SPCA officers rescued the pup on Christmas Eve
Still no justice for abused Eve:EVE, the starving dog whose shocking photos broke the hearts of New Zealanders, is still waiting for justice almost a year to the day since SPCA officers rescued her from under an Auckland house. The then-10-month old ridgeback's owner, Paulette Taki, who left the dog under her Glenn Innes home for weeks without food and water while she enjoyed a holiday, is still evading arrest. Taki was supposed to be sentenced at the Auckland District Court on September 29 after pleading guilty to two charges under the Animal Welfare Act in July but she did not appear at court. When Auckland SPCA officers rescued the pup on Christmas Eve she weighed just 10kg and had survived on a diet of flies. SPCA general manager David Lloyd Barker told Sunday News he was "enormously" disappointed justice had yet to be done for Eve. "The woman deserves to be put in front of the court and take her punishment. She's pleaded guilty and she just needs to accept her punishment." He said there had been sightings of Taki in Kaitaia and Papakura but an arrest had yet to be made. Eve, who now weighs 22kgs, has been adopted by Jim and Janine Molloy and their four children from Manurewa, south Auckland and is enjoying a big back yard and lots of attention. "Eve's doing really well. She's with her new family now and she's happy," Lloyd Barker said. More info: Source: www.stuff.co.nz

Ontario SPCA Remarkable Rehabilitation Program: Lucky dog
Lucky, a seven month old lab-cross, was surrendered to the Ontario SPCA on November 19, 2007. Lucky was diagnosed with three cervical (neck) fractures and spinal trauma. He was also malnourished, dehydrated and suffered from bed sores. An animal cruelty investigation is ongoing and charges are currently pending against a Scarborough resident. Lucky's initial prognosis was very guarded and he was sent to Guelph University for immediate, specialized care. He was placed in a half-body cast to promote healing, reduce swelling and to prevent further injury. Lucky's progress was slow, but his survivor's spirit assured veterinarians and the Ontario SPCA's staff that he was committed to his recovery. Lucky was transferred to the 404 Veterinary Hospital for specialized rehabilitation. Under their care, Lucky's recovery excelled. Lucky has benefited from a multi-faceted physiotherapy program, including specialized exercises and hydrotherapy. Contact the Ontario SPCA Provincial Office to help fund Lucky's remarkable rehabilitation. 1 888 ONT-SPCA (688-7722) • www.ontariospca.ca • info@ospca.on.ca Charitable Business Number 88969 1044 RR0002

Houston SPCA Rescues Over 200 Dogs
Working at the request of the Waller County Sheriff's Office, the Houston SPCA was on the scene of a large-scale dog breeding operation rescue on a property in nearby Waller County. Over 200 dogs, some as young as one day old, were rescued and removed at the owner's request. The dogs are all small breeds and include Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers, Dachshunds and other mixed-breed small dogs. They have a combination of internal and/or external parasites and moderate to severe skin conditions. The dogs have been rescued and taken to the Houston SPCA where their medical conditions will be further evaluated by veterinary teams standing by on alert. The goal of the Houston SPCA is to save as many of the dogs as possible by working with our dedicated teams of foster families, adoption partners and members of the community interested in helping to give them a second chance at the life they deserve. Tara Yurkshat, Vice President of Animal Welfare for the Houston SPCA, says that some of the dogs will become available for adoption as early as 10 am on Saturday, May 21st, when the shelter opens for adoptions. The Houston SPCA is issuing an urgent appeal for volunteer groomers and foster families. Volunteer groomers are needed because many of the dogs are matted and covered with feces and urine. Interested groomers can call Heather at 713.869.7722 x199 to help. Foster families will help give puppies and dogs that are not immediately ready for adoption the opportunity to thrive in a home ...

SPCA against puppy mills
Video created by the SPCA to teach people about the horrors of puppy mills. I volunteered with them when the 2 major raids happened last year and they ended up with 330 animals, all were skinny, underfed, mistreated, sad, dirty and parasitic. My Ginger is at the 1 minute mark. Adopt !! Please do not encourage these horrible puppy mills by buying animals from pet stores (who for a vast majority, get their animals from puppy mills even though they say otherwise). Support your local SPCA and adopt an animal - their lives and yours will be better for it !

Sheltered Cats and Dogs on Houston SPCA
Sad but still hopeful video from the animal shelter at Houston SPCA. They're doing a great job with the animals and you too should think about adopting an animal instead of buying from a pet store. There are so many poor animals who need somebody to care for them.

SPCA Samson the Greyhound
MAY 13, 2005: Well, it's finally here...the day the SPCA...and 76-lb. Samson!...have been anticipating. After careful screening, education, and interviews, Samson was placed in a loving, new home. He'll be living with fellow greyhound and new brother, Rover, in the Olean home of the Meccas. See photos below for the happy union with his new family...and a tearful goodbye as he leaves the SPCA. Now, the wonderful Meccas have promised to keep us updated, to send us photos, and to bring him in to visit, so this isn't the end of the Samson news. Keep visiting SPCAEC.com for photos of Samson in his new home, and for news on former owner Ida Thomas' animal cruelty trial, scheduled to begin later this month. MAY 5, 2005: Although the court trial for Samson was scheduled to begin today, his former owner's attorney requested further motions and case dismissal mere hours before the 2 pm start time. Judge McLeod did NOT dismiss the case, rescheduling the trial to begin Thursday, May 26, 9:30 am in Buffalo City Court. Read Samson's story below... APRIL 13, 2005: Starved and dehydrated, Samson came to the SPCA on March 15, 2005 (his 'owner,' Ida Thomas, pled 'not guilty' in Buffalo City Court this morning on charges of animal cruelty; her trial is scheduled to begin May 5, in front of Judge James AW McLeod. For related headlines, go to the SPCAEC.com News page, first on your left-hand menu bar.). Since his arrival, with the help of donations from animal-lovers throughout the country ...
