Coordinates: 52°46′14″N 1°12′17″W / 52.7705°N 1.2046°W / 52.7705; -1.2046
Loughborough (
i/ˈlʌfbərə/ LUFF-bərə or /ˈlʌfbrə/ LUFF-brə) is a town within the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire, England. It is the seat of Charnwood Borough Council and home to Loughborough University. The town had a population of 57,600 in 2004, making it the largest settlement in Leicestershire outside the city of Leicester. The town is close to the Nottinghamshire border and is within a short distance of locations such as Nottingham, the East Midlands Airport and Derby.
The town has the world's largest bell foundry — John Taylor Bellfounders, which made the bells for the Carillon war memorial, a landmark within the Queens Park in the town, Great Paul for St Paul's Cathedral, and York Minster. The first mention of Loughborough is in the 1086 Domesday Book.
Loughborough's local weekly newspaper is the Loughborough Echo. The town is also served by Leicestershire's daily newspaper, the Leicester Mercury.

Loughborough is a constituency in Leicestershire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Nicky Morgan, a Conservative.
Boundaries
1918-1950: The Rural Districts of Castle Donington and Loughborough, the Rural District of Ashby-de-la-Zouch (except the parish of Bardon), the Municipal Borough of Loughborough, and the Urban Districts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Ashby Woulds and Shepshed.
1950-1955: The Municipal Borough of Loughborough, the Urban Districts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Ashby Woulds and Shepshed, and the Rural Districts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Castle Donington.
1955-1974: The borough of Loughborough, the urban districts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Ashby Woulds and Shepshed, the rural district of Ashby-de-la-Zouch as constituted by the County of Leicester (Coalville Urban District) Confirmation Order 1953, and the rural district of Castle Donington.
1974-1983: The borough of Loughborough, the urban districts of Ashby de la Zouch, Ashby Woulds and Shepshed, the rural district of Ashby de la Zouch as altered by The West Midland Counties Order 1965, and the rural district of Castle Donington as altered by The East Midland Counties Order 1965.
