James William Guercio (born July 18, 1945) is an American music producer, musician and songwriter. He is well known for his work as the producer of Chicago's early albums as well as early recordings of The Buckinghams and Blood Sweat & Tears. He has worked briefly in the motion picture industry as a producer and director. Guercio was a member of the backing band for The Beach Boys in the mid-1970s.
Guercio moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s and began working as a session musician and songwriter. He played on several recordings, wrote Chad and Jeremy's 1966 Top 30 pop hit "Distant Shores", and is listed as a "contributor" to Frank Zappa's 1966 debut album Freak Out! (he was briefly a member of the Mothers of Invention prior to the album's recording). Hired by Columbia Records as a staff producer, Guercio began working with the Buckinghams and helped them create four Top 10 records in 1967: "Don't You Care", "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)", and "Susan".
James Guercio being interviewed about Chicago and the Beach Boys
One of the grooviest bike chases ever! Always gets me in the mood... for running from the law? From the soundtrack of the cult cop movie Electra Glide In Blue from 1973, featuring great bass playing by the late Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, phenomenal drumming by Ross Salomone and some ultra funky guitar work by Larry Carlton.
More than 32 years after his untimely death in a gun accident, friends, fans, bandmates and other musicians gathered at William H. Taft High School in Chicago, IL on May 27, 2010 to stage a concert in tribute to Terry Kath, former guitarist, singer and composer with the jazz-rock band Chicago. Headliners included: Danny Seraphine, original drummer with Chicago; James William Guercio, Chicago's first producer and manager; and Kenny Cetera, brother of Chicago bassist and now solo artist Peter Cetera. They were joined by Chicago cover bands 25 or 6 to 4 and the 95th Street Band, as well as guitarist Tom Vienna and drummer Nick Morrone. Kath's solo on the Chicago hit 25 or 6 to 4 is perhaps his best-known guitar work, while vocally he sang on the hits Make Me Smile, Color My World and Wi...

James William Guercio's (produced Buckinghams, Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears) Overture from his score to the 1973 motion picture (which he also directed), Electra Glide in Blue, starring Robert Blake. Really underrated movie and soundtrack - definitely not talked about much. The soundtrack like the movie features many members from the first line up of Chicago. The soundtrack album is one of kind since it features a significant amount of dialogue from the movie. Taken from an original vinyl copy. The soundtrack was actually just officially released to cd limited to 1,000 copies. personnel - Ben Benay, Louie Shelton, Larry Carlton - guitars James Bond, Lyle Ritz, Abe Luboff - string bass Ross Salomone - drums Michael Lang, Michael O'Martin - piano Paul Beaver - moog synthesizer Dale Anderso...

Chicago in the Rockies Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is ____________________________________ Caribou Ranch was a recording studio built by producer James William Guercio in 1972 in a converted barn on ranch property in the Rocky Mountains near Nederland, Colorado, on the road that leads to the ghost town of Caribou. The studio was in operation until it was damaged in a fire in March 1985. In 1972, Joe Walsh and Bill Szymczyk were starting work on Barnstorm at Walsh's home in Colorado when a mixer blew out on the first day. Szymczyk knew Guercio was building a new studio, visited the in-progress barn conversion at the ranch, and concluded that it would work for their project. They used the new studio to finish Barnstorm. Szymczyk next made Rick Derringer's All American Boy and the ...

Out of this mess comes violinist Jerry Goodman teaming up with Jan Hammer to record an album together in 1974. Here Goodman plays more than just violin, he also plays guitar, and while you expect Hammer to shine on keyboards, he shines just as great on drums, which people often overlook. Both sing, and while singing is never their high point...
