the team has lots of work ahead to just make the playoffs. "I don't see us as a clear favorite," Henry said when asked of the Yankees. "I see the teams as fairly evenly matched. We've got our work cut out for us to hopefully win the division." "I feel the same way," added Red Sox president Larry Lucchino. "There are other teams that are improving in this division. This is just not a mano-a-mano, two-team match. We've got other teams that are building a solid team and are making substantial commitments to those teams. The American League East will still be the rough-and-tumble American League East. Let's make no mistake about that." Henry was joined by Red Sox executives Tom Werner and Lucchino, manager Terry Francona and GM Theo Epstein in an address to the team before the first full-squad workout of 2011. Henry said the front office didn't need to remind the team they haven't accomplished anything yet this year. "I think that goes without saying," Henry said. "This is a group of professionals. They know they haven't accomplished anything. What we are on paper needs to translate into results and this is the first day of that translation." Larry Lucchino chimed in by reminding everyone the expectations of these Red Sox are defined simply by their identity. But he stopped far short ...

Tom "TK" Kennedy - USA Ultimate Hall of Fame Member Talks about the AUDL and Brodie Smith
Recently, I was in Santa Barbara for the 2012 US Open Overall Flying Disc Championships and I had the chance to sit down with Tom "TK" Kennedy. We had a candid conversation about how he got into the game, his history with the Ultimate Players Association (now known as USA Ultimate) and his role with the formation of the Santa Barbara Condors, one of the most famous ultimate teams ever. This first video is just a snippet of our conversation and I get his thoughts on the current state of ultimate - the AUDL, Brodie Smith's trick shot videos and youth ultimate. More about TK is below: USA Ultimate Hall of Fame Member - Tom "TK" Kennedy Inducted: 2004 - Inaugural Class Current Home: Santa Barbara, Calif. Born: March 31, 1949 Tom "TK" Kennedy was the founder of the UPA in 1979 and its first National Director. TK was an active player of all disc sports throughout the 1970s and was the driving force behind the growth of Ultimate in the western states. He was a founding member, captain and coach of the Santa Barbara Condors, a team that dominated West Coast Ultimate play for many years starting in 1975. The Condors won three of the first five US national championships in 1977, 1978 and 1981. As a player, TK dominated the national spotlight while competing in the five-region national championship series that he established in 1979, bridging the gap between West and East Coast Ultimate. During his playing career and in the years since he retired in the early 1980s, TK has received ...

Tribute to Gary Carter. In memoriam Renato Dulbecco. Remembering Elyse Knox.
Montreal's Only Expo In The Hall Of Fame Tribute to Gary Carter. In memoriam Renato Dulbecco. Remembering Elyse Knox. Gary Carter was the greatest player who ever played for the Montreal Expos. The Expos were the first Canadian franchise, formed in 1969 and the team existed until 2004 when they became the Washington Nationals. Carter was their Hall of Fame catcher and he later went on to play for the great New York Mets teams of the 1980's. Renato Dulbecco was one of the great virologists of the 20th Century and he won the Nobel Prize in 1975 for his work on reverse transcriptase, which was to prove invaluable in the AIDS epidemic that would soon emerge. Elyse Knox was a beautiful B-picture actress, who has an amazing show business pedigree. Gary Edmund Carter (April 8, 1954 -- February 16, 2012[1]) was an American professional baseball catcher whose 21-year career was spent primarily with the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. Nicknamed "Kid" for his youthful exuberance, Carter was named an All-Star 11 times, and was a member of one World Series championship team. Known throughout his career for his hitting and his excellent defense behind the plate, Carter made a major contribution to the Mets' World Series championship in 1986, including a 12th-inning single against the Houston Astros that won Game 5 of the NLCS and a 10th-inning single against the Boston Red Sox to start the fabled comeback rally in Game 6 of the World Series.
